Povetkin badly broke Joshua's nose at the end of round one. Does anybody have a video showing the full fight? There was really no question that Povetkin won the early rounds.

I predicted that my Vityaz man would win that fight and I was very excited in the early rounds thinking that I was going to be right!

dagilechia wrote: 28 May 2019, 12:45 as far as i remember, Povetkin was coming forward, he threw slighty more and he landed the best punch of the round (a good combination that broked AJ's nose and wobbled him). maybe it was quite close but Povetking was good enough to give him this round. it sometimes happens in boxing that a fight scored for example 118-110 was much closer than the result says. most of rounds were close but the fighter A was slighty better in the vast majority of them. Povetkin wasn't dominant but slighty better in most of rounds, imo.
I get your point and agree with what you say. I also don’t believe there’s anything wrong with scoring the first round for Povetkin, as I thought it could’ve gone either way.

And by your own admission, it was evenly-contested, even if you thought the Russian had the edge and deserved to win it.

What I don’t get though, is the reason why everyone (as in 99% of people) awarded this particular round to Povetkin, barring the judges and the commentators. So little happened.

I’m not going to debate this particular point with anyone, but it just seems strange that when almost nothing happens during a round, people still find a way to decide upon a clear winner - they won’t concede they’re difficult to score (except for good yourself) and nor will they consider scoring them as 10-10 rounds.

A “could’ve gone either way” sort of round equates to a two-point swing on the judges’ scorecards, which is pretty significant for evenly-contested fights.

and i mean, if others can see the vids then obviously they havent been wiped from the net. i think eo is from the uk, youd think if they wanted to hide that fight becasue aj was getting beaten up theyd start with blocking joshuas biggest fan base (in the uk)

Im gonna watch it tonight. One annoying thing about some boxing fans online is their biased scoring based upon nationalistic lines or just seeing a big underdog doing better than expected, and scoring rounds for them because they're either hoping they do well and like to root for David against Goliath.

it's simple - it's because Pov wobbled AJ and broked his nose, that's why people score it for AP

EO is from The Netherlands. I'm from the UK and very pro-Joshua. I had Povetkin ahead early. He broke AJ's nose with a left hook. Joshua was never in trouble but it took him a while to figure out how best to combat Sasha's style. Once he had done, he was able to capitalize on his youth and his physical advantages, and when Povetkin started feeling his age it was over as a contest, then came the stoppage.

I was left thinking what a useful learning experience it had been for Joshua, how well Povetkin had acquitted himself, and what a fearsome proposition he would have been for Wilder ( or AJ) had he fought him in 2015 or 2016.

Very good fight. Povetkin was ahead until he got caught in round seven. Even the British broadcasters - who did broadcast the fight fairly, as opposed to US broadcasters and many British broadcasters - said so.

One of the first things I was taught when I started boxing was to step in when I threw a jab. Pov. steps in, or leaps in, with all his punches.

Joshua is definitely legit but I think a younger Povetkin would have beat him. He was 39 here. Even Wlad at his peak couldn't beat Povetkin without fighting like an goddamn octopus and he should have been disqualified for hanging on like that. It was Wlad's most disgraceful fight.

I don't think I'd go that far but it would have been quite a fight. I'm probably not your best bet for an impartial opinion though.

The nose injury wasn’t immediately apparent during the round itself. And the winner of rounds isn’t determined based on the amount of blood being flowed during the one minute break either.

In terms of AJ being “wobbled”, it appeared that Joshua lost his balance as Povetkin’s left hand connected whilst the Brit was pivoting away and standing on only his leading leg.

It was obviously a good clean shot though.

Like I said before, that one shot that Povetkin landed during the dying seconds of the opening round was the only thing of note he did during those three minutes, which I feel was open to interpretation.

The commentators, the judges and myself didn’t score this round to Povetkin.

It wasn’t an easy round to score and could’ve gone either way, because very little happened.

What you should have said had you phrased that correctly is, "In me 'umble opinion i think that prime Povetkin couldn't have defeated Joshua and that's my story for whatever it's worth but I'm sticking with it. "

IMO Povetkin ahead on cards at the time of stoppage. Better boxer but that wasn’t enough to overcome physical advantages of AJ.
All differences aside, in the way it played out, a bit similar fight to Usyk vs Bellew.
