I am not limiting it to the Anthony Joshua fight; if you watch a lot of Ruiz fights, he goes to the back of the head. He also hits Joshua in the back of the head in the combo before he caught him on the temple. That said, it's fake news I was watching and he never ever throws them. Watch his first round knockout of Elijah McCall. It looks like a neck/back of the head shot that knocks his opponent down and out. That's obviously trash and my eyes deceived me and the shots landed square on the chin. My bad.
“That fat little Mexican cheated! And it is not the first time!!! My man Anthony been done wrooong!! He shouldn’t have to fight that jiggling cheater again. It just is not fair!!!! He should be 0-everything!!! But Noooo, I did not see those shifty little fat Mexican eyes targeting poor Anthony behind the ear, then pop, perfectly landed. My bad”

Plenty of back of the head right hooks from Ruiz in this clip too -go to the 6.13min mark. Its his pet combo and he delivers it was such speed. A force to be reckoned with:

Watch from the 1min 50 second mark
What I saw was a no hoper lobbying for a DQ. The legal punching area is not limited to the chin. This is not RockemSockem Robots. TFKoB throws hooks targeting one side or the other of the opponents head.
If AJ is half as mindfvcked as you, he best skip the rematch.

Are you mad? He did his damage with a perfect left hook to the chin. The same thing happened v AJ.

Oh dear, ironbeard, your comments about Ruiz being a " fat little mexican" make for uncomfortable reading. I hope that's not what you think of Ruiz.
Ruiz's race or physical shape has nothing to do with it. I think Joshua did well to put a dent in Ruiz by dropping him, then rushed in and made a mistake, got caught and was never at the races thereafter. I also like the way Ruiz carries himself out of the ring -seems friendly, relaxed, approachable. He is also a hell of a fighter; very fast hands, accurate, relaxed, patient, great timing and intelligent. It's just that I have seen quite a few of his fights over the years and have noticed the right hand behind the head/neck left hook combo. I was first aware of Ruiz when he stopped Elijah McCall -it was interesting because Oliver has the best chin I have ever seen in my life, so it was a surprise to see his son get stopped -except, he wasn't stopped with a chin or temple shot, but a shot to the back of the head/neck.
Maybe I am unfairly maligning Ruiz, and it could just be that fighters are moving and not slipping punches when they should be, but the welfare of his opponents is of concern.

TBF it doesn't really seem like AJ fanboyism to me. Ruiz does throw a lot of shots around the side of the head and I can see what Lenny is getting at, though don't agree that these are illegal and that Ruiz is intentionally trying to land back of the head.

You are sick.
Watch it again -right hook behind the ear followed by the left hook that floors him. Trip to Specsavers for Ironbeard. Bless ya.

Fair enough.
Btw, I don’t just worry about “the welfare of his opponents.” I worry about ALL combat sports participants.

You need help.
Only rabbit punches are illegal. End of.
Behind the ear is a legal shot.
Let it go, FFS
Thanks, James. The Boxing Board of Control prohibits:
(c) hitting on the back of the head or neck:
The punch that felled McCall was on the back of the head and neck (and therefore illegal); and behind the ear is part of the back of the head. Pay attention at the back of the class.

Your entire premise is wildly biased and unfair.
Its good that you are concerned about all combat sports participants. Me too. There is common ground there. Where we differ is the use of back of the head shots. And we'll leave it at that.

Where we differ is that I consider your accusations of TFKoB intentionally targeting the back of opponents’ heads to be irresponsible and baseless.

And I consider your description of Ruiz as a fat little Mexican to be crass and unpleasant. Re: intentionally targeting the back of the head, you may well be right; it might not be intentional. It seems that I am sitting in splendid isolation with my concern, so am happy to concede that I was wrong. My original post was certainly not written out of sour grapes for Joshua losing. Personally, I think Wilder beats the lot of them,.

You must have missed the “ marks and the obvious sarcasm. Are you suggesting that your accusations of TFKoB were made in jest?
The fact is that TFKoB won the fight legitimately, and his most important weapon was his superior beard.
Your attempts at delegitimizing the win are pathetic.

TBH you are talking about AJ more than he is. I think he's making just a general observation across several different fights, not some AJ nutboy excuses

I disagree.
Ironbeard, I think you are presenting a strawman argument. My concerns were a general one, and not limited to Joshua. My feelings on their fight was ambiguous; I felt sad for Joshua to lose on his US debut and felt delighted that Ruiz has changed his family fortunes. That said, reading back through my own posts, I can appreciate that they were unnecisarily rude, for which I apologise.

I felt the same way. I have always liked AJ.
If your point is a general one then why are you not posting examples of all the other boxers who have hit their opponents behind the ear?
You made a completely dubious accusation about TFKoB. Saying he has at times landed blows towards the back of the head is completely different than specifically alleging that he trains for and targets the area.

My point was related to him (not the Joshua fight per se), as watching a few of his fights either live or on youtube it seemed to me that hitting behind the ear as part of combo is a well-timed move; but, as you say, it may well not be; Holyfield was accused of using his head a lot, and whilst he did use it on Tyson's cut, I don't think he intentionally used his head throughout his career, as it was more to do with his fighting style of bouncing on his feet and then jumping in with overhand rights and left hooks.
Incidentally, there is footage of a 19 year old Ruiz sparring with a 46 year old Holyfield and Evander talking about Ruiz -he rates him very highly indeed:

I am probably overly protective of The Well Marbled King of Boxing.

I can understand that. I think my comments were a bit strong. The older I have got, the more sensitive I have become to head head shots and the risk of damage. It didn't seem to register with me at all when I was younger. Now, to quote Tony Bellew, I just want everyone to get home safely. I think Ruiz is a hard night at the office for anyone. Holyfield said that he has the quickest hands of anyone he has faced. And he got hit with some belters from Joshua to get knocked down, and got straight back up and won.

The hardest shots TFKoB took were after he got up from the KD. That was the difference. Almost everyone else on Earth gets stopped before AJ gets clipped. His beard is akin to iron.
