I do think that GGG's legs aren't what they were, he seemed to really struggle to close the gap on Canelo, who kept spinning away from that right hand.Autobarn wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 04:43 I’d be gutted if Canelo actually delivered and won decisively.
Didn’t like how, when he finally faced Golovkin, after all the stalling, he wasn’t willing to put it all on the line, throwing 4 consecutive mid-late rounds away with running. Flashy in bursts. All sizzle, no steak, the way I saw it. The old trick of making rounds close by avoiding contact. Fighting like a veteran approaching his 40s, not someone in his prime. A classic 8 round fighter.
I thought Canelo would come in heavy for the fight, to gain an advantage. Then I hear, for the biggest test of his career, he tested positive for PEDs.
Golovkin surely deserved the decision yet he plodded and only punched when Alvarez was on the ropes. It was a slightly disappointing fight. Both men need something extra in their game plan.
Golovkin has certainly faded. He’s reminding me of Sung Kil Moon, a fighter who I don’t quite regard as a great. Moon could blast people out and overwhelm opponents. But as he got older, if fights went to points, against slick boxers, he’d just do the same thing all night, plodding forward and relying on being the stronger man. Thinking of Moon’s fights with Richardson, Salazar, Bueno in particular.
Golovkin still puts his shots together well, and if you stand in front of him and trade, then it's goodnight vienna.
I'm not sure how I see this one going. I'm not sure that Canelo can do much more - unless he's willing to stand in the pocket more and try and get shots off, which doesn't seem like a tactic that is going to favour him, he could perhaps throw the jab a lot more and try and control it from the outside, but he just doesn't seem to have the stamina for that sort of tactic.
I'm going to go for a UD for GGG this time, as I think Golovkin can take a few more chances and force the fight more. He will probably miss a lot, but if he can keep Canelo under pressure I think he can boss the fight.
