I enjoyed the podcast but I can’t understand people who come away after listening to that thinking “what lovely manners he has!” They’re the same people that go on about Peter Fury having “cast iron principals”.

There is one absolutely true story of the Golden Age of Boxing 1931 - 1941 of lightweight Champions who were all controlled by Uncle Mike Jacobs in New York. Tony Canzoneri, Henry Armstrong, Lou Amber's, Lew Jenkins, Fritzie Zivic and their # 1 nemesis who threatened all of Jacobs house Champions, DAVEY DAY. If you care to learn what it was like fighting in that period, go to Ebay (you don't have to bid on anything) put in search "Henry Armstrong and Davey Day"
than you'll see a picture of Davey Day the assassin with manger arriving in NY to fight Pedro Montanez. You can read the entire story in the description of the lot. You can ALSO GO TO THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS link and put in Nelson Algren renown American writer "INDUSTRIAL FOLKLORE OF CHICAGO" complete interview with Davey Day after his fight with Henry Armstrong 8 pages. This is a documented History of a Great Fighter, enjoy.

Actually , i just got with the times and googled it , just put the name in and it came up , Also told me theres apps for my phone , so would'nt mind listening to these when i'm driving , but there seems to be loads of apps available , what app should i download to get the life stories anyone know , its a samsung
Download the Podcasts app if you’ve got an iPhone. It’s as simple as that. Podcasts are great.

Edit:  sorry you explicitly say you have a Samsung. I don’t know about that one. Anyway figure it out as the podcast world is a very interesting one :TU:
If you have an Android phone just get the Google Podcasts app (it's free from their app store). You can then download and subscribe to podcasts to your heart's content.

Done, in 30 seconds. As the man says, open the app store, type Google Podcasts, install, open app, then search Trix Dixon, full list of all podcasts will be presented.

I have watched many podcasts on youtube, like Joe Rogan for example, but i have never listened to a podcast without the video aspect. I'm listening to the Calzaghe podcast now, what i instantly appreciate is the podcast continues to run while i do other things on my phone, like type this post here. Thats not possible with YouTube.

I travel a lot for my work, so will be looking to get into these podcasts while on the road.

Thanks for sharing :TU:

I sometimes contribute to the British Boxing Talk podcast, and their sister website, boxingmedia.uk

I love Tris' podcast, and the Macklin's Take podcast is also very good.

Every boxing podcast wants to get the same people on to tell their stories. I think podcasts are to an extent only as good as their guests, and obviously the higher a profile you have as a host the more amenable your guests will be to appearing.

I guess the point I'm getting at is that other podcasts not getting the same guests is not for the want of trying.

Listened to the Kevin Mitchell one on the way home.

Sounded like it was recorded in a pub, was it the poor sound or was he slurring a little?

I listened to the Colin Hart one over the weekend too, never been a huge fan but what a career that bloke had, his stories were amazing.

Anyone know anything about the interview he said where Tyson basically admitted to being raped in? Never heard anything about that before.

That’s the one drawback of the series - some of the interviews have so much background noise that it’s difficult to make out what the boxers are saying. I usually enjoy hearing a bit of background in an interview, makes it more atmospheric and personal, but not so much that it’s detrimental to the content.

Have you heard the one I mean? I’m interested what people thought of his speech, he seemed a little slurry to me.

No haven’t heard the Mitchell one yet, I have a massive podcast backlog atm. Maybe I’ll listen to it tomorrow and will report back if I do.

It’s only short, less than an hour.

He seemed happier about his career than I envisioned. Fair play to him.

If you do, let me know what you think. It wasn’t Hearns level speech slur, but I thought there was some there, could have been the sound.

I listened to the Mitchell one at the weekend. Another great listen and I agree that his speech sounded a bit slurred.

Managed to listen to about half today. He does sound a bit slurred, although he talks quickly and the accent does him no favours. He certainly doesn’t sound ‘punchy’ though, so hopefully nothing to worry about. Enjoyable listen anyway.

Great recommendation :TU:

Listened to the Ian Darke interview so far and some of the Jamie Moore one. Absolutely brilliant.

No comparison to the Costello and Bunce podcasts, who just seem to prattle on about the heavyweights and has become a chore. They had the chance to redeem themselves with an interview special with James Cook and completely fluffed it. Barely any detail of his boxing career !! Maybe Tris could pick this one up and do the job properly.

Tris really gets the most out of his subjects and looking forward to finishing the Moore podcast and working my way through a lot more.
