Its highly unlikely Charles suffered from ALS in 1949. The disease progresses pretty quickly (relatively) from diagnoses. Most people live 3-5 years from the time they are diagnosed. Stephen Hawking lived 55 years with it but his body useless most of that time and he was helped by the most advanced medicine of the 20th century. He certainly wasnt boxing.
