Sounds like a lot of b0ll0cks to raise Crawford's profile.
He might want to fight McGregor in a boxing match because of the money he'll get for an easy fight, but there's no way he'll participate in an MMA bout if he is still serious about his boxing career.
I think Crawford would do it in a second.

He has a wrestling background though.
What does that even mean ? Conor has a boxing background but he can’t box, just because Bud did a bit of wrestling a million years ago that doesn’t prepare him for MMA, get a grip folks

Bob Arum previously claimed the Mayweather-McGregor bout was “stupid and a “circus fight”, but if the public “falls for it, then so be it”. He said it wasn’t even a real “contest” and he wasn’t willing see it.
Flash forward 2½ years later, and now Bob Arum is claiming he is planning to pit an “elite boxer”, like Crawford, against an “elite MMA guy in McGregor”, because it would be “interesting and something the public would want to see”.
All promoters chat shít. They’re
against anything if it’s not making THEM money. But if that same thing makes them money then they’re all for it.
Good posts, both of you.
Nailed it.
Personally, I have no interest in it.
Crawford needs better
boxing opponents, not side shows. He is on the verge of creating a legacy as a boxer, father time is gonna get him soon, no time to waste on this sort of crap.

If he had two fights with McGregor this year he'd have 10 times the money and profile he has now. I'm with you in principal, but this is about the only way to see those fights we want.

Spot on.
It might be feasible to even say that father time is in Crawford's basement waiting to come up into his kitchen as he looked less than imperious last time out.
Obviously I am only speculating, but like you have said, he absolutely needs better boxing opponents.
There's a phenomenal welterweight division right now and he could be ruling it and if he did, his legacy would be undisputable.

Wrestlers make great street fighters, and what street fighting wrestlers were doing years ago evolved into what is now MMA.
Crawford grew up in about the toughest neighborhood Omaha has. In countless street fights, was a wrestler, and if he didn't straighten up after being shot, he wouldn't be here today. He's about as tough as they come, and outside of a kick upside the head he doesn't see coming, I think he beats McGregor in both contests.

You're naive. Some street fights literally mean f@ck all when it comes to facing world class MMA opponents.
At high level MMA even a lot of the strikers win grappling tourneys or have advanced ranks in bjj or stuff. Doing a 'bit' of wrestling decades ago is pretty much irrelevant
Watch McGregor vs the Hyland guy, vs a boxer suddenly even Conor looks like a grappling wiz. Boxing fans still don't have enough respect for the skill of mma pros

yup maybe in the earlier days of mma "some high school" wrestling and elite boxing could've gone some ways but the way mma is evolved now it's biased and unrealistic to think Crawford stands a chance.(Just like it is stupid to think any mma fighter stands a chance vs crawford in boxing) As far as we know Crawford has 0 BJJ/submission experience and doesn't have any experience defending knees leg kicks, elbows, thai clinch etc. It's apples to oranges. Even elite wrestlers must learn these things to be successful in mma and Crawford only had "some high school wrestling"
This isn't to say a top level athlete like Crawford couldn't cross-over now train mma for a while, start from the bottom and work his way up and beat some people in mma. This would never happen because he can make way more money boxing than by starting all over in mma. And to automatically throw him in with Conor from the start and think he stands a chance in mma is absurd. I really doubt this happens though.

A Crawford MMA fight is interesting, significantly less so is a Crawford Conor boxing fight.
The more I think about it the less the whole thing makes commercial sense. Conor has better options. I'm probably stating the obvious and it's a 'duh' moment - Arum is just using Conors name to boost Crawford at this time. That's what promoters do. I'm sure Crawford would be willing however I don't see this as serious.

No comment other than I think this is the first time I've ever seen a comment like "He got tough in the mean streets of Nebraska"
Just seems amusing.
I'd rather see Crawford fight McGregor in Boxing and MMA rather than just fighting mandatories and everyone that's not someone we've heard of in a stacked Welterweight division. I mean hell at least Conor fights would be high profile fights.
Don't seem like he's getting Porter/Spence/Garcia/Pac anytime soon.

I know Nebraska doesn't sound like a tough place. Parts of Omaha might surprise you though.
He also said this when he heard Khan was thinking about fighting McGregor in 2016;
"Actually I did both before," Crawford said. "I used to wrestle. I'm currently boxing, so I look at it as a boxer going to the Octagon is going to lose. You don't have any background in jiu-jitsu or wrestling and he's not a top jiu-jitsu [practitioner] or wrestler. Same as an MMA fighter. If he goes into a boxing ring, he [doesn't] have the experience in the boxing ring or the tools to be able to box 12 rounds. He's going to lose."
The follow-up question centered around whether or not he'd entertain the idea of competing against an MMA fighter because of his wrestling background.
"Not at all, I'm not even thinking about it," Crawford said. "They don't even get paid enough. They get paid less than us and they get broken bones, broken toes, and they go through a lot."
Here is one of the articles I read on TC. Maybe the money makes it worth it now.

Unless it was 9 figures or a high 8 figures I wouldn't do it, and the UFC payday would have to be as good as the Boxing one.
