not that i expect huge changes but experience still makes a difference
I didn't have to think very much at all. Slow Joe is about all he's gonna be. No better than he is now, and that's not great. He's not the type of fighter who will develop any new skills. He will always be a slow pondering stalker and nothing more. Let's see what happens when he steps up the competition.

I was thinking about all the wilder hating posts about his inability to learn new skills or change his approach (which I agree to a great extent). Then I read Slow Joe Joyce will be such a great fighter as he develops, but he's 33 and not the style that develops much. 33 and plodder/stalker. That's all.

tbh the moaning about wilder hates a bit tedious now too, i dont see him changing his style and im not hating

joyce has very little pro experience and experience does make a difference even if a guys slow or 33, he and wilder are not the same situation just because of the same age

Of course experience matters, but not as much for his type of fighter. He'll get smarter (maybe) but not much better. Wilder won't be smarter and I'm not sure any better ever, either. His excuses really turned me off. I merely don't see much of a future for Joyce, whom I think Ortiz will tear through like tissue paper.

That’s just silly because experience IS massive.
Just timing 12 rounders on its own..
Loma would paste Salido now if he go back in time . CEJ woulda beaten BJS if it wasn’t his first 12 rounder etc. etc.

...massive...Not in Slow Joe's case. If he was 25, then I'd agree.

I think Ortiz has had his late summer. Joyce i think would bowl him over in a fire fight.

Nope.
I'm real curious if he can.
If he can he is a serious threat to the division.
But I'm not sold yet.
I do think he's a good heavyweight but not sure about elite just yet
He's 33 y/o. I keep seeing posts all over the place that Wilder at 33 won't get any better (which he won't)? How is it that Slow Joe Joyce can?

Would love to see this. Joyce is growing on me.

He's fit and powerful and will give most heavyweights all they can handle.

Fury would school him, against the rest with his style I'd give him a shot

I think the development is for the pro game not necessarily his boxing technical ability.
With good nutrition and the correct training techniques, you can improve fast twitch fibres. For sure that is what he needs right now.

Big Joe Joyce in da house!

He looks God awful but he’s what you’d call awkwardly efffective. He’s an amazing athlete too. Never seen someone so huge so back flips!

He needs rounds but wouldn’t surprise if he did the biznez against 60 year old Luis “Hey you pitch” Ortiz.

Would like to see him go for British ‘ Euro first. Some good fights to be made there against the likes of Dubois, Gorman, Fury, Kabayel & even Old Dmitrenko.

He is a talented athlete isn't he! It actually confuses me as to why he's so slow since he's such a good athlete. Looks pretty robotic when fighting :maybe:

Joyce would have the good Ol ‘punchers chance’. But I’d see him getting stopped in 4 rds If it were to happen in the next year. Joyce throws too many punches and the top level fighters will pick him off or he’ll get countered against the skilled big punchers.

I’ll add he is fun to watch though!!

The difference is that I think we've seen what Wilder has to offer against top opposition now but we haven't with Joyce. Neither might get all that much better than they are but Joyce hasn't fought anybody top 10-15 yet. Maybe he'll be a let down, maybe he'll surprise a few people.

Ortiz is a good make or break fight considering his limited window.

I expect Joyce will fight someone sh1t next again and say they are all avoiding him. Ortiz will fight a final eliminator against someone proven and ranked and be on the list of people avoiding Joyce.

When/if Joyce makes some real noise, he won't be avoided. Right now a fight with him by a ranked HW doesn't really mean anything except risk, IMHO.

I can't really predict this fight, not knowing if Joyce has a good chin or not.

If Joyce has a good chin, and can take a good, hard, clean shot to the jaw or temple, then Joyce by decision or TKO late.

If we discover Joyce has a suspect chin, then Ortiz by TKO late.

Not knowing critical details about the true "make-up" of Joyce, hinders any real possibility of predicting a credible outcome.

If he had some sort of defensive mechanism, like a guard or good head movement, then I’d give him a good chance of getting a win over Ortiz. But I’d be surprised if he could handle the early heat of Ortiz, who is superior. I’d like to see this fight by the end of 2019 because it’s a great firefight that shouldn’t go the distance.

Joyce’s manager has said there is a 95% chance this fight happens in 2019.. he then said it was 96% chance.
