As odd as this fight seems at first, it actually makes a fair bit of sense.

Canelo can use the move to SMW to avoid another rematch with GGG, having an oficial win over him means he does not need the rematch.

Rocky will be paid very well and get to fight at MSG. There will still be domestic bouts waiting for him once he has sold his belt to Canelo.

Easy win for canelo. Fielding might as well lose to the best

Honestly I think the motivation for Canelo to move up from a division that only a couple of fights ago was too big for him is to escape that God awful 'special' WBC belt

He’ll drop back down. WBC will still let him have his voluntary. Likely at Cinci de Mayo.

Theres NO WAY would GGG have a third fight in Vegas , so it takes the edge away for Canelo , 160 is littered with lots who would give him a good go ,, So it makes sence , go up give Feilding a hiding take his belt , defend it against Eubank , , and the likes ,, then maybee go back down and pick and choose, but staying where he is leads to only ONE easy defence , then its back too game on , This way he gets 3 maybee 4 easy fights , and lets face it , when it comes to Canelo , people buy his fights regardless ,,, will say though , it was definetly out from left field , did'nt see this one coming , but not shocked ,

A good option for Canelo. An easy belt in another cathegory. A fight, that is kinda supposed to help him keep fit during the rest after hard battles, before future big fights.

You’re right. Khan’s basic purse was around $3m but increased to around $12m due to ppv sales. That fight did 600k buys.

This will do less obviously. Maybe more around $2m guaranteed. After profits no more than $5m..

Can’t blame Fielding for taking the fight - it’s a dangerous game and he’s setting his family up for life - topping the bill at MSG - and sticking likely 1-2m in the bank.
