That’s the difference between mandatory and voluntary. Most voluntary’s never deserve a title shot. They’re hand picked from the top 15 within the orgs.

Guys like Ryder, Whyte for example are like spoilers. No one is gonna chose to fight them, they have to get into a mandatory position.
That is often the case.

Sometimes someone picks a voluntary who ends up giving them hell, Kovalev (Clevery), Beltram (Burns) and obviously Ruiz.

But these are few and far between, more often than not it is an easy option.
I thought Kovalev was a mando

Press Release: Anthony Sims vs. Roamer Angulo Set For Andrade-Keeler Card

Image

Anthony Sims Jr will fight for his first pro title as he meets Roamer Alexis Angulo for the WBO Latino Super-Middleweight title on Thursday January 30 at the Meridian in Island Gardens in Miami, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Sims Jr (20-0 18 KOs) secured three wins in 2019 to further underline his credentials for landing major clashes in 2020, finishing the year with a stoppage win in Chicago in October after going the ten-round distance for the first time in April in California.

WBO #9 Angulo (25-1 22 KOs) represents a stiff test for Sims Jr’s aspirations with the Miami-based Colombian KO artist only having one blemish on his record, coming against Gilberto Ramirez when he challenged the Mexican for his WBO World title in June 2018.

“I’m delighted to be fighting for my first belt in Miami – I plan to make it the first of many,” said Sims Jr. “I’ve been ready for this step up for some time and I will prove that I am ready to mix it with the best with a devastating performance on January 30 – it’s time to bring the funk!”

“I am always well prepared when I step in the ring,”
said Angulo. “On January 30, my opponent will be facing the most difficult test of his young career. I will do everything I can so that he fails. I hope many of my fans and fellow Colombians living in Miami will come out to see me give my all.”

Sims Jr and Angulo clash on an action-packed night of World championship boxing in Miami, topped by WBO World Middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (28-0 17 KOs) defending his crown against Irish challenger Luke Keeler (17-2-1 5 KOs).

Tevin Farmer (30-4-1, 6 KOs) defends his IBF World Super Featherweight title against JoJo Diaz (30-1, 15 KOs), unified World Super Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman (27-2-1, 10 KOs) defending his titles against Murodjon Akhmadaliev (7-0, 6 KOs) and YouTube stars Jake Paul and AnEsonGib clashing on their pro debuts.

Another poor defence for Andrade, even with a title he just cant seem to get the big fights, surely Golovkin was offered this one? Fair do's to Keeler I hope he pulls it off, he was excellent against Arias, had him down a couple times and win well, made it a lot easier than most expected but i'd be surprised if he can give Andrade many problems

Andrade's title reign at Middleweight has been even more boring than it was down at Super Welter, he has a tendency to start off sharp, even score the occasional knockdown like he did last time out against Sulecki but then drift off onto sparring mode like he did last time as well, Keeler will bring the heat but Andrade should prove a level or 2 above, he should be stopping Keeler but knowing him I wouldn't be surprised if he snoozes his way to a landslide, I do fancy Andrade to force a stoppage though

Not surprisingly, WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade is a -7000 favorite over little-known challenger Luke Keeler this Thursday night in the main event of DAZN’s world title tripleheader at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami, Florida. Keeler backers can get +3000.

In the second world title bout, IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer is a -190 narrow favorite over Jojo Diaz (+165). Farmer is making his fifth defense, while Diaz is making his second world title attempt.

Finally, oddsmakers are expecting WBA/IBF unified super bantamweight champion Daniel Roman to lose against Murodjon Akhmadaliev, a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist who has had seven pro fights. Akhmadaliev is a -260 favorite, while the champion Roman is +220. Roman is making the fifth defense of his WBA belt and first defense of his IBF strap.

Andrade needs to perform and get Keller out there by the halfway stage. If Andrade cant get Caleno more than likely he will move up and fight BJS

I knew there was something interesting about this card. 4 of the main 6 boxers are southpaw. I think Akmadelliev at least is right-handed but can never know for sure. Funny how it’s becoming so much more common place.

Got this show on record and will avoid social media etc to watch it Friday night after work - most looking forward to Roman v Akhmadaliev, interesting match up. Would love Keeler to pull off a huge upset, has performed very well recently but Andrade is obviously levels above anyone he has previously faced.

Farmer has taken a bit of stick for some of his recent defences but I do like how active he has remained since becoming champion - I expect Diaz to be his toughest task by far.

The record-setting seven-division titlist did her part to keep the door open for a super fight with World lightweight queen Katie Taylor after stopping Brazil’s Simone de Silva in three rounds Thursday evening at Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami, Florida.

