I'm sure Arum will have Top Rank's substantial crew of lawyers working OVERTIME to keep Stevenson out of the slammer. Wouldnt surprise me if Arum gets him off with probation on some technicality, but based on the video he clearly deserves time behind bars.

It may not be enough as the punkass was charged with battery this past July. So it's not his first brush with the law and a similar incident.

A couple years ago, Victor Ortiz and his brother beat the crap out of a guy at a concert and were charged with assault.
Naturally it was eventually pleaded down and Ortiz got a slap on the wrist with no jail time.
So you can never predict how our justice system will work.
Of course Ortiz is supposedly in hot water again on a rape charge.
But that case doesn't seem to be going anywhere either.
By time all is said and did and done, Stevenson probably won't have too much to worry about.

I beg to differ. With the video and previous battery charge, he's in hot shvt.

The problem with these videos is when it starts all you see is mayhem from both sides and you really have no clue as to what precipitated all the nonsense.
Stevenson will claim one thing. The other parties will claim another.
It's a bunch of guys and women, probably all intoxicated, mouthing off back and forth and eventually chaos predictably erupts.
It's the kind of stuff that the D.A.'s office will be eager to eventually plea bargain, rather than face off with a staff of some savvy TR attorneys.

Pretty bone head move by Shakur, I am sure he will get past this incident, take a more mature look at things in the future...I think Shakur is the one who beats Loma as Shakur gets more savvy and Loma fades in a couple years.

Is Stevenson even allowed to fight this weekend?
Any updates on his attack?

Stevenson has been charged with felony battery and is in serious trouble now.
Stevenson, meanwhile, landed a series of right and left-handed blows to the other man, seen wearing a white hooded shirt, who is pummeled while on the ground, then kicked by Grayton before Stevenson pulls his friend out of the garage.
Stevenson and Grayton left the premises, but a witness told police that the men were staying nearby at the Shore Club just around the corner.
Investigators reviewed the video, came to the Shore Club, found the men in the lobby and arrested them.

Are these new charges in relation to the video being leaked? From articles I've read the video is from last year and he was charged already with misdemeaner battery.
So I guess legally this incident is dealt with? Just that the footage has come to light, might put some folks off Stevenson.

As far as I can determine, this video is of the same incident that resulted in Stevenson's arrest in Miami last summer.
It's not new stuff. Not a new crime.
He was booked on misdemeanor battery along with the other fighter, David Grayton.
A misdemeanor charge isn't likely to bring any significant lockup time. If Stevenson has no priors, it's unlikely that he'll spend any time behind bars. There's also a felony battery charge being pursued, but I bet it gets dropped in a plea bargain.

That wasn't my understanding, but I'll take your word for it as I haven't looked too deeply into it. He should go to jail regardless of first offense or not, based on the evidence. Coward.

It appears that security camera video from parking garage was just recently made public.
But it is from that melee that occurred in July of last year.

If beating the hell out of a woman is a misdemeanor the laws arent strict enough. Grayton was beating the hell out of that chick and Shakur hit her a couple times too, even if inadvertently. This makes the Kareem Hunt incident look like nothing.

There are no stricter laws (at least in the U.S.) for assaulting women.
They are not considered a protected species that deserves special consideration when it's time to sentence perps.
In America that protection is only reserved for certain religious groups, races and gays.
Whacking a woman in a parking lot won't get anyone anymore jail time than if they did the same to a man.
And I'm certain that Stevenson and Grayton will argue that were defending themselves and not the instigators.

Ah yes "defending themselves". 2 pro fighters with weapons for fists just acting in self-defense from a chick and some dude who may or may not have slurred them. Right.

I'm just telling you what Stevenson and his buddy are going to say in court.
It's impossible to make heads or tails out of who started what from the video.
If they claim self-defense, it's irrelevant whether or not they're boxers. They are still allowed to defend themselves.
Let our wonderful system of jurisprudence determine whether or not the boxers were in the right for fighting back or whether they instigated the fracas.

Im sooo hoping for an upset here
Roach: Preparing For Shakur Stevenson Was Easy, Expect Upset!
By Victor Salazar
New York - Although he's still at the young age of 24, and with one loss on his record, Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz (24-1, 16 KO’S) could be fighting for his chance to prove that he belongs.
The Puerto Rican super featherweight was thought to be on the path of a world title. But his road took big bump when he was soundly defeated by Masayuki Ito.
That's when he decided to change his routine and linked up with one of the best trainers in the sport, Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach.
christopher-diaz (3)_9
This Saturday he takes on highly touted prospect Shakur Stevenson (10-0, 6 KO’s) from Newark, New Jersey - as part of the undercard to the Crawford-Khan ESPN pay-per-view inside Madison Square Garden.
Most people are favoring the prospect over Diaz even though he’s only lost once and has far more experience.
Roach feels Diaz should be the favorite in this fight.
“It’s a great fight,” Roach told BS.com. “I talked to my fighter. This guy has 10 pro fights. If we can’t beat him then we don’t belong here. [Diaz is] 100 percent behind me on that. We had a great camp. He’s at weight already. I think it will be a big upset. But I don’t think it is an upset, I think we should win.”
However if he can’t beat the highly touted prospect, Roach feels that Diaz would need to reassess his career even though it would only be his second career defeat.
“Listen he’s got one loss,” Roach explained. “But that was before me. But this is the big stage. It it possible this is his last fight at the big stage? Possibly. He has that one loss. There’s no shame in having that kind of record but on this big stage.. we’re fighting a guy with 10 fights. If we can’ beat this guy we don’t belong here. This possibly could be his last fight if he loses.”
But Roach feels confident he has the right game plan for Stevenson
“I think Shakur’s ok. He needs a lot of room for his punches. So my strategy for him was pretty easy," Roach.

I've got Stevenson by clearcut decision.
As you might expect, ESPN has a very favorable article on how tough Diaz will be as a test for Shakur:

Roach is already talking about Diaz retiring if he loses.
That really doesn't sound like optimism.
Last I checked, Stevenson was a 16-1 favorite.

Olympic silver medal winner Shakur Stevenson (11-0, 6 KOs) got the biggest win of his career when he dominated Christopher Diaz (24-2, 16 KOs) over ten rounds. The scores were 100-90, 99-91, 98-92.
Stevenson was sharper in the first round, with more accurate punches. Diaz began to step things up the second, by getting close and unloading with punches. Stevenson was countering back with crisp punches that were landing.
Stevenson was landing sharp punches in the third, measuring and connecting on Diaz to the head and body. Diaz was doing better in the fourth and fifth, by staying close and landing punches. But he was still being outworked add outlanded.
Diaz had no answers as the fight played out. Diaz made attempts to bait Stevenson to trade in the tenth and final round, but Stevenson played it smart
