Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF mw title - who wins this and how ?

Has anybody bothered to watch the YouTube videos of Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Daniel Jacobs sparring each other prior to formulating their opinion of the outcome of their 27th October bout?

These guys know each other well, as they’ve sparred lots of times, which means their over-familiarity of each other’s styles could result in a real stinker of a bout!

Jacobs looks physically much bigger than Derevyanchenko and also seems to have more skill and speed of the two gym mates. However, the Ukraine appears to have a higher work-rate, is more aggressive and also works the body much more.

The two styles could cancel each other out and we may end up witnessing a cagey contest, one which I’d favour the American to emerge victorious from, via a UD in a highly-competitive matchup.

For the record, I don’t really have a proverbial “horse” in this “race”, so I won’t be bothered if Sergiy Derevyanchenko captures the vacant title or if Daniel Jacobs does, since the only thing I’d like to see is a good fight... and I'm not sure if we'll get to see one between these guys.

What videos? I can only find one and it goes for a minute or so. Are there more and where to find them?

I've seen them sparring on another YouTube video - one which I now cannot find. Admittedly, was another fairly short clip, which seemed to reinforce the fighting styles illustrated by the only available video that you're probably referring to.

I do recall there being two separate sparring videos that were fairly short, but now I can only find one of them.

Not a big deal - no need to apologise. If there’s nothing to see re sparring I’m thinking this is closer than I originally thought regardless of size. Sergiy has that headmovement and angles that the Ukrainian champs all seem to poses. The last time someone with great headmovement faced Jacobs he got Koed badly.

Derevyanchenko is a solid fighter and I highly fancy him to win this well! Ukrainian boxing is flying!

Size difference will play a role again even taking into account that Jacobs can't avoid IBF same day weigh-in this time.

Derev, who's a compact powerhouse, will have to really put the pressure on jacobs and try to close the distance & walk him down (the reach gap between them looks really huge) decisively, overwhelm the taller man, hurting him (also) to the body with a monster punch output that can't be overlooked by the home jury. I don't see him knocking jacobs out.

Jacobs on the backfoot will try to bait derev into hard counterpunching combinations (preferably to the head, punching DOWN on the much shorter guy) and then turn the tide in his favor, or really try dominate from the get go behind his much longer, powerful jab. He can do both. i guess he's confident in being able to at least drop derev few times along the way. Should that be the case, he should also deserve the decision he most probably will get anyways.

I could see a late stoppage too, hopefully it will be a clean good fight & they will spare us some shady shit this time, for once.

Jacobs 9-3. Derevyanchenko should have been pushed more quickly after dispatching Sam Soliman in 2 rounds.

Great point!! Hard to believe he will turn 33 at the end of this month. Also hard to believe he has only fought 12 times in 4 years as a pro.

Unless he defeats Jacobs in impressive fashion and his career really takes off as a pro he could end up being yet another example of an Eastern Euro fighter wasting too much time as an amateur. Even though he didnt leave the amateur ranks until July 2014, his last Olympics was in 2008 and his last World Championships was 2009. His major accomplishment in the last part of his amateur career was going 22-1 in the World Series of Boxing (his lone loss in WSB being to Argentine Brian Castano).

Nonetheless, Sergiy-Jacobs should be a close competitive fight and Derevyanchenko is such a big question mark as a pro that he could come away with an impressive win. Jacobs could benefit if he gets strong NYC crowd support so I'll take Jacobs by close, maybe disputed decision.

This fight should tell us a lot about the MW mix now that Canelo is moving to 168. Since he doesnt have troublemaking 160 I would like to see him revisit the MWs and face the winner of this fight.

Anything less than the version of Danny Jacobs that faced Gennady Golovkin loses to Sergiy Derevyanchenko, otherwise the 'Miracle Man' will score a close unanimous decision victory.

hes technically solid and a decent all rounder. seems a bit athletically basic though, slower then jacobs and lighter hitting. also a bit short

i suspect jacobs will be able to outspeed him and score from outside enough to win a decision. maybe like 9-3/8-4

Eh I meant those things should cause Jacobs problems. From what I’ve seen dev looks very decent on the inside.

Just saw some highlights of Derevyanchenko. The Fresh Prince says they have sparred 300 rounds together. That may make for a stale fight. But after seeing those highlights, I may be edging Derevyanchenko.
