This is my short list (not realistic, likely) of Fury's opponents which I would be glad to see :

1. Whyte/Rivas winner
2. Parker
3. Povetkin
4. Pulev
5. Kabayal
You have to invert your list except for kabayel

1-pulev
2-povetkin
3-parker
4-whyte/ Rivas

Pulev is a mandatory for Ruiz.
No way does he risk the title shot fighting Fury

No way. ESPN is paying Fury too much to even come up with a decent offer to Pulev.
Pulev is not a drawing fighter. And I'm sure Furys numbers for last night's mismatch will not help in securing the fight

that just reported to the comission. fury only got 1m reported too. all insiders saying fury actually got 12.5m guranteed and shwarz low 7 figures guarnteed

ggg also got a 'reported' 2m for rolls but ppl who know the payments say it was more like 15m.

manny in the day would get like 5m reported to the comission , but in reality was making 20m plus

It'll be someone with a high ranking, even if they're no real threat. This is a systematic deal to make Fury #1 or #2 across the board so that the Joshua-Ruiz rematch winner cannot avoid him.

That's why I think Wilder-Fury 2 will happen much farther into the future than people think. It won't be February. It'll be another winter showdown.

Wilder's a genuine threat. Ruiz & Joshua are not as threatening to Fury. So I think the rationale will be to pick up the majority of the belts by summer 2020, and the undisputed championship in around December against Wilder.

Ruiz, unlike Wilder, is more popular. Joshua, tainted record and all, is more popular than Wilder. Fury is getting more popular as time goes on. It makes more sense to take on the easier, more fun, fights before fighting Wilder again.

I think Pulev is most likely. He was supposed to be the guy last night but between getting cut and the Jenny Sushe bullshit Top Rank had to scramble to find some high ranking opponent who was no threat (Schwarz).

The German newspapers say Schwarz got €800k, which is just under $1.2m.

Pulev is IBF#1 for Ruiz. Winnable fight.

IBF could strip Ruiz for rematching AJ, giving Pulev the belt likely against Kabayel. Winnable fight.

Pulev won't be fighting Fury.

The win over Schwarz should move Fury into the top ten of all 4 orgs. He'll likely look to posture for higher ranking/more money to get Wilder/Ruiz/AJ etc next year or 2021. I'd imagine his next fight to be an inflated ranking like Bryan, Wallin, Oquendo, Kabayel, or someone like that that makes good business sense. Fury has already proven he's at the top...but now it' all about positioning himself for the most money for the next high level fight he gets.

Fury isn't doing this to improve his ranking.

This is all about maximising the revenue for the Wilder rematch

Bleh.... If he ain't fighting anyone who makes any sort of sense beyond dollars and cents I'm losing interest fast in Fury.

If all he's ever wanted was some sort of fanfare and attention he's not the man I thought he was. That's crybaby bullshit.

Then again.... Only Rocky Marciano didn't avoid anyone. Everyone else picked and chose who they wanted to fight and when and where and for how much.

Still, I'm sorely pissed. What's the sense in being a die-hard fan from the beginning, defending the best man on the planet, if he's going to revert into some sort of player like all the rest.

"You sold out!", is all I keep seeing in my head. Just another damn wannabe celebrity. Real fighters DEMAND facing the best out there. An easy one now and then for show, then it's down to business.

Fury is long past having to worry about rankings with organisations. He's an ex champion and a big fish in the division . He can have a title shot any time he wants.

It's the same with others like Alvarez, Golovkin, Joshua, Crawford, Lomachenko. These guys don't need to wait in line. Rankings are for guys on the way up.

Nobody said anything about rankings for a title shot. Fury is strengthening his position at the table for negotiations with guys that would really rather not fight him. Rankings may play a part in how much he's offered, but more importantly they may force some hands that potentially don't want to fight him.

Fury's ranking with any organisation will have absolutely no bearing on what he's paid to fight Wilder again.

He probably already knows what he's getting paid. It's all about maximising the PPV sales now. Rankings won't impact on that, exposure and personalities will.

Why are you assuming he's only going after Wilder? Fury is the best guy in the division and nobody is champing at the bit to fight him. He may need to force hands by landing a mandatory and having other options definitely has a bearing on pre-fight negotiations. That's kind of day one stuff.

Once more.

Fury does not and will not need to land any mandatory positions.

In actual fact it would be against his best interests as he would have to accept a lower %

Sorry, but Fury isn't a title holder and isn't the driving force of the division just yet. And he doesn't sound exactly like he himself is chomping at the bit to fight anyone above #56 in the rankings.

He's fought Wlad and Wilder. He's got the best resume of anyone relevant. Now he's just positioning himself to earn as much as he can for any future "mega fights". As you say, he isn't a title holder so moving himself up the boards will clearly help force a fight if needed, and help at the table since negotiations will likely be tense and being able to sing may not be enough despite what some here may think.
