It probably needs more hype in the US than the UK..
UK fans are ready..
Promoters want it to be a success both sides of the pond so they need to work on the US side I think.
Not going to happen. They're about to lose a bundle on Joshua/Miller.

If the first fight happens in the UK, it's PPV.. Over in the States, if Showtime show the fight, it will be late afternoon.. I don't think any network has ever done a daytime PPV..
Unless it's DAZN.. It might be ok..
If a rematch DOES take place in USA, it will be DAZN or Showtime PPV.. and unfortunately for UK fans, it will still be PPV.

Is this a true PPV buy rate - I'm just wondering if this is slightly misleading due to the "on demand" service etc that can be free after the fight. Is this why Joshua (being more recent) is so high on it.
Suprised that McGregor vs Mayweather isn't featured.

Bit harsh calling it "Brook vs Jennings" - that was the magnificent 7 bill which was generally applauded by boxing fans.... I personally didn't like it as I didn't see the fights as close to 50:50 as most did..... but there wasn't really a true main event there.

It was done by cable. Users had a coin slot under their TV set. It was only available in London and Sheffield and broadcasted stuff like racing and films predominantly.
That makes the 40k seem very impressive. Imagine if it was available nationwide.
Our 'Enry was a bit of an icon in his day.

I figure the numbers aren't accurate.
BARB works out weekly reach from Monday to Sunday.
Say 1.5m tuned in that week... Anywho bought the PPV could have watched highlights on Sunday. I believe that would count as another viewing.
So with Joshua being so popular, some fans might want to
relive his win.

Plus I think it is usually free from Friday after the fight - so if on demand also counts.

out of respect, there are only 3 people who know the figures
1. the broadcaster showing the event
2. the promoter
3. fighter
anyone else are just estimating because I know the broadcaster (especially in the uk) will not openly give these figures

I wouldn't have thought so, the fight would have been shown live on the a specific Sky Sports PPV channel with it's own channel number.
Any subsequent viewings, either on demand or regular Sky, would be on a different channel. I would expect Barb would differentiate.

I was gonna say Mayweather Mcgreor isn’t on there so the list must be before that fight took place.
Hatton Mayweather was huge. AJ is huge in almost any fight he is in now until he loses (and probably even after that.)
The Clay v Cooper fight must have been enormous as people mention it was over 59 years back.
I remember Lewis Tyson being massive in the press here too.

It is funny but going on my mates reactions I don't see Joshua as that big a draw....clearly and obviously a dodgy guide......theyll talk about mayweather, Hatton, Pac, McGregor, Haye, Bellew and also Fury vs Wilder....but there is no way they could say who Joshua has fought.....aside from klitschko.

The BARB figure for that is around 800k-900k
But then a lot of sources have said it broke the 1 million mark.

ya aj has nothing on bellew in the draw department
ajs still a niche , 'trade' fighter that only broke through to the super hardcores

Isnt sky a plc and obliged to provide this information to their shareholders?

No I don’t believe they would be obliged. Certainly not to ordinary minor shareholders anyway.

Interesting how Joshua's buys drop the worst the opponent gets, down 400k from the Klit fight to Povetkin

is parker better then pov?
ajs a huge draw, but even for those opponents usually still matter. canelo did 340k or something vs liam smith but 1m+ vs ggg right after for example

LOWEST UK PPV SALES (UNDER 100k)
18 September 2010 – Kell Brook vs. Michael Jennings (Sky Box Office) 15k
25 May 2013 – Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler II (Sky Box Office) 32k
21 May 1966 – Muhammad Ali vs. Henry Cooper II (Pay TV) 40k
21 May 2011 – George Groves vs. James DeGale (Sky Box Office) 43k
23 November 2013 – Carl Froch vs. George Groves (Sky Box Office) 47k
HIGHEST UK PPV SALES
29 April 2017 – Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko Sky Box Office 1,53m
31 March 2018 – Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker Sky Box Office 1,457m
8 December 2007 – Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton Sky Box Office 1,15m
2 July 2011 – Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye Sky Box Office 1,143m
22 September 2018 – Anthony Joshua vs. Alexander Povetkin Sky Box Office 1,113m
2 May 2015 – Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao Sky Box Office 1m+
I would think that some of the Primetime (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primetime_(TV_channel)) PPVs would have done less buys than the lowest Sky PPVs listed.

Surely Primetime stuff will be really low.
Was Earl vs Bennett on Primetime or some other short lived PPV channel? I remember Tyson vs McBride being on the same channel.
Wasn't Dynamite Dean Phillips vs Kevin Bennett also on some Pay Stream?
