This would be true apart from one minor detail, the small matter that Tszyu has said he doesn't really want the fight as he has bigger fish to fry. Warren can say that the deal is done until he is blue in the face, until somebody actually speaks to Tszyu and gets a deal done, the fight isn't happening. It's a minor point but one which I'm surprised Warren seems to be overlooking before announcing that the fight is happening. Of course, as mentioned, it gives him the perfect opportunity to indulge in all his hyperbole again if it doesn't happen. "Oh, the deal was done but Tszyu backed out etc etc.".

Exactly KA, but that will be another minor issue which Warren will oevrlook if the non-existant fight doesn't happen. The fact Tszyu never actually agreed the fight will just be conveniently ignored.

Shame because Hatton obviously has the potential to be competitive (although I think Tszyu is just too much for him) but this sort of thing happens all the time with Warren nowadays. Frankly I'm bored with it and, as you say, the situation becomes a laughing stock in the end.

I will believe it when I see them in the ring, and not before. I've been burned too many times.

It could just be Tszyu looking for more money, or it could be the fact that he has no interest in fighting Hatton, until such time as I hear Tszyu saying.

"I am happy with the purse, and the timing, and the venue and I am now in training for the fight" I won't even begin to believe it.

I could have sworn that Showtime's Larkin said he was not interested any more in delayed telecast fights, he wanted live PPV or nothing because otherwise they couldn't do the required numbers.

2million to fight Hatton in MEN (groan)? Thats prob more than Kostya can make in Vegas but still. Im tired of FW, this guy makes me sick whenever I read somethin bout him. I think I hate him more than I ever did DKP or Universum.

I want this fight to happen cuz Hatton is good and its way past time, but why in the UK? I thought whole point was to get this kid outta there once to test him on neutral ground. This whole bidding promoter aspect ruins it for me. I dont think they will get any american interest in that fight if its held in the MEN again on showtime. I think the division will flounder with either man as the undisputed champ. Kostya doesnt fight enough anymore, and Ricky only fights in his backyard.

All i can say to this is i'll see it when it happens...

Although this story seems to be everywhere at the moment, it's still only a verbal agreement, and Tszyu is yet to give it the go ahead.

It's good that it's got this far, but I'm not going to raise my hopes, because much still depends on Kostya Tszyu. Ultimately, it's his decision, if he doesn't want to fight Hatton, then he's not going to be forced into it.

If I was in Warren's shoes I'd have been very reticent concerning the announcement of this fight. IMO, he should have waited until it got down to the contract signing stage. It seems a little unwise to reveal the story at such an early stage.

I heard Tszyu a while back saying that his contract was over with showtime but i wasn't sure if it was after the Mitchell fight or his next fight.

Well I suppose talking about the fight in advance of an actual deal being signed, generates media interest, which in turn may convince Tszyu that

I believe the old fashioned term for it is 'ballyhoo' you've got to a build a fight before it happens, and IF this fight happens, then there will have been a long long run in to this fight by the time it happens.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this, and hoping that they've decided that now is the time for Ricky.

I hope the fight happens and it is all sorted, Because i think that if Tszyu gets offended by either Vlad Warton or Warren he could just as easily hang up the gloves he is a very stubborn man.

He's earned the right to be stubborn in my opinion, it's him who has put in the years of sacrifice and overcome two career threatening injuries to maintain his position at the top of the pile.

Yeh i agree and after saying he only wants big fights i honestley don't think he will fight Hatton, He isn't having many more fights and i think he dosn't want to train for 16 weeks unless it is a big name opponent.

Did you see that DeLaHoya is going back to Welterweight now that would be a hell of a fight.

I just hope my optimism isn't unfounded. It just seems it has too much momentum already not to happen.

Oh yes, and I think De La Hoya sees this as a good career closer, and a little more kudos.

Hard to pick a winner here. I think Kostya is the stronger fighter, but DLH has the better back foot boxing skills.

Seems to be big interest in the fight down under - Tszyu is being bombarded by calls from the Aussie press, asking him if he's signed for the fight...

He says he wants Gatti or Pretty Boy Floyd, but the key to this mess might be, as Warren says,

"Showtime have the rights to Kostya. Gatti and Mayweather are both contracted to HBO TV - he can't fight them."

I am starting to get the feeling that it's all about convincing Tszyu, I reckon his management team will be keen on it, it's good money for a defence at a time when there isn't much else available, against a guy who is a big draw at home...

However, if Tszyu digs his heels in he may just point blank refuse to take it, if as he says money is not the big deal, he may refuse to be convinced.

Tszyu has until August 2005 to decide if he wants to fight Hatton or vacate the belt.
