even if they had the same promoter i really doubt theyd be matched vs each other and have ones stock drop when they both can be promoted as great prospects . .....a guy like pedraza is much more expendable

Obviously, that's why I mentioned it. Might be the two brightest prospects in the sport.

ESPN had promised getting into the PPV business, but for whatever reason (undoubtedly financial) the network never went any further with the idea until now.

A strong undercard is a necessity because frankly, Crawford-Khan by itself isn't going to attract too many buyers.
Glad to see ESPN getting back to doing PPVs. I forgot Margarito-Cintron I was a PPV on ESPN2 so I went to YouTube to jog my memory and when I saw the Flamingo Hotel in the background of the action it reminded me it that card was also one of the last major fight cards to be held outdoors in Vegas.

Once MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay indoor arenas became the go-to venues for Vegas mega-fights, Caesars Palace was gradually phased out. Dont think they have had a Caesars Palace fight card in over a decade!!

A Week or 2 ago Devin Haney was in a twitter/Instagram/social media with Ryan Garcia, Then Garcia called out Tank and Mayweather said Garcia could have the tank fight if he beat his fighter/prospect nicknamed Rollie who is 7-0, Now Haney VS Lopez is being rumored, seems like the young fighters play the fans with rumors of good fights, but when it comes time to sign it is usually a disappointment, The Young fighters have REAL TALENT, but they seem more talk when it comes to getting in the ring, Garcia gets rumored against EVERYBODY, one rumor was PBC signed Young Mexican Star Eduardo Hernandez and if Garcia won his fight on March 30th Ryan Garcia would fight Eduardo Hernandez on the Canelo VS Jacobs card, I hope so, but my guess is they will build both of them up for 3-4 years with safe fights, before they will put them in fights there is a reasonable to good chance they will lose, in the meantime they will start rumors of fighting big names by calling them out, but watch none of them mentioned (EXCEPT TANK who is already established) to take a dangerous fight, they might fight a big name who has looked shot for 2 or 3 fights. Thomas Hearns was 22 and Ray Leonard was 25 when they first fought, but that is THE EXCEPTION, Very Rare to see top prospects 25 and under fighting each other, or even having a high risk fight.

That Said, I Hope I am Wrong, but even if the fighters want to, will the Managers/Promoters be willing to give them those fights? Recent History says NO WAY.

well if lopez really does have pedraza next hard to get mad at him and his matchmaking, thats a really strong step vs a guy who just had a belt and was ranked top 5-6 a lot of places. lopez would stop him imo

the prospects wont be matched against each other but tbf, i dont think lopez or haney or garcia have been matched soft lately. i think lopez , haney, and also stevenson are a fair bit betyer then garcia btw, but with guys this young things can change a lot

Hearns and Leonard were young when they first fought but they were both already world champs when they fought their first match in 1981. It was a world title unification bout and I would expect these hot young prospects like Haney, Lopez, Garcia & Hernandez to do the same thing. Wait until they have world titles and it gives their matchup more impact (and makes them far more money)!! :TU:

Now that his slot on a potential Wilder/Fury card isn't happening I'm hearing rumors that Haney is DAZN/Hearn bound.

If that's true, good for Haney. Someone as talented and promising as Devin should go for the best deal available!! Not only in terms of money but also in staying busy on high-profile shows with good media exposure.

Edis Tatli?

Arum loses all credibility if a Scandinavian bottom-feeder like Tatli is the best he can do!!

It's not the best Arum can do.

But right now it's the best that he feels comfortable with.

Tatli isn't a true world beater but he'll show whether or not Lopez is ready for the big lightweight game.

A valuable measuring stick.

Beg to differ amigo. A "valuable measuring stick" is someone who has fought other world-class prospects or world-class fighters to help us MEASURE a fighter's abilities.

MASON MENARD was a good measuring stick because he lasted 9 rounds with Devin Haney and 7 rounds with Raymond Beltran. So when Lopez demolished Menard in ONE ROUND it showed us how impressive Teo's punching power is to be able to take him out with one punch, after Mason had lasted much longer with Haney and Beltran.

