It's shocking really that there are others like me who simply have become so bored stiff by Hattons 'Bum of the month' campaign that we are not even bothering to watch him live anymore!. It seems a long time ago that I was genuinely excited by Hatton and thought he was the most exciting prospect since Barry Mcguigan!.
If you look over his career he has been wrapped in cotton wool ever since his British title win when he got badly cut and almost lost... up till then he was saying that he wanted to go the traditional route etc etc but then all of a sudden he binned the Lonsdale belt and went for the crackerjack WBAWFUL title...... the rest is a sad history that has long put many of us to sleep.
My main feeling about Hatton now is that I don't even care anymore who he fights... I just don't care!.... 8)

Aah yes I remember 2001 as well.

About that Harris fight. I read an interview with Ricky the other day where he said that it didn't happen becuase Vivian wanted it to go to purse bids. Ricky said he wasn't prepared to take the usual split that the challenger usually gets. Vivian gets critisized but this is Rickys fault, the fight would have happened had they done the normal thing and went to purse bids. Its bullshit, Rickys made some damn good money already fighting lesser opponents in front of full houses yet he wasn't willing for this one time to take less than the champ! He wins the title and he's the guvnor, he can take the majority of the money and dictate to his opponents. Ricky want boxing to change its rules just for him?

Well, fights over and to be honest I wasn't all that impressed. Stewart made RH miss more than I've ever seen him miss and although Stewart was hurt at the end I believe he could have continued. One thing that really strikes me is how lax referees are with Hatton, they let him get away with an awful lot of head rubbing and shoving, which if you watch him objectively is a big part of his style. methinks 'tis why Warren's reluctant to let him fight in better officiated contests in the states.
Congrats on the win all the same but Stewart though fairly tough and certainly brave is nowhere near the teak-tough "piece of iron" (to quote Ivan Drago) that sky tried to make him out to be, after all, since when was Mitchell a devastating puncher?

p.s Am I the only one who gets annoyed by Darke raving about "great" punches that don't land?

Hatton should wear gloves on his elbows and head the way he uses them.
Stewart was just a club fighter really.... Mitchell just played with him.

Agreed. I thought it was good to an extent but Stewart didn't offer a tremendous amount back. Questions about finishing persist - he seems to get too excited, close up too much and miss with shots that he shouldn't be missing. There were times when Stewart wasn't moving and Hatton was still missing.

When he does take his time and pick his punches carefully, he does land some nice shots.

This was a mismatch, but so was Vilches and Hatton looked a load better tonight than he did then

Post fight, both fighter and promoter made all the right noises about guiding him to the position of mandatory. Now it is " put up or shut up" for them and, to be honest, for people like me

If they don't get a top name now, they should slink off in shame. If they do, I have to

a) support Hatton in the fight
b) applaud them getting the fight. however late it may have come

No Slaps, you certainly won't have to do b). Remember Witter, Corley, N'Dou ,Judah, Mayweather. If they get a big fight you're still 5-1 up, or maybe it's turned back to 4-0

btw Warren's full of shit with his "if the winner of Tszyu-Mitchell don't fight Hatton they have to vacate the title"...No Frank, no no no no no. What happens is this: you insist on the fight being in Manchester, scripted referees and all, Tszyu/Mitchell say bollocks to that, the fight goes to purse bids, you withdraw Ricky as mandatory.

The mitchell - zoo fight is on in November right?

If so, then the winner probably won't fight again til maybe March? It's October now. Thats 6 months.

I expect Hatton to fight in another mismatch before the IBF fight (if it happens).

Darke and Watt were extremely annoying in their commentary of not only that fight but also the Gomez fight. They have blinkers on sometimes.

Thought it was a decent performance and a few nice shots

I do believe that Hatton will fight for one of the major titles early next year, he has to.. . he'd lose all credibility if he doesn't.

Dire mismatch. Saw nothing from Hatton that I didn't know he could do. Stewart was worse than I expected him to be even though I predicted it would end in round 6. Never expected him to be that overwhelmed, he didn't look determined at all to put any sort of hurt on Hatton. He was brave, but overall it was a very disappointing performance from him.

Pointless comparing the Mitchell - Stewart fight with tonight's. Mitchell blew away Vilches, Hatton struggled. Pointless comparing any of them as meaningful. At the end of the day they were all just keep busy fights for Hatton and Mitchell. Look at it this way, in positives and negatives: Hatton - Stewart was a + and Mitchell - Vilches was a +, two positives make a negative (-). Hatton - Vilches was a -, as was Mitchell - Stewart, two negatives make a positive (+). Add the sum of these two sets of matches together and it produces a negative integer: + plus - = -. Using my half-forgotten knowledge of secondary school physics I have proven these two matches are the equivalent of Ricky and Sharmba hopping on a roundabout and going round four full 360's while awaiting their respective shot on the death slide.

The death slide being a fight with king kostya. :P

Can anyone confirm that Hatton's contract is up in December? That's what i am told.

Warren seems to have a short memory!!!!!! Hatton was the WBO mandatory ages ago and could have fought Julio or Corley!



Hatton looked exactly the same to me, same style, same punches, same barging with the head.........same same same and tailor made for someone like Zoo. Hatton always gets hit with the right hand, I'm telling ya though he wont be getting up from a Zoo right hand.

I thought Hatton looked better last night than he did in his last two fights, although he did rush in and crowd his own work too much as others have mentioned. I was a little disapointed in Stewart, although you could argue that the early body shots just took his desire away, and there was some good shots landed to be fair.

Hatton fought in somewhat of a rushed manner, I just assume that was down to fustration and anger over the way his career has stagnated. (trying to be positive here)

As for the future, in the past we have had such fights as-

Stacey V Napoles
McGuigan V Pedroza
Bruno V Witherspoon
McDonnald V Nelson
Honeyghan V Curry etc etc etc

So if the next fight is not -

Hatton V Tszyu or Mitchell or Gatti or Mayweather I'm NOT interested.
