Nigel Benn fight with Bika is off
Re: Nigel Benn fight with Bika is off
Apparently gianluca is in talks with another promotor to take over the show I wish him well with that one but if he does find somebody they will need serious money behind them to put a show on at the nec personally I just carnt see anyway that basically a white collar show can do big numbers at the nec it’s too far out of town for any walk up punters

I don't know Lee you have more experience than myself in this but I'm presuming that a bigger event would give dividends to all who take part.
I think it's incidental now really as this show will be pulled by Thursday anyway.

I'm not sure what to make of this.
Was this fight ever really on?

Glad it's off. If Bika was taking the fight seriously Benn would've taken a pasting.

It's very odd that Bika never appeared in a single press conference of any kind.

There is no reason why they can’t just move it out of the arena and put a little show on in one of the halls.spudder56 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2019, 07:38 Apparently gianluca is in talks with another promotor to take over the show I wish him well with that one but if he does find somebody they will need serious money behind them to put a show on at the nec personally I just carnt see anyway that basically a white collar show can do big numbers at the nec it’s too far out of town for any walk up punters
There used to be a martial arts trade show at the NEC and they put on a couple of evening events with K1, Thai boxing etc in a mini arena build from mobile tiered seating, probably 4-500 seater. One actually had a one off boxing match on it with Paul Newby who was an exe karate competitor.
The show will either be moved out of the arena or cancelled completely.

Benn has apparently said he is hanging up his gloves and isn't fighting again.
Colin Hart posted this -
"Distraught Nigel — a former world middleweight and super-middleweight world champion — phoned me at home yesterday. He was at the Matchroom gym and it was just a few minutes after he had decided to pull out of his highly controversial ring return. Last week, while working on the pads, both his shoulders became inflamed and Dr Ali Al-Sabti, a consultant surgeon, gave him a couple of cortisone injections. The problem seemed to have cleared up but yesterday as Benn sparred with Craig Richards, he found he was in agony every time he threw a punch — with either hand. Benn, a born-again Christian, became highly emotional as we spoke and started to cry.
Through the tears, he said: “I never stopped training since the day I retired and I’ve never felt fitter in my life. “I have been dreaming of a one-off fight for years and I’m heartbroken I have had to call it off. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. “I’m now going to forget about ever fighting again."

Money was good on the undercard, especially when you didn't have to sell any tickets.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑29 Oct 2019, 07:05Nobody on the undercard is making any decent moneyMasterG wrote: ↑29 Oct 2019, 03:18 Anyone wanna buy 2 ringside tickets? Cost almost £1000 willing to sell for £30?
Joking aside it's a bit of an embarrassing day when the organisation have to find out that Benn has pulled out from the BBC. I fell sorry for the lads on the undercard who would have made a few quid and now possibly won't make a penny.
You will never fill a stadium without a big name and those ticket prices. You can't expect to pay more than £50 for ringside now, if the show goes ahead. Most people who bought tickets were possibly there just to see Benn and will certainly want a refund.
Like some have said it was doomed from the start and would like to know the real reason Benn pulled out.maybe he got closure elsewhere.
It's good news that Benn has pulled but not so good for those lads who would have made a few quid on the undercard.

He's clearly had his first competitive spar and had a rude awakening. I'm a huge benn fan, but he's made himself look a silly old fool with all this
