How many fights do a champion has in 1 year? Max 3 fights - IF he is active and healthy. So how long a boxer on rank 1 have to wait, to get the chance to fight the Champion, if he isn't healthy? And in the meantime, who should fight the ranked no 2 fighter? He can't fight the ranked no 1, because he already earned his spot, and so on. One Champion would be pretty boring, cause no boxer or Manager want to lose his spot. With more Champions there are more perspectives. Moreover, a good matured fight between 2 popular Boxers is better then a quicky fight. And at the end, we get the fights we want to see. At least most of the time.

Having one champion per division gives less opportunity to those who have been robbed by the judges. That's the biggest problem with boxing right now. Some of these judges are incompetent idiots and then there are others who are corrupt. I think four belts is okay if they at least try to unify every few years. The belts make more fights possible. This is not the old days where they fight every month.

Fight fans have sufficient power to only recognise one governing body.

If all of us choose to recognise only one specific organisation, with all of us choosing the same one whilst ignoring the others, then this will achieve the same feat.

The reason why so many belts exist, is because fight fans are willing to pay a premium to watch “world championship” bouts, even if we know very little about the organisation behind the title itself.

This situation will continue for as long as the sports’ governing bodies are capable of receiving sizable sanctioning fees, which are ultimately funded by fight fans.

Many fight fans are complaining about a situation they’ve inadvertently created themselves.

the thing is, if the 4 united. immediately a new org would spring up, with top class fighters as their champ.
and with boxing, money is key, and risk factor. you cant force someone to risk their life.

so it comes down to culture. you could have a respected org and champ, like ring magazine. but there are always going to be subjectice calls, which split opinion.

i think best bet is to use ring mag, but with a pinch of salt. and same with the abcs. expert fans can work out who is a legitimate undisputed champ, and who is no.1 etc

Unfortunately with GBP pulling the strings, The Ring no longer holds the prestige of yesteryear.

perhaps so. but i see them as a legit starting point, rather than looking to the ridiculous abc rankings.

At least it's all inclusive.

I haven't bought a ring magazine since Oscar purchased it.
