Completely agree, it's the one thing that really annoys me about Joshua.
I recognize there are too many belts, but you can't be holding 4 belts and fight once every 6-9 months like he does.

He should be getting stripped by the WBO, and let a champion who is going to defend with some regularity be a title holder.

Yeah and Instanbul seems like a crazy choice for this fight, given what happens when British football fans travel there.

What top fighters fight more than twice a year?

I don’t know about you guys, but I consider the following as top fighters who have fought three times per year during 2019 or the previous year: Juan Francisco Estrada, Josh Taylor, Oscar Valdez, Miguel Berchelt, Kosei Tanaka and Teofimo Lopez.

This is a recent trend though seemingly started by the Klitschko's.
And during their reign people started moving away from boxing.

If you look at the top heavies pre 2000 they fought closer to once in every 4 to 5 months.

I just feel this relatively recent trend of getting away with not fighting for anywhere up to 9 months needs to be jumped on if the champion isn't injured.

Btw I recognize Wilder did this too, but at least he only has one of the belts.

It'll have to be earlier than the 1990's because the likes of Holyfield, Tyson, Bowe, Mercer, Lewis, Foreman & Moorer didn't compete more than twice per year.

The 1980's and earlier might be more relevant to your claim.

Well i wouldn't say you are wrong about twice
every year, but Lewis frequently fought every 5 months and sometimes even less, as did Bowe, Moorer and Tyson. So sometimes the fewer months resulted in 3 fights in a calendar year.
For example Lewis had 5 WBC title fights in an 18 month period at one point.

Foreman was very active at the start of the 90s, but you got to give him some slack as he is the oldest ever Hvy world champion.

Though I agree it seems Hollyfield didn't like fighting as frequently, and often longer gaps for the others coincided with Hollyfield fights. So perhaps I spoke too soon about the Klitschko's and Hollyfield was to blame. :TU:

Then again Hollyfield had heart problems, so I still don't think we should let young/prime Joshua get off the hook so lightly

They are top boxers but they are not stars drawing a lot of money.

From the January 1st 1993 until the 31st December 1999, Lennox Lewis competed in 15 bouts over a seven year period, which equates to 2.1 fights per year.

From the January 1st 1991 until the 31st December 1999, Mike Tyson competed in 9 bouts over a nine year period, which equates to one fight per year.

From the January 1st 1994 until the 31st December 1999, Michael Moorer competed in 7 bouts over a six year period, which equates to 1.2 fight per year.

From the January 1st 1993 until the 31st December 1999, Riddick Bowe competed in 9 bouts over a seven year period, which equates to 1.3 fights per year.

Of course, there are anomalous periods (such as at the start of that decade, due to being contenders) when some of these guys competed more often, for a variety of reasons,.

I agree, they aren't stars.

However, we both agree they are top boxers and you did only question whether any "top boxers" typically competed more than twice per year.

What's with all the fights in the Middle East? Dude gonna fight in Yemen, Jordan and Iraq next?

Too bad it's not Bald Bull. He'd probably get taken out in the 1st round with a well timed body shot, but he could always bull that upset with his Bull Charge :OhYes:
