has anyone seen any video of Tommy Morrison vrs Charles Hostetter ?
from October.26 1989 in Kansas City.
I think it aired on ESPN too if I remember correctly.
(Morrison began filming Rocky V at that time and I wonder if he was wearing Rocky Balboa's
Red White and Blue trunks for it).

Well, I'm not sure, if you can see the video of the fight on my link, so I can tell, that it looks like the fight was probably filmed by his managers, it most likely wasn't on TV.

Stallone had alot of boxers in mind to be his nemesis in ROCKY V including "Hurricane" Peter McNeeley--- but Tommy had that "special something" that fight fans and movie goers gravitated towards.

Apparently the character's original name was Danny Durrock. Thank Jesus they went with Tommy Gunn, lol. It's sad but the only memorable thing about the fifth Rocky film was Tommy Morrison. No offense to McNeeley--- or any other heavyweight at that time--- but it wouldn't have worked with anyone else.

Sylvester Stallone used real boxing film footage of Tommy Morrison as Tommy Gunn for a real fight November.14.1989.
that was used in a 15 second montage for ROCKY V( look for Sylvester Stallone as "Rocky Balboa" and Burt Young as "Paulie" in his corner at the end of the fight)

Btw Canady fight was rare, but had appeared about the same time "30 for 30" had. The same with John Castle bout, but it's available not full, only KO punch moment. Now only 2 fights of Tommy is still missing, those are #1 vs William Muhammad and #13 vs Aaron Brown.

I really liked Morrison as a boxer, just a shame he didnt have self control. Could have been a great boxing legend imo. Fantastic to watch.

Years ago on a E! television special the Castle bout was shown--- more or less--- in full. Just to make that note.

I read somewhere that prior to Morrison,Stallone was interested in casting Donny LaLonde
who had become the WBC Light-Heavyweight Champion in November 1987
and defended it against Sugar Ray Leonard in November 1988.

I think that's why Lalonde didn't get it in the end--- because he lost--- Morrison was undefeated and was the "great white hope" that many thought would would win the heavyweight title. So because he wasn't damaged goods, still flying high, etc he got it whereas someone like Lalonde didn't.

It must be noted that Matt Weishaar who was Morrison's last opponent died at the age of 31 in 2011. How he died I'm not sure, it's news to me--- I never knew.

It's interesting to note that Morrison's own mother swears up and down that Tommy thought he had HIV long before his diagnosis in 1996--- and it must be remarked that Morrison actually fought a guy who had HIV by the name of Ricky Nelson back in 1989.

Considering Monte ran around with boxing circles long after his retirement, and he apparently got the disease from sharing needles, could it be possible that Morrison's own HIV came from Monte or those associated with Monte because Morrison got hooked on drugs while as a fighter.

Interesting trivia, never heard of that. However, I don't think, that Tommy was infected with HIV before the mid 90s, be it in a bout vs Ricky Nelson, be it in a bed with some other girl. He was suspicious, his mother said, but why not to be? He probably realised, that he was risking, when he was having sex with another new girl day after day. He just couldn't control himself with this. Alcoholics and junkies also can acknowledge the risks, but they can't do anything with it due to an addiction. The same was there. I just think, he couldn't compete on that level with a virus, especially with the therapy of those times. Furthermore, as it was suggested in the video, which had provoked the discussion, his kids are competing professionally now and with the today's level of diagnostics and control in sports, it's probably impossible to be able to hide the virus.
