I totally agree. And when you would give an alternate opinion, you were accused of being an AJ hater. I love boxing. I love what's good for boxing. I may lean one way or another, but I love all the great fighters. I was accused of being a Wilder fanboy; AJ hater; etc. simply because I wouldn't "anoint him." In the words of Scarface, "well, look at you now." :TU: He'll be back though. Maybe even better than before.

guys like lep and ewey always goes on about 'give aj any criticsm and you get attacked' but i usually didnt see that at all, nowhere near that extent.

any big time fighter gets plenty of love and hate too, hardly just some all inclusive aj love fest

Before the Ruiz fight the board was very biased towards Aj an a lot of bias towards any Matchroom fighter in my opinion. Quite cringey at times

I wonder if Schwarz will get an upset against Fury an then everybody will be saying that Schwarz was massively under rated an Fury was always a useless bum

I think the thing is that some people could see flaws in AJ and were not going to totally buy into him. Acknowledge that he is a big strong lump and one of the top guys but not that he was all conquering killer and world number one.

Any time we said these things, with calmness, thought and a solid reasoned argument, we would be shouted down as haters. So sure, it is nice to bask a little in being proven right.

I wrote here quite clearly that one issue with AJ is that when he is hit, he stays hit. That his recovery powers are slow and that if Wlad pushed the point, he would have finished AJ off. That he is not a natural instinctive fighter, that it is almost punching by numbers with him needing to be told exactly what to do.

I am wrong as often as right but I did feel passionately on this one so let us have a rare moment

totally exaggerated that you couldnt give any sort of criticism without some mass shouting down, seems like the ppl saying that were just overly sensitive about it and in there heads magnified what it was like. there was lots of back and forth with opinions on both sides, including extreme opinions (aj atg vs aj euro level at best) and some good reasonable opinions and discussion.

pretty much no fighter of that profile escapes having a healthy 'not fan' base either. there are lovers, haters, and in betweeners

That's pretty much the line I took on here too Toby and how I view Joshua as a fighter

No conspiracy AJ was beaten by a better man, who will beat him again in a rematch. One guy on here called Ruiz a bum which just goes to show how little he knows. Maybe the occasion did get to AJ but his performance wasn't bad until he got tagged in round three and after that he didn't seem to have an answer for Ruiz. Plan A, B and C were not going to work for him, so he fought on hoping he could hurt Ruiz and knock him out.. Ruiz has never been stopped as a pro or as an amateur. Respect for a man who deserves to hold the belts

Not sure about that. He's only been down before against Vlad and that was via a punch that would have knocked anybody down and he got back up to win.

Why didn't a man of such experience as Wlad finish him off then?

Because Klitschko was programmed to be safety first to protect his own chin.

And I think he was a bit tired at that point after having to get back into the fight himself

wlad was not that cautious, he went for it and threw some hard shots, lots of left hooks, he just wasnt balls to wall

Can someone please bump all these threads where people have been claiming Joshua is some ATG unbeatable monster? Cos I genuinely don’t remember them. I always thought the consensus was that he’s definitely in the top 3 of a currently fairly weak heavyweight division, but I don’t really remember anyone saying he’d beat Ali/Lennox/Tyson (M)?

Most of them are in the boxing history thread. And they were generally hijacked by a small number of posters

its at most a tiny minority that claimed that

what happens is that some isolated poster or two makes an extreme claim, then some ppl latch on to that and generalize it like every one was saying that when hardly any one was

i have to lol at ppl who are saying 'hahah!' at ppl like kalan, like, huge victory bro!

and the ppl who go on about everyone claiming so and so is the greatest tend to just in general dump on popular fighters , especially when they lose

for example tuan jim/overhand right also started like 5 ggg hype job /'ha he lost!' threads, said kovalev was the most ovverrated here ever and got fussy when i posted evidence to the contrary, said usyks totally overrated, was dumping on aj, wlad, etc

they follow boxing just to see popular fighters get 'exposed' as frauds. that seems to be the only reason much of the history sections pays any attention to current boxing tbh

A bit tired cos he'd been smacked dead hard in the head repeatedly.

Possibly assumption that he would not recover at all. Recovery may be slow but he can recover

There's a bit of both sides I think.

There's sometimes a rush by the current generation to anoint people too early as it reflects modern media, everything has to be bigger and better than what came before.

The opposite entrenchment is the absolute refusal to accept that anything new can be better than the glory days of the past.

I think the sensible position for most who have followed boxing for a long time is the let's wait and see we've heard this story before and we know the flame often fizzles out

Joshua boxed smart and got away then stopped him. He was fantastic that night, as much as he we was getting done last weekend.

Like saying his big following is over immediately.
