Canelo vs Kov
Re: Canelo vs Kov
I‘m not convinced this match gets made. Why put Saul in at LH? He‘s not an LH and has other options.

He wants it apparently, lots of people think Kov is basically just a weak man there for the taking now, maybe Canelo agrees with them

All about getting another Title at another weight for his legacy.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 16:19 He wants it apparently, lots of people think Kov is basically just a weak man there for the taking now, maybe Canelo agrees with them
He’s not going to chance Bivol/Beterbiev/Gvozdyk but Kovalev looks pretty worn/shot if Canelo is going to gamble.

body shots can be a sickener on placement alone. If Canelo landed on Kovs chin I'm sure he could take it quite comfortably but to his body I think he will wiltmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 15:44 Why would it be different to a head shot in terms of power moving up?

I wish people would stop saying he's shot, he is nowhere even close to shot.3132DW wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 16:25All about getting another Title at another weight for his legacy.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 16:19 He wants it apparently, lots of people think Kov is basically just a weak man there for the taking now, maybe Canelo agrees with them

Shot should be reserved for fighters who can no longer pull the trigger as their reflexes have gone, or whose balance is compromised, or cannot hold a shot any longer,
Kovalev is on the downside, which you would expect at his age, but he would still beat the vast majority of all other light heavyweights out there

Agree, in his last 2 he arguable shut out a pretty good Eledier Alvarez and then I thought won at least 8 of the rounds vs Yarde. He's vulnerable but people are treating him like he's f@cking 80 years old!

Re: Canelo vs Kov
I think it happens, a lot of knowledgeable people think Kov is going to be run over and I wouldn't be surprised if Canelo shares their confidence. I recall reading it was signed already even.
Re: Canelo vs Kov
Kovlaev has been consistently overlooked, and misjudged throughout his career. People always ignore his Boxing ability and skill no matter how many times he shows it. He's always talked about like a crude brawler instead of what he's always shown himself to be. A Skilled Boxer/Puncher.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 16:35 Agree, in his last 2 he arguable shut out a pretty good Eledier Alvarez and then I thought won at least 8 of the rounds vs Yarde. Ya, I know people who have picked against him 3-4 times that he won and said he wouldn't win a round against Ward, yet are still convinced he's massively overrated rather than them underrating him.

Re: Canelo vs Kov
i think it would look similar to Kovalyov vs Yarde. Kovalyov winning rounds by jab, Canelo will try to land to the body, will hurt him in mid-late rounds, but Kov will knock him out late or win dec (or Canelo by Adelaide's dec).
Re: Canelo vs Kov
Kovalev will handle Canelo. He can use his size and range. Golovkin was able to outjab Canelo. Kovalev KOs people with jabs.

Precisely, people saying he’s shot have no idea what they’re watching.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 16:34I wish people would stop saying he's shot, he is nowhere even close to shot.

Re: Canelo vs Kov
if IT HAPPENED and thats a big if ,,, It would be at Canelo weight , with a strict ruling , Kov is not allowed to eat for 2 weeks prior , and Canelo will see Tyson fury , about getting some Hog meat flew over , and come in looking like a fooking bull

Re: Canelo vs Kov
Yarde hit him with a body shot that dropped the hands of Kov to start the head work that nearly got him out of there.
I agree with you about the fight plan and I think Canelo will work the body more. Hate to say it but I think canelo will win and might even stop Kov with a body shot.
Kov has a great jab though and obvious power so it will be very interesting to watch.
Hope Segey stops him.

Re: Canelo vs Kov
Canelo trying to do a RJJ. Could backfire. But right now, Canelo still in his 20’s and filling out.
Who’s to say he doesn’t weigh around 170 pounds? He doesn’t need to be 175.

Re: Canelo vs Kov
Exactly. Canelo does not need to have the power to wobble Kov with single shots, just keep rattling those body shots in.smiling assassin wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 16:31body shots can be a sickener on placement alone. Canelo has got the best boxing skills of any active fighter in the heavier weights. If a guy like Yarde with 12 amateur fights and only 18 pro fights can hang with Kov - then Canelo will very likely win a very wide points decision.

Re: Canelo vs Kov
When you see the success GGG had with the jab against ginger it's easy to see Kovalev doing similar, he's similar to GGG in that he jabs with good variety of rhythm so it isn't easy to time it IMOjonnyyorkshu wrote: ↑27 Aug 2019, 00:02Yarde hit him with a body shot that dropped the hands of Kov to start the head work that nearly got him out of there.

OTOH ginger is very good at slipping and countering hard to the body.
Re: Canelo vs Kov
It's an interesting fight. There must be gym/training stories of Kov flying about that he's ready for the taking, otherwise Yarde wouldn't have gone to Russia. It's not like Yarde has been the kind of fighter to take risks like that before, is he? I'm glad that arrogance was punished.
Kovalev is a brilliant but vulnerable fighter. Canelo is prime, fresh, has a fantastic body attack and a solid chin. Kov's best chance is to fight with zero emotion (a hard one for Sergey) and just box. He's still weirdly underrated as a boxer. He outboxed Andre Ward for long stretches. He'll probably get robbed if Canelo is still on his feet by the end, but he can retire with the payday that he deserves.
Or Canelo folds him like a deckchair with a body shot.
I'd love to see Canelo beaten up and sparked but they wouldn't take it if they weren't at least 99% sure of the victory. That's why I'm not a fan of the kid. I liked him when he was fighting guys like Lara when he didn't need to, and going for glory against Mayweather, but he's really quite the diva now. I expect him to win.

I don't think he ever lived the life. There's been rumours that he was a drunk for years. If anything, I think he was saying in the Yarde post fight interview that he was living a better life now.

If Canelo was to win and it was a justified win and not a robbery on the cards, I hope people do give him the credit after the fight and not just say that Kovalev was shot.

Re: Canelo vs Kov
Doesn't necessarily mean you'd rather take a left hook to the body from Yarde than you would Canelo. That's possibly Canelos best shot, and the shot that opened the door for Yarde vs Kovalev. Canelo i think takes this fight, shades of Pac Delahoya.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑27 Aug 2019, 07:26You do realise yarde is a much much bigger man than canelo right?tonyevs wrote: ↑27 Aug 2019, 03:27

Canelo stoppage seems logical, but the turn around is very quick if November is the targeted month!
