Ricky wrote: 10 Jun 2019, 20:37 I'd take that more seriously if you followed it up with something better than Ruslan vs Bradley. As good as that fight was, it was hardly the highest echelon of the sport in a technical sense. Pacquiao JMM 4 was 2 absolute masters of their craft going to total war with a incredible results and the greatest KO in boxing history imo.

As much as I enjoy watching old classics like Rumble in the Jungle, No Mas & Hagler Hearns, they don't measure up to Pac Jmm 4 imo. (I actually watched Thrilla in Manilla tonight).

Now, i think rewatching fights from before your time certainly loses some context; live fights come with greater excitement of being in the here & now and not knowing whats going to happen, so perhaps the classics probably start off at a disadvantage. My jaw was wide open for 5 minutes when Marquez laid him out.
I do agree with the point you are making about the excitement of the unknown.
May I also add that too many old great fights are exaggerated or embellished to the point that when you watch them you are almost disappointed

It's atrocious anyone voted for Joshua v Ruiz. Neither Joshua nor Ruiz are considered the best in their own division. HW has always had Fury, Wilder, and AJ. Usyk is now in the mix too. It always looked like Fury was ahead by a nose and he's still at least ahead by a nose on Wilder, but it's clear it would probably be more against Joshua.

Both Marquez and Pacman are ATG caliber fighters. Their saga is literally among the best ever in the history of the sport.

No. Manny Pacquiao was KTFO in what was the best series finisher. EVER. That is among the best KOs EVER. The fact that it involved a Top 25 fighter EVER in his prime with a Top 150 fighter EVER trumps anything Joshua or Ruiz have done or will ever do.

EVER.

I already voted for The Planquiao. Unlaxicate yourself.

TFKoB is The Man in the HW div, today.

Furthermore, you have no clue what AJ and TFKoB will accomplish over their careers.

Anthony Joshua defeating Wladimir Klitschko rejuvenated heavyweight boxing for decades to come. Already several pretenders to the throne are beginning to emerge with no doubt more to follow.

Hopefully the Klitschko brothers will be reevaluated and reassessed in time. They were nigh on unbeatable for many years but unfortunately happened to be neither American, British or Mexican.

Decades are assumed to to be set from every tenth year starting from 00. It's odd to say fight of the decade and start in the middle of 09. Wouldn't you say?

Like, Fighter of the Century (June 10 1919 - June10 2019). Pretty silly.

Is it really that difficult to figure out decades?

2000 thru 2009 was our first decade in the 21st century.

Now it's 2010 thru 2019. Our second decade.

We shouldn't need brain surgeons to settle the matter.

The thread title is wrong, since no one is able to see into the future to watch any of the bouts occurring between tomorrow through until some point during 2020.
Hilarious!!!

This is akin to someone saying Muhammad Ali was born in 1945. Someone corrects him saying he was not born in 45, but 42. Then someone else chimes in and responds, "Muhammad was born 77 years ago. It's irrefutable. "

You have to remember this is the same clown that stated Cabell fought once in 2018 and when I corrected him he went into fractional years there too. Math is not Fergus best skill.

nah its true, sooo overrated, there was literally no momentum shifts or comebacks or out of nowhere moments, and for 2.5 rounds it was just hagler pounding on hearns. tommy for some reason had no legs exceptionally early in that fight

ya i guess for haggler beating the crap out of him in a largely one way traffic fight. tommy was an exceptional fighter, always surprises me how hagler destroyed him like that

Some guys say Ali-Frazier 3 wasn't a good fight. They were supposedly punching too slowly.

So I guess you have to expect someone might opine that Hagler-Hearns was overrated.

Waiting now for a poster to swear that Gatti-Ward I was dull overall.

it was a very good fight, simply not as good as billed. no one was saying it was dull. the fact that ppl so uncritically respond like you did pip just shows how overrated it is. ppl apparently cant even question the fight

tell me , where were the

-comebacks
-trading of knockdowns
-momentum shifts
-out of nowhere moments
-sustained competitive action
-etc

it was a furious 1 minute, and then the rest a beat down with hearns never looking in it

Tbh, in hindsight it was not as great as it was live. The buildup was massive. Essentially immovable object v unstoppable force. It lived up to the hype.

The shots that Hagler absorbed in round 1 would KTFO a horse.

A decade means a time period of ten years. Look it up! :TU:
