I'm surprised that anyone thinks this is a good choice. Banks did nothing with Wlad except perhaps, keep him in shape. The entire tactics and strategy was created by Manny and Banks added nothing to it. And when it really needed to be changed because Wlad was fighting a bigger man in Fury, then Banks was not up to the task of getting Wlad to let his hands go and come forward. Even during this fight, it was Vitali screaming at him in the corner that he had to be more aggressive.
If Golovkin wants a trainer to give him some sort of edge or insights over Canelo, then he should've been looking elsewhere.

Agree in full. Banks is shit. Wlad absolutely suffered for having had Banks as his trainer. Not sure how anyone could possibly think this is a good choice for GGG. Has Banks developed or trained anyone besides riding on Emanuels coat-tails with Wlad? Did anyone see Banks rematch with Mitchell.... ZERO credibility after that. ABSOLUTELY ZERO.

Apart from Cecilia Brækhus, which fighters does Johnathon Banks currently train? There must be a reason for this.
I’m not sure if he can take a lot of credit for the success enjoyed by Wladimir Klitschko or Cecilia Brækhus.
Golovkin’s new professional relationship with Johnathon Banks is probably a marriage of convenience, since both men have close ties with Tom Loeffler and K2.
I also suspect the inactive American trainer would be happy to receive any sort of payday and also enhance his reputation as a result of working with Golovkin.
Apart from GGG potentially acquiring the services of a “cheap” trainer, I doubt that hiring Banks is likely to have any real positive effect on his performance levels inside the ring.
The most that Gennadiy can possibly hope for is for Banks to keep things ticking over and perhaps even slowing down his inevitable decline due to his age.

Banks has a long term relationship with Loefler. This is likely a reason for the choice.
Well, he knows how to hold pads. I doubt any trainer can really change a boxer after a 25-year career.

Banks will be great for GGG. He's tasted leather himself, felt the bright lights and was a whisker away from the big time himself.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑06 May 2019, 10:21 Banks has a long term relationship with Loefler. This is likely a reason for the choice.

Working with Steward and Klitschko isn't going to hurt either.
The main doubts with Banks are the same as those with Sanchez - tactics. A great trainer needs a mind like a Bonaparte to continually assess the action, work out the scoring and find the right plan - all in the heat of the battle.
