Another favorite fight Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy!
Calzaghe absolutely battered Lacy, great great performance. The crowd where in awe that night of Calzaghe's combos fantastic.
It’s the manner of the victory that made that an upset.
Lacy was certainly the favourite but it was 60/40 or closer, though there were worries about JCs hands too
They brought Lacy over thinking he was the next big thing and was quite heavily favored going in.
'They' (Shaw and the team) might have expected easy pickings from a spent force but thats not how I remember the build up or perception of the boxing establishment here, I can't really add to what I have already said, I recall the general feeling to be 'Lacy has been killing people, is JC as good as we think?'
EDIT
A quick google seems to suggest that we over here also expected Joe Calzaghe to be smashed with ease.
EDIT EDIT
Further investigation puts me back to it being highly debated and pretty even predictions.

Not exactly past (no where near, in fact) but Hopkins beating Trinidad in 2001 was a massive upset. Most boxing writers had Trinidad down as a dead cert to win. I think that in Ring magazine out of about 40 boxing writers/heads only one went for Hopkins. It was a massive surprise when Trinidad was schooled, beaten up over 11 rounds and then stopped in the final round.
Brilliant fight

Kiko martinez knocking bernard dunne out in 58 seconds, ouch
Yeah sore one! Martinez was young and up n coming at the time though, His war with Córdoba was something else!
Yeah great come back from the martinez defeat but then he had a similer defeat to poonsawat not long after. Dunne was chinney at super bantam always felt he should of stayed at feather when he came home from the states.
