Ruiz is credited with a knockdown against him right?

Yeah I can't think of him getting dropped other than that.

Michael Moorer was dropped for numerous amount of times. At least by Cooper, Foreman, Tua, a lot of times by Holyfield. Someone, count them all.

So that's at least 9 knockdowns in 3 fights, but as far as I know those were the only fights he was dropped in.
No, he was dropped in one of his first fights, possibly his debut.
Really? I've always thought, he was knocked down only by Bonavena and Foreman. Who else dropped him?
Mike Brice or Bruce. Pretty sure that's the guy.

Cooney, Shavers, Twice by Foreman...probably more I'm forgetting, but that'd be 4.

Shannon Briggs has been dropped quite a few times right?

Darroll Wilson, Jameel McCline, Lennox Lewis twice, I don't remember if Vitali dropped him or not, I know he beat the sh*t out of him

There's gotta be other times Briggs was dropped I didn't list.

Wlad was dropped quite a few times. 3 times by Sam Peter, 4 times by Corrie Sanders, once by Davarryl Williamson, once by Lamon Brewster, I've never seen the Ross Purrity fight, but I'd assume he dropped him at least once there huh? Dropped twice by AJ

So that's 12 by my count over 6 fights for Wlad

I'm just going off the top of my head here so anybody that can add to my lists with actual facts and figures feel free to do so.
There are no other official KDs against Lewis, although Akinwande did deck him, but it was not called.

Quite remarkable in itself as all I remember about that fight was Akinwande hugging Lewis like Lennox was his new girlfriend.

It must have been the only punch he threw all fight.

True. Boxrec states: "Frazier was knocked down in the 1st round by a right hand. Bruce was down four times before the bout was stopped. Source: Philadelphia Daily News"

Not surprising given how offensive-minded Frazier was, probably walked into one and was up in a second.

If it was a clear KD from a punch landed, I say we should count it. Akinwande obviously knocked Lewis down.

On a similar note, Puritty had one KD against Klitschko not counted by the ref.

_ Round 17 - Sullivan succeeded in getting a little left on Corbett's face. With this exception there was only fibbing during the round.

Anyone have any idea what "fibbing" might mean?
In proper English (meaning British) it's a polite, now somewhat archaic term for lying. So I'm guessing the rest of the round comprised feinting, threatening but not following through, etc.

Thanks -- I understood the word fib but never heard it used as a replacement for feint, but why not, it works.

Where the hell is Woodville and what do they mean "taken from the Sydney Referee" ?

The Sydney Referee was an Australian sporting weekly, primarily concerned with boxing. I have a few copies from the 1920s. Extremely good for fight reports

Miles Templeton
OK -- Thanks for the info; we can consider it a good source. With it possibly being a low blow explains why we are finding inconsistent info regarding the 17th round KD.

Yea, there is what looks to be a second flash KD before the big one, but I am not sure if it got recorded. (Or maybe it is the first KD that did not get recorded; that one was virtually from the first punch.) We always hear that the fight had 11 KDs with Firpo going down 9 times, thus leaving Dempsey with 2. So I am not sure if the first or second one got ruled a slip or not. I need to watch the damn fight yet again.

Two things:

Are we going to count Ken Norton or are we going lineal? I don't think Norton is in the line up but I may be mistaken.

When we get to Ali we are going to have an argument over Wepner; if we call it a KD Ali may come back from the grave, step on our foot and push us to the side walk like he did Wepner years later.

Marshall made Liston laugh and then cracked him, breaking Liston's jaw. I was unaware that Marshall dropped Sonny.

According to the following article, Liston was dropped by Marshall in the rematch, but not in the loss.

Boy if all you ever knew about Liston came from that SI article you would have to conclude that Liston was nothing more than a 'ham and egger.' -- That writer did not care much for Sonny and amazingly he wrote it before the first Clay fight. Do you know who wrote it. I didn't see any author noted.

The first time that Joe Louis was knocked down (as a professional) was in his 25th pro fight in the first fight with Max Schmeling by a right hand (fourth round).(June 1936)
The first time that Joe Frazier was knocked down as a professional was in his second pro fight (September 1965)
Mike Bruce knocked him down in the second round, but Frazier knocked him out in the third.
The first time that Larry Holmes was knocked down as a professional was in his 7th pro fight (November 1973)
knocked down in the first round against Keven Isaac ( a right hand to Holmes's temple) Holmes knocked out Isaac in the third round.

OK, this is what I got so far:

Corbett - Sullivan, Fitzsimmons, Sharkey, Jeffries I, Jeffries II (2x). total of being knocked down 5 times in 6 fights.
Fitzsimmons - Corbett, Hall, Choynski, Jeffries I (4x) Jeffries II, Johnson, Lang. 10 times in 7 fights.
Jeffries - Johnson (3x) 3 times in 1 fight.
Hart - Hanarahan, Carter I, Carter II, Root I, Root II, OBrien, Ferguson, Willie (3x) Ross, Morris (3x). 14 times in 9 fights
Burns - Sholtreau, Schreck, McCune, Johnson, Pelkey, Beckett (2x). 7 times in 6 fights

Johnson - Choynski, Ketchel, Willard, Lawson, Wright. 5 times in 5 fights
Willard - Dempsey 7x, Firpo. 8 times in 2 fights
Dempsey - Flynn, Firpo 2x, Tunney II. 4 times in 3 fights
Tunney - Demspey II. 1 time in 1 fight
Schmeling - Gains, Daniels, Baer, Louis II 3x. 6 times in 4 fights

If some could check Youtube, Boxrec or another source for the following:
Willard-Firpo, I seem to remember Willard going down more than once. Believe it's still on Youtube.
There are wildly different accounts of Dempsey-Flynn I. Did Dempsey just go down once? Someone mentioned that maybe he got decked by Gunboat Smith which seems possible.
As Duran 1970 and AlPerno alluded to, was there 2 or 3 knockdowns for the Firpo fight; middle one may have been officially ruled a slip as Dempsey fell forward on his knees and popped right back up. Anyone know if officially what it was ruled?

Got to believe Schmeling was decked more that what I have listed; Did he only go down once against Gains and Daniels? Thought he went down more than once against Baer but wasn't sure. Believe most of the fight is still on Youtube of someone could check that.

Any other knockdowns early in there career for any of these guys that have not been mentioned?

As for reviewing knockdowns that weren't called; it it's obvious I will count it. Would have to see it on film though.
