He beat Joe Joyce easy enough in the semi pros. Joyce is a big man
Joyce did look a bit smaller then. Anyone know what he weighed?
It was still “little mover vs giant plodder.”
I’d love to see that again in the pros - JJ could easily reverse that result over 12.

Surprised at some of these comments.
Usyk is good but against a guy like takam he’s going to know he is in with a heavyweight.
Joshua had a rough ride against takam. If Carlos brings that form, he can make things very uncomfortable for usyk.
I don’t envisage this 12 round cakewalk where usyk comfortably dances out of trouble for the distance. I think takam makes it physical and ugly and it’ll be pretty close in the end. I don’t see takam winning as outrageous at all.

Good fight takem is strong as a bull and WIll test usyk , I predict Ortiz will be next which will be an easier fight for usyk than takem after all Ortiz is a boxer not a brawler and usyk is a better boxer and much younger and hungry and the Americans will love it as they overrate most Cubans .

It's not a bad first time to ease his way in. I figured the Povetkin fight might have been a bit ambitious, and though it could be quite a big fight down the line, Povetkin doesn't have age on his side.
Give Usyk a pass for this one, expect him to win, but probably be well tested against the rugged Takam.

Huge difference in speed. Mobility
Don't see a moment of trouble for Usyk.
What's with the blown up cruiserweight talk?
Usyk's a big guy. About 6'3.5" and he'll settle in at 220+.
You don't need to be 6'6" 250 + to be able to fight.

Exactly. Most HW’s in the 80’s and 90’s actually stayed in decent shape and weighed around 220-230.
Majority of HW’s now are just plain fat!

I can't disagree. Hunter would handle takam.

Takam is tough, but it is a good matchup for Usyk more in the terms of the opponent's name. Cause Takam is pretty shabby already and he's small. Usyk should get used to big fellas to be ready for the current champions. Like Hunter does, for example. Anyway a decent bout and it's great, that Usyk has finally moved to the HWs.

He'll beat Takam, but it won't answer the larger question of facing a 6'5" 240 LB HW. Will his power translate to the higher weight? Will he be able to take blows from a much larger man? Can he go 12 carrying an opponent of such size without tiring out in the latter rounds?
While I think he'll be ok, we can't be sure until it happens and this isn't the fight that will tell us.

And talking about the outcome I'd name Usyk a winner by a KO/TKO. Usyk will outbox Takam and Usyk's power will be enough to damage him.

100%. Maybe the goal of this fight is merely to get ranked.

I’m sure that working on punching up is something that his trainer is working on already with him and his next fight will be against someone taller than him.
If Joshua and Usyk both continue to win, an Usyk fight would be at least a year from now/year and a half.
I’ve read the goal is to make him AJs mandatory for next year.

You can say that about any fighter, big or small.
We can't be sure until we see it.
We also can't be sure that the larger heavyweights can deal with the mobility, hand speed and work rate of Usyk.
It will all play out in good time.

The 38-year-old past-his prime version of Carlos Takam looked deeply unimpressive during his most recent outing against Senad Gashi. He appeared sluggish, one-dimensional and his physique appeared fleshy.
His KO loss to Dereck Chisora during his preceding bout may have devastated him, compelling the Frenchman to become gun-shy.
It’s entirely feasible to consider the possibility that Oleksandr Usyk may be capable of wearing down Takam and score a late stoppage, despite the Ukraine not being a big puncher, because even constant dripping water can wear away stone.
I’m expecting Oleksandr Usyk to face a 20lbs+ overweight and lacklustre version of Carlos Takam and I’d be shocked if the Ukraine loses a single round from the third round onwards.
Even though I am not passionately against the prospect of witnessing a bout between Usyk and Takam, I don’t feel that this is going to be remotely competitive. In my mind, Oleksandr should have been given a sterner test for his heavyweight debut.
I really do hope that Carlos Takam proves me wrong and gives a good account of himself against Oleksandr Usyk.

Not trying to interrupt the thread .... but what happens to Usyks world cruiserweight belts? Are they going to be vacated?
Btw, Usyk wins by a very wide decision. Enlightened One is correct, Takams' physical skills have diminished.

WBA were gonna order him vs. Lebedev..
That’ll be the first to get vacated probably followed by the rest.
If the remaining CW WBSS boxers have a high ranking, they will fight for the Vacant belts I heard.
That was the WBSS plan when they made another CW tournament.

Usyk by a wide points decision. A solid first fight at HW.

The last I heard Usyk’s manager stated that they won't vacate the titles for now, since other cruiserweight champions were allowed to occasionally compete in heavyweight bouts without being stripped of their belts, such as Marco Huck's fight against Alexander Povetkin.
I feel that Usyk will eventually be stripped of his 200lbs world titles regardless, but for now, he’ll try to retain ownership of them for as long as he can.
I’m not sure if the situation has recently changed, since it was a few weeks ago when I read about this.

Much better first heavyweight fight choice than Povetkin, but Boxrec still shows Usyk vs TBA on May 18th.

Povetkin needed surgery, or so they said. Ortiz' team didn't want it either. Takam was said to be next in line. No shock here.
Lol at upset ppl. I guess AJ and Sasha are both pathetic too for fighting Takam, even more so.
