Biggest in what respect? What metric are you going to use to measure "big"?

Some of the pre-war White City fights had bigger attendances than some of the fights used recently with the breathless tag "biggest ever".

(almost all) the belts - check.
Lineal "people's champ" vs Unified Champ and No1 - check.
At heavyweight !!

Of course it is - It's the biggest fight since Ali vs Frazier 1.
It's one of the biggest HW fights in history - easily the biggest in the UK. :box:

I disagree. I'm a British fight fan and have been for a few years but the guys like Frazier and Ali.... they took hard competitive fights against talented operators, regularly - in a more competitive era. There's no comparison whatsoever to be made between those guys, Joshua and a man that ballooned up 10 stone and came back against, essentially, a gawky banger.

Look at Frazier and Ali. Did these guys have all that many utter stiffs on their records as their modern day counterparts?
I take your points - 70s was better GGG vs Canelo was better. With your criteria this won't even be the best fight this year - and in quality you're probably right.
But I still see it as historic for the sport of (especially HW) boxing and the biggest in Britain ever.
This is a special fight

Yeah this basically...

No doubt there was megafight in 1857 or whatever that had the entire population of London and the North camped on a hill in the midlands to watch something or other.
Would defo love a Boxing Time Machine :box:

Well obviously any time-machine :yay:

But even one that only worked for boxing events would still be pretty awesome.

I guess, yes. It will make another attendance record. It will be hyped as f@#$ and all the hype will most likely be justified with the fight itself.

I could see Fury sufficiently wind up AJ to the point his PR trained mask slips somewhat (humble etc)

:TU:
It does have the possibility of being that big, but not yet. Fury needs to beat Wilder and then it could be.

Joshua v Fury would the biggest since Joshua v Klitschko, it would get more media coverage. Really hope it happens and the promoters can come to agreement somehow but I doubt it will happen soon despite the fighters wishes.

deadpan wrote: 04 Dec 2018, 18:47 AJ v Fury feels bigger AJ v Wilder. Deontay saw his stock fall and Furys rise in abundance when Tyson got up in the 12th. He is now the man who cant be stopped (though he probably can be). Plus Fury's recent story and conduct after the final bell makes him a lot more marketable. And his inevitable drubbing of Joshua in the pressers would generate massive publicity.

Not that it matters much if you got clobbered off either, but.......who is considered to hit harder, Wilder or AJ?

I thought Wilder was considered as the hardest one-puncher out there (notwithstanding the many, many contenders on his record for whom the word 'tomato can' might be considered a promotion)...but as you say, the Bronze Bomber's stock fell slightly when the Morcambe man pulled off his Lazarus impression.....

So who hits harder, Wilder or AJ? :maybe:
One punch power it’s probably Wilder. Joshua hits you more often though and has more variation. Wilder put Fury down with a brace of shots. Joshua will be unloading everything if he tags Fury at any point. He also has the advantage of strength and physicality over Fury so no walking him back etc

Fury is a very hard nights work for Joshua without doubt but let’s not pretend it doesn’t work the other way. I think Joshua is considerably better than Wilder and Wilder gave Fury hell.

People chatting about Fury taking Joshua to school are off their head imo.
I agree. Fury will never survive if Joshua hurts him it'll be goodnight Vienna. Joshua is better technically than wilder and that will be the decisive factor.

Biggest British fight ever after the pressers

I think Wilder is harder work for Fury as he is more unpredictable / raw - Joshua is quite predictable IMO but more durable than Wilder

Fury will be 30% sharper / fitter next time for either

No slow moving man, muscle bound, even if he does box better than one handed Wilder... Is catching Fury... And yes it would be bigger than Lewis/Bruno, therefore making it the biggest all-british contest of all-time.

Biggest grossing by a country mile for sure. Ive just popped a twitter poll up, have a look. I'd like to see how people see Fury's value now he has gained a lot of fans.

its up there.

as a brit v brit matchup it will be close to matching Bruno v Lewis.....but not quite given that Bruno was far more firmly established as a star by then.

in my lifetime nothing tops the excitement and anticipation of Bruno v Tyson 1

Fury was on 900k Twitter follows in Aug and was on that for a while. During the Wilder build up until after the fight, he finally his the 1 Million mark.

In the UK, I think only Haye (now retired), AJ and Khan have more followers. No other active boxer comes close I think. Despite his 2 Haye fights, Bellew couldn’t get past 600k followers.

Even Wilder gained a number of followers.

Everything is magnified these days so in that sense it would be huge. In real terms, Eubank-Benn II was bigger and I’d say that, as things stand, Lewis against Bruno was. AJ and Fury are popular, Bruno was loved.

I'll have to vote for Richard "The Secret" Williams on this one.

The top darts and snooker promoters will soon be trying to flog Joshua-Whyte2 The Beef Rematch as the biggest ever.
