I don't foresee these even happening anymore to be honest.

No real talk emerging anywhere and it would seem the initial excitement has petered out a fair bit.

Hopefully I'm wrong and maybe they are waiting to sort finer details out.

Time of Fight Confirmed

All is well however and on the final goes with a last-minute press conference announcing it a few days ago.

If you are in the UK for the fight the confirmed time of ring walks for Groves vs Smith will be at 9pm.

That works out as 1pm in the afternoon on September 28th on the West coast of the US, 4pm in the East.

Will woman be allowed to attend this or even fight on I t?

They can attend. When the WWE went over earlier this year they had women attending. Although ther was no womens fighting.

I was thinking the other day that Groves seems more popular than Froch these days.

Despite those losses, Groves has proven his character in coming back, whereas Froch is still funny about Ward. When they first fought there was that thing about ‘Groves' lack of respect’, and record-wise, I can see where Carl was coming from. It must sting to go through that many good wins and feel underappreciated, with people saying that you lost dozens of rounds against those Americans despite beating them.

But then of course Groves had to believe he could beat Froch, and so it's a bit rich of old Smoking Boots to have called him on insolence. It's always been the way that ageing fighters become wary of how much of a leveller hunger is. People they'd have beaten with relative ease on their way up become worries, because at that point there's hardly any credit for winning and a big reputation loss for losing. Maybe that's what inspired Froch in their rematch: knowing how close he'd come to seeing his career tarnished.

Obviously it was a tremendous career, but I think it's a shame he and Groves aren't on good terms these days. If mutual pride didn't get in the way they could be laughing about that arm-pulling by now. Thing is, I started out thinking of Groves as ‘that ginger tosser’, but now I've a lot of time for him. He's come back and rebuilt when it seemed like no-one'd give him much credit for it. Whereas Froch, who I liked in his younger days — back when he was a Cash-playing inventor of terrible cobra analogies, has put me off in recent years with his angry interviews.

I was similar with Calzaghe, who I went from liking to feeling that he was ducking people, and then back to liking again when he stepped up to Lacy. But there's a lot more to respect than who you've beaten.

despite years of entertaining top level fights froch kinda had a short period where he was a big star while active. wouldnt be surprised if his popularity fades significantly because he really didnt have that long in the spotlight to really stick himself on the casual mind imo. esp. with ajs rise happening around the same time

the whole 80k thing now for example is funny, because ajs already (donald) trumped it

im not sure how popular groves really is, but he at least was still probably the good guy foil to eubank and has a coming back from tough defeats story. maybe it makes people forget about the times he was a bit bratty and blamey

Froch is in a good place in retirement. I like that his defeats rankle, it's what got him to the very top. He was a brilliant competitor, one of the best to come out of the UK.

He retired on a high. Although he could have fought a few others.. he did to DeGale what Calzaghe did to him.

Froch already explained why he retired. He said what’s the point fighting a hungry upcomer and losing and then retiring.

After what happened to him against Froch, I think most of us would've thrown our toys at his age. It's pride, innit. But he seems to have matured a bit since, and he has come back as strong as he was before. It helps a ton that he's still active and Froch isn't.

If Groves keeps on winning, I figure he might go down in history somewhat level with Froch. Both have losses, and even though Froch inflicted both of Groves', it can be argued that they might've done better and worse against each other's opponents. Froch-Eubank would've been interesting for me.

It's the natural order, and it's true. Hunger's a huge leveller.

Mark Pougatch hosts as live boxing returns to ITV Box Office with coverage of the World Boxing Super Series final as super-middleweight world champion George Groves puts his WBA 'Super' title on the line against Callum Smith in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday September 28.

Number one seed George Groves successfully defended his world title against Chris Eubank Junior in the semi-final. Despite dislocating his shoulder in the final round, Groves made it through to the final bell to claim a unanimous points victory over Eubank at the Manchester Arena.

A week later in Nuremberg Callum Smith defeated Nieky Holzken on points to maintain his undefeated record and set up a showdown with Groves.

Ring girls pull out of Groves vs Smith in Saudi Arabia over 'cultural respect'

Bosses said they would not appear at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium on Friday out of "cultural respect".

SBJ Management boss Sara Beverley Jones – who organises their appearances – said: "I've had a few people asking about Groves vs Smith.

"Due to cultural respect we won't be attending this fight event in Saudi Arabia.

"Although I will be shouting at the TV at home like the rest of you."

For Groves' win over Chris Eubank Jr in February, six ring girls wore black skirts and crop tops for the Super Series semi-final.
