Re: Unlucky fighters...
John McDermott - a few really bad decisions cost him some very decent paydays which he deserved!!
Re: Unlucky fighters...
David Tua I've always felt bad for.
Knocked out three future world champions during his prime, but only got one shot himself against the last great heavyweight, Lewis. Then just when the title had splintered, with Ibeabuchi out of the way, he loses form completely. His old KO victims are suddenly picking up belts everywhere and he just can't get back to that level.
Horrible timing (and probably bad management too). I always wonder if he'd started just a few years later.

Re: Unlucky fighters...
Hembrick missed the bus. I mean who does that! There was surely a reason for it so he was unlucky.
Re: Unlucky fighters...
I think Tua is skint as well yeah, got ripped off by management and then the money was swallowed up by time and court costs, something like that.dookus wrote: ↑29 Mar 2020, 18:17 David Tua I've always felt bad for.

And wasn't allowed to fight while it was getting sorted out
Re: Unlucky fighters...
I always think of Alan Rudkin. Unlucky? Just highly unfortunate to fight in an era of 2 world titles and quality operators like
Fighting Harada
Lionel Rose
Ruben Olivares
holding the belts.
Randall is an odd one, he was on the cusp of a title shot after losing to Rosario and drawing with Pendleton and then got iced by Primo Ramos. He signed (?) with King and went on a long unbeaten run and is then fed to Chavez, who few expected him to beat. Extremely unlucky in the rematch and then again in the rematch with Coggi (in fact he had a pretty tough 94-96) and then he's done. Don't know if the drugs precipitated that or not.
Sort of had a similar career to Vince Phillips, who I don't think was unlucky, he made the most of talent/skill and had some good wins and his career imploded as well. Again, drugs in the mix.

Re: Unlucky fighters...
Wayne Alexander was a bit unlucky he got a title shot at 24 hours notice vs the very underrated Harry Simon then lost twice to guys he was expected to beat easily ,and for such an exciting fighter he was always stuck as chief support not too of the bill .
Re: Unlucky fighters...
I'm sure he was still fighting not that long ago? Wasn't he a bit of a screwball away from the ring?paddy chavez wrote: ↑30 Mar 2020, 09:06 Wayne Alexander was a bit unlucky he got a title shot at 24 hours notice vs the very underrated Harry Simon then lost twice to guys he was expected to beat easily ,and for such an exciting fighter he was always stuck as chief support not too of the bill .

Henry Akinwande having his fight cancelled against Holyfield. I think Henry on points would have led to some good opportunities. Hide v Morrison was another missed chance. I'd think Mercer would have done Bruno though.
Re: Unlucky fighters...
What about that French dude Mimoune who got royally fukked over in the golden contract! On the verge of a life changing deal and had his pants pulled down!
Re: Unlucky fighters...
Badou Jack was unlucky. How many high profile draws that arguably should have been wins did that guy have?
Mauricio Herrera was robbed against Danny Garcia. What would have happened to his career after that if there had been honest judging in play?

Loma is unlucky to have that loss.

Re: Unlucky fighters...
I thought Salido won that pretty clearly myself, close but clear. Loma came into it well late and hurt him the final round, but he was tentative and nervous early on. I guess he also took a sh!tload of lowblows too though, so I'll give you that he was unlikely that not even a point was taken somehow
Sounds like Salido has been a bit of an alcholic violent mess outside the ring since retiring

Hiroyuki Sakamoto
His entire life is unfortunate (hell of a story though and what he's done in later life is worthy of a read)

Re: Unlucky fighters...
I'd say John Ryder was very unlucky recently .
Re: Unlucky fighters...
Lenny Daws. Always had to go above and beyond to get results and got shafted in his last attempt at the EBU title.
I like the Oba Carr shout
A different world champ each time he challenged for the title and he could have been a 3 time champion ! He certainly had the ability, but came up against 3 formidable champions.
Jamie Moore was unlucky not to get a world title shot when you look at some others who did get a crack.
Herol Graham would have completely flummoxed Doug DeWitt. Mike McCallum hated every minute of his fight with Graham, then went on to crush Watson.

Re: Unlucky fighters...
Aye same mate. It still pisses me off just thinking about it
Re: Unlucky fighters...
Do you mean the fight that he got DQ'd and it was an accidental head clash? That was bullsh1t! He also got jobbed in an attempt in Italy.THEBUTCH wrote: ↑31 Mar 2020, 18:44 Lenny Daws. Always had to go above and beyond to get results and got shafted in his last attempt at the EBU title.

The Italian fight I think there was some weird stuff in the Itlaians corner or something, but the fight itself I'm not sure he was robbed in terms of judging
