Yup. Riddick Bowe had a pretty fair inside game.
Yes, Riddick Bowe was devastating on the inside
To answer the question on JT making it at ww. He’ll certainly be a force to be reckoned with but obviously won’t have the same advantages at 147 that he currently holds.
Some tall fighters are/were exceptional on the inside. SRR, Hearns, Sadler, Tito are just a few. When a tall fighter is good on the inside, it gives their opponent something to think about. If you are going to get on the inside on these guys, you’re going to have to go through hell to do it. Hearns was a murderous body puncher. If you went on the inside, you were going to pay for that territory. As long as they don’t stay there too long, it’s an incredibly effective way to keep their opponent honest. Taylor was able to make Prograis think twice about it. He landed hurtful body shots throughout the fight. I thought he fought a brilliant fight. Mixed it up well on the inside and from distance.
Hearns was spectacular at distance. Hagler demolished him when they fought up close (Hagler's fight). Manny Stewart used to talk about his teaching tall fighters to fight tall. Duran was perhaps the greatest inside fighter ever? At distance he was less effective. My criticism of Taylor is he fights a style he doesn't have to and takes shots he doesn't have to. When the body type is tall and long fight tall and long. Short fighters with short arms have no choice but to fight short to earn their advantages.
