U.K. wise I’d say.... Froch vs. Bute and Calzaghe vs. Lacy. Both great performances.
The one fight that randomly I used to watch every 6 months or so was Winky Wright against Felix Trinidad. Amazing defence from Wright and use of the jab.

In fact, Buster Douglas was a tough, game, determined, tall, rangy and athletic mofo who entered the ring with excellent cardio-vascular conditioning and a spirit to match it! Buster came to win
It's a brilliant performance to watch!
One of my favourites is Michael Watson befuddling and stopping that raging bull, Nigel Benn - at a little past the halfway mark! Not many fighters to open up Benn like a tin of pineapple chunks the way Watson did

Buster was spurred on by the sad death of his mother,he vowed to win in her memory,still the biggest upset in boxing history for me

Marquez vs Juan Diaz 1 was my favorite. It was not a perfect fight for Marquez. He was tagged all night. But Diaz will not lose to any boxer that night not named Juan Manuel Marquez.

Floyd weighed-in half a stone lighter at 169 — a middleweight now! — and finished it with the most inspiring combination I've seen. Proper living-room Rocky material.

Buster Douglas was a genuine world class top 10 fighter at the time of the Tyson fight. He was handily (IMO) beating Tony Tucker until a very iffy stoppage (although I'm not saying Tucker wouldn't have got to him before the 12th round). How he was such a huge underdog given the shit Tyson was going through I am not sure.
I mentioned this a few times, but as 10 year old I tipped Douglas to do Tyson.

Mine has to be Cassius Clay against Sonny Liston--his skill was otherworldly that night. Such a pleasing, hypnotic style.

Ah yeah, the days of the 15 rounders - yeah no doubt Tucker would have got to him. Yes, he was looking disheartened, but I still think the ref jumped in too soon. Douglas was on the ropes but it was hardly Morrison vs Mercer. Not saying that the ref robbed Douglas of a win, but it was a bit Froch vs Groves esque - just too soon, Douglas was in a position to defend himself. He didn't really wobble, but yes there was a lot of time left in the round.
On a side note, I re-watched Taylor vs Chavez 1 the other day.... it is amazing how your view changes when watching fights years after. On reflection, that was a terrible stoppage. I always used to think it was fine. Chavez would right in the neutral corner, there is no way he would have landed another punch in the 2 seconds.

Oh I see what you mean--I do think Douglas was done but yes perhaps the stoppage seems a punch or three early by the standards of the day. Fast forward to the main event and watch the Tyson/Pinklon Thomas stoppage--Padilla allows them to absolutely settle the matter!

I also thought Froch v Bute was about as impressive as it gets. Bute was the Number 1 at the time and had avoided the super 6 then Froch showed him his level.

Two involving Carl Froch; one for him and one against.
His performance against Bute was punch perfect and his career was on the line that night. Bute didn't know what hit him.
Similarly, George Groves' performance in the first Froch fight was phenomenal. Yes, Carl overlooked him but Groves boxed his head off for 6 rounds and it was a real coming of age night for him. I still believe that Adam Booth would have kept him disciplined enough after 6 rounds to win that fight, but as it turned out it was a fantastic comeback win from Froch, albeit an early stoppage (Froch would have stopped him after regsrdless IMO).
