if you regard his style you are right. regarding the naked facts he is of course one of the best.

Some people have Johnson a win over ottke.

He definitely had gifts against Brewer, Reid and Larsen.

experts who are not british or american have another neutral and realistic sight on boxers who are no "bombers or blind punchers". Ottke was boxing for the rules and the scorecards, not for the english or american public.

i think id rather see boxers trying to win through out boxing their opponents using boxing ability and superior pugilistic skills. as opposed to one just boxing to work the scorecards

And you're opinion is neutral? Hardly.

what i have heard is that Warren offered Sauerland 1 million euros when the fight takes place in the UK. Ottke got 3 millions each fight so he would be crazy to accept. Sauerland offered 2 millions for Calzaghe but he didn´t want to come over to Germany.

Ottke won vs. Glen Johnson who is the one everybody now is praying for in light heavy. for me Calzaghe was stronger and better than Johnson. but this year Calzaghe wasn´t that convincing. regarding Ottkes performance vs Krajnc (who is known as a hiter like Calzaghe) i would say 55/45 Ottke.
noone offered anyone anything. one said they did, the other responded, and then they just hoped noone would ask any more questions.

i don't know about anyone else, but i would have loved to see gerald mcclellan slaughter ottke. I just wish the careers had overlapped a bit more, not that they would have fought if they had.

Fighter of the year?

I think Miguel Cotto and Winky Wright must be top contenders for that honour.

by Cannibal
Why Cotto? Cotto has looked impressive yes but had no big fights during the year while Barrera had Morales and Ayala and Johnson beat Jones and Tarver. Cotto hasn't fought anywhere near that level this year and has had a comfortable year in quality of opponent in proportion to his talent.

Its got to be Johnson, domestically it has to be Thompson.

Be quite an interesting matchup actually, Johnson v Thompson at Cruiserweight.

A name that hasn't been mentioned yet. Corrales. He's another one who's had a great year. Although not everyone agrees, I had him winning the Casamayor fight by a couple of rounds. Plus he's beaten someone long considered by many to be a (neil r, look away now) p4p top ten fighter, in Freitas.

Skelton or Thompson for British fighter of the year. There's just been too many nothing fights for our biggest names. If I had to make the choice, it would be Skelton. I think he's achieved slightly more than Thompson over the span of the year, those couple of extra fights Skelton's had swayed me I think. Thompson gets fight of the year though, the Rothmann match was a classic.

Good call with Corrales, would probably be my number 2 - Castillo would be not a bad shout as well, regained the title (over the very good Lazcano and then beats Casamayor).

Witter hasn't had a bad year in securing the European title (for the domestic scene), but Thompson beat a top tenner in Rothman and an hot prospect in Haye.

Can't think of two many fighter who have scored wins in the independent world top ten this year (infact, cannot think of any). So its got to be Thompson.

Castillo has had a good year, shame that today in Boxing you only need to win well twice in a year and you are a prospective fighter of the year...oh well that's the game today i suppose.

British only, what about Ricky Hatton? Still unbeaten and still looking superb - as in December.

The phrase "I'll get my coat" comes to mind!
You are right, he looked good in his last fight, but he remains at roughly the same level he was a year ago, and no world title shot. That puts him quite far down the order I reckon. Hopefully he'll be in with a shout next year though.

No world title shot? He's got a world title already.

As for being at the same level as last year, yep he's still the best out there  :TU:

And just to show I'm not just Hatton mad, Danny Williams beat Tyson so deserves a mention.

i ansolutely agree. this is the reason why i am no ottke-fan. i only have respect what he has done in such a short late begon career.

Hatton has only an alphapet-soup-Warren-title, no real world title.

I agree, Hatton is clearly the best lightwelter in Manchester.

Exactly, so there is no need for him to be looking for the likes of Tszyu, Cotto, Harris etc because as a World Title holder they should be coming for him  Actually come to think of it i am sure i have a WBU belt lying around somewhere i use to hold up my work trousers :D

But fighter of the year is anyone is Britain better than Hatton????? I dont think so. And he was unbeaten in 2004. The others aren't British.

WBU might not be the best I admit that. But for some reason a lot of Manchester boxers win them. Hatton Gomez Farnell all were WBU champs in 2004. And out of them Hatton is the best.

The Cat for me was for sure british fighter of the year Rothmann was a top ten fighter, Carl was really being hurt badly and came back with the knockout of the year and then he took some big hits against Haye and came back to stop the kid.
I have to agree with the majority view about Johnson being international fighter of the year.

you Brits should more often mention Johnny Nelson. he is a real champion and the best cruiser at the time.

Your right Bubi but Nelson only fights once a year, but he is a road warrior your right to say that. Still I doubt Don will invite him to his Cruiser tournament, Johnny could win it if he was.