Serrano floored de Silva late in round two and finished off the job in early in round three.

From ESPN

Middleweight world titlist Demetrius Andrade has tried his best to get fellow titleholders Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin and Jermall Charlo to fight him, but they won't even say his name, much less agree to step into the ring with him.

So Andrade has had to just stay busy and keep winning, hoping he will get his shot at a major fight. He continued to hold up his end of the bargain, retaining his 160-pound belt in overwhelmingly dominant fashion as he scored a pair of knockdowns en route to knocking out the overmatched Luke Keeler in the ninth round Thursday night at the Meridian at Island Gardens in Miami, where the card was one of the events put on around Sunday's Super Bowl LIV.

"I felt [my performance] was good," Andrade said. "I know Luke Keeler is a warrior. Today was my day. We felt good. We took him into deep waters and we sunk him."

The fight was the first of a four-fight contract extension between Andrade and promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing that was announced last week, and Andrade kicked it off with a bang.

Former two-time junior middleweight world titlist Andrade (29-0, 18 KOs), 31, of Providence, Rhode Island, looked as though he was going to end his third defense immediately.

He walked to the ring to the Star Wars imperial march music wearing a Darth Vader mask after proclaiming to Keeler all week, "Luke, I am your father,"[/i ] and as soon as the fight began, he pounded Keeler.

Andrade charged right at him and landed a big overhand left to knock Keeler down in the opening seconds. Another left hand sent Keeler into the ropes in a dominating first round.

"I went in there a little delusional thinking to myself, 'I can put him out.' So that's what I did. Try to go in there and put him out, let him know I'm not delusional," Andrade said. "I'm entertaining. You gotta love it, and I come to put on a show all the time."

Andrade, a southpaw, continued to attack in the second round. He landed a long overhand left on the chin, and Keeler went down hard into the ropes with about 15 seconds left in the round. Andrade then landed another left hand and a right uppercut as he closed out the round with Keeler in dire trouble.

Keeler (17-3-1, 5 KOs), 32, of Ireland, managed to stay on his feet in the ensuing rounds, but it was all Andrade, who landed numerous clean punches to the head and body while barely taking anything in return. He is statistically one of boxing's best defensive fighters.

The CompuBox statistics illustrated Andrade's utter dominance. He landed 146 of 385 punches (38%) while Keeler landed just 34 of 298 shots (11%). Andrade also extended his streak to 57 consecutive rounds of holding opponents to fewer than 10 landed punches per round. Keeler's best round came in the eighth, when he connected with eight punches.

Andrade kept looking for one big punch and got sloppy as the fight went on. But Keeler was so ineffective that he could not do anything even when Andrade opened himself up by throwing wild, looping punches.

Keeler, who came into the fight 7-0-1 in his previous eight bouts since 2016 and was coming off his most notable victory -- a 10-round decision against Luis Arias, whom he dropped twice, in August -- resorted to trying to simply hold and grab to survive. But Andrade shook him off and went after him with abandon in the ninth round, when he pummeled Keeler into a stoppage.

Andrade was all over him, landing thudding rights and lefts and a right uppercut that did major damage and sent Keeler into the ropes. As Andrade continued teeing off on a defenseless Keeler, referee Telis Assimenios stepped in and stopped the fight at 2 minute, 59 seconds.

With Andrade getting nowhere with an Alvarez or Golovkin fight, he said he is willing to go up to super middleweight for his next fight.

"I'm willing to go up to 168 to fight [titleholder] Billy Joe 'Joke Ass' Saunders in my next fight, and that's what I'm looking to do," Andrade said. "Eddie does have that big [check]book. Offer Billy Joe Saunders that big check so I can whup his ass, too."

Andrade was supposed to challenge England's Saunders (29-0, 14 KOs) for his middleweight world title in October 2018, but the fight was canceled when Saunders tested positive for a banned substance and subsequently moved up in weight. Andrade wound up winning the belt Saunders vacated before he would have been stripped. Now Saunders is also promoted by Hearn, so it would be an easy fight to make if Saunders is willing -- although he is in the running for a spring fight with Alvarez.

Andrade also would like to see if there is a chance he can lure Charlo (30-0, 22 KOs) into the ring to unify their two belts.

Hearn offered Charlo, who is with Premier Boxing Champions but not signed to a promoter, $7 million to fight Andrade as a one-off bout or as the first fight of a longer deal -- Charlo's choice -- but couldn't get him to take what would be the biggest payday of his career (by millions).

"Eddie Hearn said he sent the offer and he didn't get no response," Andrade said. "They want to send an offer this way, we will respond. Let's get it on.

"Stay tuned -- the boogeyman is here."
