It is annoying the way Smiths commentary’s are 90% talking in the past tense usually about things outside the ring. Then when something dramatic happens he starts commenting on the actual fight

Great topic.
I watched last night’s card with my cousin, who isn’t a boxing regular and during the Fowler-Fitzy fight he picked up on the exact point being made in this thread about Smith and his complete inaccurate presentation of the fight in Fowler's favour.
Very disturbing.

Get used to him he is going nowere fast.
True
I don’t know where he came from or how he got the job, but whatever it is will keep him there for quite a while yet
Why can’t he just be the head of boxing. Does he need to commentate.
Did the previous head of boxing commentate too?
Is a trained actor who wants to hug the spotlite
I read somewhere that when he was a kid he used to turn the volume down when sport was on so that he could practice his commentary.
I bet he got invited to a lot of parties.

The Sky commentary team seemed to make a decision in round 3 to get behind Fitzgerald and all of a sudden the theme of the fight was that "it wasn't going to plan for Fowler", with all Fowlers work ignored. At one point around r5 or 6 Fowler fired home beautifully picked uppercuts that were entirely ignored, with shots Fitzgerald clearly missed being growled at by Smith and Froch. Very odd. Thy almost seem to talk themselves into 1 fighter and go with it - why not just stay subjective and call the shots as they land. The commentry has been woeful on Sky since Jim Watt called it a day.

It’s like they make a decision pre-fight who they want to support and what they want to continually comment on.
Last night it was Fowler and his jab. If you wasn’t watching the fight you’d have thought he was absolutely dominating after 3 rounds and it just wasn’t the case.
Shows how out of touch Sky/Matchroom are by employing Bellew and Froch, possibly the most dislikable blokes in UK boxing.
Must rather have the likes of Barker and Groves on.

We won't be seeing Lee on Sky in a hurry!

At least they did change tack on this one and acknowledge there was a close fight going on.

Good on him. I noticed Last week when he was standing with Froch and Nelson and that bird was asking him questions he looked a bit incredulous at times at some of the sh1t coming from them.
