I’m 33. It definitely started through video games. Mike Tyson’s punch out and George Foreman’s Game Gear game. I think the first big fight I watched Live was Mike Tyson vs. Peter McNeeley. I was only like 10 when that fight happened though. I totally remember Tyson vs. McNeeley, Bruno, Seldon, Holyfield, that whole post prison comeback trail. Somewhere out there Chavez had a video game too. The Ali movie was another push for me. I started buying classic fights. During this time I was a diehard MMA fan over boxing though. I even attended 2 UFC’s in 2003. I’d say 2006 was the first year I really started taking note in modern fights though. The news of Mayweather / Judah and the corners getting into an altercation. I didn’t know who they were at the time but I remember everyone talking about it. That actually was the incident that caught my eye in modern boxing. I definitely ordered the Barrera/Marquez PPV in early 2007. I think the fight that may have really transitioned me was Mayweather/DeLaHoya. It’s funny, most people thought the fight was a bit of a bummer, but it truly changed my life. I think a big part of it was the 24/7 Series build up. They did a great job at hooking your interest. Mayweather putting a gold medal on the chicken lol. 2006 was the first year I actually started following boxing outside of Ali, Foreman, and Tyson. 2007 the year I started ordering PPVs. I caught on pretty quick. I remember I was super excited for Miguel Cotto vs. Zab Judah which I think was the next big ppv right after Mayweather/DeLaHoya. Kelly Pavlik vs. Edison Miranda another absolute war. Probably the best fight of 2007. 06/07 were def my transition years. Before that though I was a hardcore MMA fan. Like literally my whole life. Ron Van Clief who fought Royce Gracie in UFC 4 was a rival of my dads in karate tournaments in New York in the 1970’s. Used to order all the UFC VHS tapes at blockbuster as a kid lol. Well my dad did. But I used to love watching them with him

Anthony 'The Man' Mundine and Joe Calzaghe. I always liked the way Mundine talked the talk, then walked the walk. He's the first boxer I routinely followed because he represented my personality well, and had so much respect with way he dealt with his critics.

Some years after starting to follow boxing more thoroughly, then boxing myself, I seen a write-up in the paper about Mikkel Kessler being beating by a Welshman, Joe Calzaghe. At the time, Kessler was like this machine fighting at SMW, so I had to look this "Calzaghe" bloke up. I was immediately drawn to his work ethic and charisma, and tried to emulate his style... I failed miserably of course! :maybe:

I follow MMA still a little. I’m just a casual now though. Really only follow the most famous fighters. Back in the day though I used to be a die hard. I used to have them all on DVD. UFC, Pride, Pancrase, King Of The Cage, Super Brawl, HookNShoot, Elite XC, Affliction, Rings, Jungle Fight, Bodog, etc. etc, etc.. I was a die hard back in the day but now just a casual. I remember my favorite fighter used to be Remigijis Morkevicius lol

Felix Trinidad and Oscar Delahoya. That was the first time boxing really caught my imagination as a young teenager. The build up to the fight had me really excited even though I knew little about them at the time. Even though the fight didn't exactly live up to the hype, I was hooked.

I do remember sitting on my grandfather's lap as a child watching boxing, but didn't really follow it.

Being a kid in the Ali era, it seemed he had been champion forever, and from my perspective, that was the truth.

When he finally lost and retired, that's how I knew time was passing and I was growing up.

Joe Calzaghe.

I'd always been into Martial Arts and stuff and used to go down the gym to train boxing as the town I grew up in was fairly rough and I felt like I needed to learn how to fight, but I never really watched boxing. I think I'd only ever watched Eubank-Watson 1 with my Mum's boyfriend's daughter child minding me and Tyson Bruno 2 live at a 'sleepover' night with a group of us staying up late that was more memorable for being the first time I got stoned. I think I was 14 or something?

Then one day I spoke to my Dad on the phone and he told me that they were replaying the Calzaghe-Lacy fight the day after it happened on TV and that I should check it out because it was brilliant, and after that I was hooked.
