Whoops I posted this earlier in the wrong thread ...

Until Usyk fights at heavyweight then he is surely a cruiserweight and the most dominant champion in any division.

Once he's fought Takam then the answer very much depends on your interpretation of the question: I'd say Lomachenko based not so much on what he's done, but that he needs to move up in weight to find someone who can live with him in the ring. In my book that means he's the most dominant champion at his natural weight. None of others can say "I have no serious challenges at my current weight".

Rungvisai maybe? Defeated a previous dominant champion twice and doesn't look to have anyone there to beat him at Super fly, the danger is if he moved up to bantam.

Why is Terence Crawford’s name included in this poll?

‘Bud’ WASdominant” at 140lbs, but he has achieved almost nothing at 147lbs. The best victory on his resume at welterweight came against Jeff Horn. And let’s face it, the Aussie hasn’t earned the right to be classed amongst the top-ten welterweights.

And before anyone claims I’m a “hater”, I’m merely being objective. I believe that Terence Crawford is a fantastic fighter, definitely a member of the mythical pound-for-pound elite, despite having achieved very little as a welterweight.

ESPN, The RING and TRBR don't consider Terence Crawford as the best at 147lbs either.

Do people believe that time stands still? What has Crawford achieved since the Julius Indongo bout that took place two years ago?

Terence Crawford will probably run out of options after Amir Khan fight anyway, which means there is very little hope in the short-term of us witnessing ‘Bud’ becoming the most “dominant” fighter in the welterweight division. He'll probably continue “dominating” fringe contenders whilst being steered away from universally-regarded top-ten 147lb-ers.

If anyone disagrees, check Crawford’s list of opponents at 147lbs, various ratings, as well as the dictionary definition of the word “dominant”, and let’s discuss this.

EO, considering last several years, there were only two absolutely dominant champions - Usyk (200) and Crawford (140).
Competition at CW has been much stronger than at LWW, but, noone should blame Crawford because of that, he did not avoid anyone, and he achieved everything without the help of the judges and the referees.

Some fighters were close to the status of absolutely dominant at their respevtive weight divisions (Mayweather at 147, Ward at 168, W. Klitschko at + 200).

I have put Crafword on this list, because the great majority of the members of this forum think that he is among the top 3 p4p boxers nowadays, at least 40% of the posters think that Crawford is # 1 p4p.

Yup, agreed. A fighter can be great but not dominating as a champ in the division. That takes performances like Usyk did at CW. Hagler at MW, etc.

Lomachenko is probably the most dominant in my eyes. If he was supposed to have struggled with Linares it must've been a different fight than I watched, Linares might've won 3 rounds at best there. Loma has dominated everyone he's fought pretty much. Linares was the only one who kinda gave him a contest, and it was still pretty damn lopsided by the end.

linares gave him a good fight and dropped his ass. loma was ahead imo but it was close

what i dont get is ppl talking like he struggled vs pedraza, he dropped the guy twice and hardly got touched. pedrazas accuracy was woeful and loma landed more and better pretty much every round. maybe its just cus tank stopped pedraza so ppl think loma had problems by not stopping him

Comparing outcomes against common opponents is clearly one of the best means of evaluating the accomplishments of two guys who have not fought each other head-to-head!! :OhYes:

Tank basically demolished Pedraza in a way that makes Loma's performance vs Jose a relatively troublesome outing. That doesnt mean Davis would beat Loma head-to-head but he definitely dominated Pedraza compared to what Loma did.

loma had no trouble with him, its bizarre how ppl act like pedraxa wasnt comprehensively outboxed and beaten up. loma just didnt have tanks aggression and offensive firepower to blast him out. pedraza hardly landed a clean shotall night, kinda like when russell landed at 9 percent. btw after russell beat gonzo i know some past bestc pip folk saying russ wud beat loma and the actual h2h meeting didnt matter

loma had an easier time vs rocky martinez then mikey did! but mikey beat a guy who beat loma! mind blown :oo

A fighter being a pound-for-pounder isn’t the same as being a dominant world champion in their own weight class.

Bud was previously the dominant figure at 140lbs, but he isn’t universally regarded as being the best at 147lbs, since he has achieved very little in his new weight division.

Crawford hasn’t avoided anyone at 147lbs, but his handlers, Top Rank, haven’t attempted to make bouts against the biggest names in that division either.

"Amazed" is definitely too strong of a word. There is a lot of difference between impressed and amazed. I stand by my previous claim that Spence dominated Mikey more because of superior boxing skills and hand speed than because of the size differential. I also took issue with the ridiculous claim by E-O that Spence had a "Goliath"-style size advantage over Mikey when it was no more than the size advantage Leonard had over Hearns.

Best Coast wrote: 31 Mar 2019, 20:53 Calling Spence a "Goliath" is pure nonsense. His boxing skills were far superior to Mikey's and he used quicker hand speed to consistently beat Garcia to the punch. That had nothing to do with size. That's why the textbook schooling he gave Mikey was more impressive than an overpowering stoppage would have been
I'll concede Loma's win over Rigo was impressive. My main beef with that was that Bob Arum pressured Rigo into to making the move all the way up to 130 when Rigo said he preferred to face Loma at 126. Mikey was not pressured by anyone to go to 147...in fact his team told him it was too big a jump and he shouldnt do it. The 12-pound jump was COMPLETELY Mikey's decision & a gutsy (though unwise) one at that. I say unwise because slick-boxing southpaw Spence may well have given slick-boxing southpaw Loma the BLUEPRINT for beating Mikey. Before his loss to Spence I was predicting Garcia would beat Loma. I no longer believe that because every fight provides new input for predicting fights and I now favor Loma over Garcia (even at 140).

Best Coast wrote: 25 Mar 2019, 22:48 You're absolutely right. Mikey called out Spence, not the other way around. I really dont think Garcia expected Spence to be that skillful of a boxer. Once he fully realized that, he gradually morphed into survival mode. I've got no criticism of EITHER fighter. It took guts on Mikey's part to make a jump of 2 divisions to go against a P4P fighter like Errol.

My main regret is that we will probably never see Mikey vs Loma and even if we do Loma may borrow some of Spence's blueprint to outbox Garcia.

While Crawford is not universally regarded as the best at 147, Bud is WIDELY regarded as the best welter today!! Spence may have closed the gap somewhat but more people consider Bud a dominant champ than Spence. Not only do BoxRec rankings put Bud as best WW but the poll at the beginning of this thread gives Crawford 6 votes, which is 2nd in this poll. Spence didnt get any votes so far in this poll, so it looks like Current Scene commenters favor Bud.