Who exactly has Edis Tatli fought in his career that we can possibly use as a comparison for Lopez to help us GAUGE his abilities?

http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/424533

This topic thread began with a quote from Bob Arum:
Onekrazyrican wrote: 22 Feb 2019, 12:03 This is what he told Greg Leon at Boxingtalk. Any ideas of who might it be?

GL: Does Teofimo Lopez have an opponent yet?

BA: "Yes."

GL: Who?

BA: "I can't tell you. They're going to send out a release and they'll all f**king jump on me if I tell you right now. But I can tell you it's going to be a very, very big step up. It'll definitely be somebody in the top ten and maybe closer to the top."
Edis Tatli is NOT a top 10 fighter and is NOT even a STEP UP from previous Lopez opponent Mason Menard. Just another BOB ARUM LIE!!

tatlis defo better then menard and despite you calling him a bottom feeder he actually has much better wins then menard, i question how much youve actually seen tatli fight. eudy bernardos a total can btw in case you were browsing menards record and were like 'wow he ko2 a 21-0 guy!'

also being absolutely ktfo by beltran and beaten down by haney , you can kinda argue that menard had been softened up before facing lopez. not that i dont think lopez is a legit puncher, but him simply having fought those guys before is a bit limited as a stick when he had those miles on before lope. menards a fighter who should retire.

wba title holder richar abril was a decent fighter btw, clearly deserved a win over rios and beat then unbeaten shraif bogere, whod already beaten the beltran you mentioned. tatli fought abril and won some rounds,. there, measure his stick next to teos :oo

ya its a let down if you took what arum said as true, but tbh look at it on its own and i still think its not a bad fight for a 12 something fight young guy. i think tatlis defo better then menard and a bit better then mag. and its a different style, one more elusive. do this and then lets see a clear step up next, and to me that would be fine.

btw, is terry flanagans a better puncher then lopez? of course not, but he destroyed magdaleno in 2 before lopez got to him :yay:

I'm not saying Menard is better than Tatli. When Senor Pepino said Tatli is a "valuable measuring stick" I disputed that because he's had all but one of his fights in Finland, never boxed outside Europe and his only quality opponent from this side of the Atlantic was Abril, nearly 5 years ago.

Devin Haney is indisputably right up there with Lopez as one of the best young global prospects in the entire world. Just 7 months before Teo fought him, Menard took 9 rounds of Haney's best shots without ever being seriously hurt. The only reason they stopped the Haney fight is that Mason had NO chance to win because he lost ALL 9 rounds. The phenomenal way that Teo destroyed Menard in less than a minute made Menard a valuable measuring stick/yardstick for Lopez.

One of the best current examples of a good measuring stick is Carlos Molina, who has fought 4 undefeated young prospects in his last 6 fights: Josh Kelly, Souleymane Cissokho, Abass Baraou & Carlos Adames, all on THEIR home turf (the first 3 in the past 12 months).

So saying Menard is a better "measuring stick" for Lopez than Tatli does NOT mean he's a better fighter than the FInlander. The main reason I blasted Tatli so hard is because he is just one more example of an aggravating lie by Bob Arum.

so you want the guy whose had his butt dominated the most timesby other prospects?

a guy like molinas just a journeyman these days who comes to basically lose a decsision. the comparative results are interesting but only mean so much. flanagan for example ktfo magdaleno much quicker then lopez did, but who rates him the harder hitter of the 2?

just learn not to trust bobby boy

Big step up would be Jose Pedraza thats who I want to see Lopez fight next, tired watching this guy fight designated victims and then listen to him trash talk.. I think Pedraza would beat Lopez right now..

im pretty confident that lopez would do a tank davis job on pedraza even now. i think some ppl are getting impatient too quickly. dude has had what like 12 or 13 fights. i think hes ready but this early in for a guy this young hes moving pretty fast already. give him till the end of the year at least before you start ragging on him

Thats true, but when he talks he says he only wants to fight for belts, and alludes that Lomachenko being beatable so if he feels he is in that realm then step closer to that orbit or be quiet. Also I don't enjoy watching him beat overmatched opponents.
