I think Wilder has been too carefully managed. If he were to fight more top ten contenders, and not just older faded guys like Ortiz, it would raise his popularity.
Haymon has kept Wilder away from Joshua and other prime top ten heavyweights like Whyte and Parker. But with his power, Wilder has a good chance against anyone and doesn't need to be matched so cautiously.

I guess they wanted to bank on sure things, at least until he was established. Wilder's power would have been a double edged sword. Had Parker or Whyte beaten him, with no rematch clause in place, I think Wilder would have had no chance of getting a voluntary title shot for any of the belts.

Yes they did, just because a fight doesn't bang out the ppv numbers doesn't mean it wasn't a highly anticipated contest.

Heck yes. Finkel and Haymon have also done a fine Job navigating around drug tests and pushing matches back for Wilder to catch guys on their decline. A+ job
