I’ve been thinking about that - I don’t think the British leg of world title fights was actually part of the Tyson-Bruno PPV. I have a distinct memory of watching all the British fights which had loads of adverts for the PPV in between rounds, but I had to listen to the Tyson fight on the radio.

Of course, I could be remembering it wrong, it was a long time ago!

I was too young to watch it live or remember it happen but I have seen the fight a few times, I always thought Bruno wobbling Tyson in the 1st was a bit OTT, he did catch him clean but I don't think Tyson was badly hurt or staggered, same as when the commentator thought Hearns hurt Hagler which I just never seen

Good effort from Bruno but his holding and hitting was frustrating along with the constant spoiling

Bruno came round my house a couple of times when I was a kid he trained with my brother when amateur and they'd come back to ours along with Duke McKenzie and a few others

I think you're right about the British leg of that first PPV not actually being PPV. It was Naz vs Lawal from Scotland. I can imagine that it was one long advert for Bruno Tyson 2

I was so much cheering Frank on, more counting down the clock, hoping for him to get through as many rounds as possible.
Me too. Remember the Witherspoon fight and Honeyghan-Curry as well. Innocent times. Well I was 18ish, so not that innocent.

Remember it well. I was shocked at how sloppy Tyson looked. He loaded up time after time and was right there for the taking but Bruno wasn't the man to capatalize on Tyson's obvious boredom with the sport and his lack of direction under the predatory Don King and some real amateurs in his corner. (Buster Douglas, tucked away on the bill, was just 12 months away from destroying Tyson.) Richard Steele had a bad night as referee. Azumah Nelson proved the star of the show, finishing Mario Martinez in the 12th and last round with a frightening barrage.

Here's the TV times for that week, there's a piece on the fight but ITV didn't appear to show it, from the listings. Fraggle rock at 9:25 lolz

Here's the Radio Times for the same day:

BSB didn't launch until March 1990. Sky started on 5th Feb 1989.

I remember getting up in the middle of the might to listen to it on the radio. Did just the same for the rematch years later.

Maybe I'm thinking of Bruno Witherspoon. I'm certain it was on ITV at 9.25 am and BBC around 8pm.

Yes, Bruno v Witherspoon was on ITV at 9.25 am Sunday 20 July 1986 and repeated on BBC 1 at 8.35 pm. Tyson Bruno 1 was on BBC 1 at 3pm and not on ITV at all.

Yeah, I know that Bruno and the McKenzies boxed for Sir Philip Game. Bruno won the ABA heavyweight title in a classic encounter with Rudi Pika in 1980 and Duke reached the ABA semis in 1981 where he was surprisingly outboxed by a Welsh kid. Duke may have been boxing for Battersea by that time. Fred Rix later trained Tony Burke and possibly Devon Bailey, among others. Clinton married his daughter.
