VERY friendly weigh-in. No animosity whatsoever. Usyk directed kind words to local fans. Gassiev said that Sasha and himself will do their best to show exciting boxing.

Naaah where's the fun in that? They should curse each other's mothers, hurl a table across the room, maybe even bite a lump out of the other for good measure.

Conducting yourself like a sportsman and a gentleman is dead boring.

Yes that's irony in case anyone was unsure. As fun as trash talk can be, I do prefer my sporting heroes modest and chivalrous especially if it's genuine.

It's entirely reasonable for the majority of fight fans to support and favour a victory for Usyk, but I will side with Gassiev... not because I'm certain he'll win, but because he seems to be a nice humble guy... and whenever I don't have a proverbial "horse" in any race, I tend to show my support to the underdog.

im a bit surprised at how close the betting odds are, its pretty much pick em. i wouldve expected wider for usyk, maybe ppl are thinking home advantage will be big for gas.

i was actually thinking the same thing about hometown advantage and was looking to place a bet on gassiev, but i was expecting much better returns for bets on him to win. expected him to be more of a betting dog

..fair enough, my approach is slightly different though: whenever I don't have a proverbial "horse" in any race, I tend to show my support to the boxer who is NOT fighting in his own backyard...it's gonna be Usyk this time..

I remember watching Dorticos fight against Gassiev, and how predictable Dorticos was. He really played directly into Gassievs hands, and that was still a competitive fight until the end. The agility, intelligence, feet, and punch selection of Usyk is a much bigger challenge. That's why he's favored, and why he'll probably win. Gassiev will need a stoppage if he gets behind on points right off the bat because he's not catching up if Usyk gets in a good rhythm.... barring bad scoring of course. This is a great fight, and either guy winning is good to me. So few fights are like that.

Something doesn't seem quite right with Usyk and I can't put my finger on it. Seems to be training himself. Is he lacking motivation and belief? Suppose we'll find out tonight. I'm a massive fan of both guys but have more of a soft spot for Usyk. That being said, I'm slightly leaning towards Gassiev. Can't wait!

Why do you think that Usyk would lack motivation for the biggest bout of his career?

I'm also picking Gassiev. I think Usyk is a wee bit overrated by many. We'll see.

Dunno tbh. Just something doesn't seem right. He's naturally a pretty laid back guy so maybe I'm reading it wrong? The training situation seems strange. No trainer = alarm bells IMO...

Most books have this fight listed as dead even pick 'em.

It opened a few months back with Usyk nearly a 1-3 favorite. A lot of Gassiev believers, myself included.

I don't know if the bout's location fully explains the support for Gassiev.
