Re: Is this the last we see of Dave Allen?

Allen has a decent profile and comes across well so I can see him picking up some punditry work in the future. Hopefully he stops now if he really has health issues...

He sounds like James toney but with a Yorkshire accent
Thanks for that perspective Coco!Coco wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 12:13 We have to be realistic about damage, boxing is not good for you, it's not good for anyone.
I had 54 pro fights, I had an op on my nose, my hands are arthritic, my back is bad, and I have nerve damage in one of my eyes.
Now, I am a teacher, physically it's not dangerous but as with all jobs they take their piece of meat. Working full stop is not good for you, stress is the biggest killer, getting up early every day to slog your guts out doesn't do anyone any good.
We all sell ourselves for money, and the trick is to get the balence right.
If Dave Allen leaves boxing with some aches and pains and his mortgage paid off before he is 30, he should be a happy man.
All in all I feel teaching takes more out of me and the pay is less.
True - however, it’s not just the fights - the cumulative effect of lots of sparring is a big factor.
Yeah he’s definitely no company man, won’t suit the Sky set up at all.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 11:58 Allen is a brilliant pundit, would definitely like to see him pursue that. I suspect he’s far too honest for Sky though, so maybe a gig on Channel 5 or BT?

What if he'd won? He rolled the dice and was willing to fight anyone for our entertainment. Good luck to him.tobyh5 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 13:32 I hope he packs it in for his own good as he appears a decent guy. I've chatted to him at various shows and he is likeable but I have to say that I was glad Price one as I began to feel it was time this circus of the Allen show ended and it is time to let the boxers with a real future ahead of them got the slots he has been taking up.
Yeah, good luck to him but honestly, it was all a little pantomine and as I said, taking slots from guys with a real future and chance at world level, no one in any sane mind thought Allen had that kind of future. He maxed out and well done to him, I am full of admiration of how he has maxed out the return on frankly area level talent, shoddy work ethic (in MOST fights and camps) but a big set of balls.samwbr wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 14:53What if he'd won? The sport is a circus ultimately, the fighters get chucked aside eventually, always have.
I know he suffered from depression bad enough that he took a break from boxing when he was 23.

He said it in his IFL post fight interview and because of this he was happy for price and although he likes Allen, he isn’t serious.oogiebe wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 15:20True?black panther wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 15:18 Wish him well but Chisora said he was out at the bar until 2:30am the day before the fight.....
When has he shown he's good? He's def shown he's tough, but I listed seven legit domestics who are streets ahead of him ability-wise. It's not jumping on the guy, it's just how it stands.Noxy wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 08:59 Whatever happens, let's not all jump on the - Dave Allen isn't that good - bandwagon. He is good and he's shown that. He got beaten last night by another good fighter. It happens.
Personally, I'd like to see him call it a day too but it's his decision. Reading his tweet, I'm wondering whether he's actually fit to do it still "declining health".

Webb and Browne, for example. I haven’t seen your post, seven UK guys streets ahead of him - Fury, Whyte, AJ, Chisora, Price, Hughie and DD? I won’t argue with that. The point is - as someone else posted -the Price match was a fair one. Price turned up last night and was better than he has sometimes been in the past. That’s why it played out the way it did.Steveh583 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 15:27When has he shown he's good?
