I guess I'll give Joe the pass on the level of opponent considering COVID and all the time he's been out of the ring. Mid to late stoppage.

Parker vs. Fa: Discussions Continue To Work Out Financial Details

Parker’s manager, David Higgins, has explained that they are still trying to work out the financial aspects of the deal, but the two sides are getting closer.

If a deal is reached, Queenstown Events Centre and Dunedin’s indoor Forsyth Barr Stadium could be in play to host the fight. And Auckland venues would be explored as well.

“It's by no means confirmed, but it's closer. There’s a few things it hinges on. One is closing the monetary gap between the Parker side and the Fa side. There's still a bit of dispute over the money, but that being said it's getting a bit closer,” Higgins said to Stuff.

“We've had discussions with the good people of Queenstown, lovely place. We'd love to have a fight there at some point, so that's a possibility. Auckland is always a possibility. We're open-minded. There's a roof on the stadium in Dunedin, so Dunedin could be a wildcard option too with the capacity and the roof.”

Parker was in action back in February in Texas, when he stopped Shawndell Winters. Fa had his last bout in November when he defeated Devin Vargas.

Higgins believes the heavyweight clash would be bigger than the 2009 showdown between David Tua and Shane Cameron.

“This is up there because it's got those magic ingredients. It's got two stars. Junior Fa is now becoming a household name. Joseph Parker is a household name. You've got parochialism. A Kiwi of Tongan descent (Fa) versus a Kiwi of Samoan descent (Parker). People will pick their sides," Higgins said.

“It's competitive. Some people think Junior Fa can beat Joseph, he is unbeaten. Then Joseph Parker obviously has his fans. Then you've got credibility in that they're both ranked top 10 in the world. It would be a massive match-up, probably the biggest this country has seen because it's unprecedented and never before have we had two heavyweights in their prime, both ranked in the top 10 in the world in the WBO."

I don't mind it really, if Fa's as mediocre as I think then perhaps Joe kicking his ass will cull him out

It's a good fight for Parker - it will be very big in NZ, will be a nice little earner and generate interest.

Personally I'd far rather watch Fa fight Hemi Ahio or Demsey McKean.

Unlikely to happen I know even without Covid or Hemi being currently half a world away.

Parker Says He's "Ready To Go" - Waits on Junior Fa To Take Deal

"We fought four times in the amateurs and are 2-2, but things have changed a lot," Parker tells The AM Show. "The level of opposition I have fought is of a much higher calibre.

"Hopefully we can make a deal. I think it will happen - we have given them what they've asked for. If they don't want to sign, then we are prepared to walk away and fight someone else who is keen to fight - we are talking about a lot of money. I am ready to go. I have been training twice a day. I just want to get back in the ring and give someone a beating."

"David [Higgins] has tried his best to get top opponents," Parker tells The AM Show.

"People say the quality of my last two opponents has been poor, but we have been trying to fight top-10 guys since my loss to Dillian Whyte - who I have been trying to get a rematch with. It is hard, because those top guys see me as high risk with low reward, so they would rather take fights that are low risk."

That last sentence tells us everything that's wrong with boxing.

It's not a sport, it's a murky business that's only interested in routinely exploiting its fanbase with exaggerated promises of entertainment.

Why is this acceptable for boxing fans? Why is it still regarded as a sport, when there's very little true sporting element left?

This kind of nonsense is a threat to any remaining validity remaining in boxing.

The heart of its corruption.

If there is a way out of this mess, it could be more organised boxing tournaments.

Make boxing a real legitimate sport again - instead of merely a pantomimed money spinner for various concerned parties who can dilly dally to their hearts content picking and choosing (and avoiding) til kingdom come.

As things stand, any would be boxer needs to take up drama lessons as much as any boxing ones. Throwback fighters like Joseph Parker are unlikely to get a fair crack of the whip as things currently stand.

There's probably dozens and dozens of talented boxers on the outside who can't get any chance without taking almost insane risks or signing up with one of the devils...

Joseph Parker, Junior Fa Now in Dispute Over Brand of Gloves

After weeks of negotiations, a deal appeared to be very close to being finalized for a New Zealand heavyweight grudge match between former WBO world champion Joseph Parker and unbeaten contender Junior Fa.

The two sides have been going back and forth over the financial terms - which mainly were an issue for Fa, who felt he was being short-changed on the money.

But now a new dispute has erupted, with the two sides unable to agree on the brand of gloves to be worn by both boxers.

At the moment, neither is willing to budge on the subject and the fight could fall apart on the matter.

Parker's team are looking to use a brand that he's always worn.

"It's a deal breaker," Parker's manager David Higgins tells Newshub.

"It'd be like the world cup final handing out everyone a Kiwi cricket bat and saying 'here you go boys, we're all using the same plastic bat'.

"That's maybe how UFC works. But it's not how boxing works… we're not going to change the norms and the conventions and the history of boxing to please the Junior Fa camp."

While Fa's camp want both fighters to wear the same gloves.

"Gloves are one of those battlegrounds of fairness," says Fa's manager Mark Keddell.

"We think it's pretty fair. I think the rest of the NZ public would think it's pretty fair, wouldn't they?

"If you want to have a Twenty20 match, Fa v Parker, happy days. Use a different bat… but we're talking about a boxing fight, aren't we?

"Everything's really even [in the UFC]. It pits two men against each other and that's what we want."

The fight is being targeted for the fall, in what would be the biggest available fight for both boxers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Basically, Fa and/or his team do not want the fight.

Why is it, with fights down under, there's always this crappy disputes about A or B side, purse splits, revenue percentages, who walks out first, gloves..

Parker is the one giving Fa AND his team, this pay day.

If Fa's team want them both to wear the same gloves, why don't they wear the gloves that Parker wants to wear? Parker's team should put a final offer on the table and give them a short deadline and move on permanently if they don't agree to it. Fa will fade into obscurity without Parker whereas Parker has an opportunity to get himself into another title shot within a couple of years with or without Fa.

Joseph Parker vs. Junior Fa Agreement is Reportedly Close

A deal is reportedly now close for a grudge fight between New Zealand heavyweight rivals Joseph Parker and Junior Fa, according to NewsHub.

The two boxers collided four times in the amateurs, with each man picking up two wins.

While the contest was initially targeted for a date in October, the two sides are now working towards a date in December.

The two boxers have overcome their disagreements when it came to money.

And there appears to be some issues with both boxers agreeing on the brand of gloves both will use.

Fa, an undefeated contender, has never faced a boxer on the level of Parker, a former WBO world champion with a clear edge in experience.

But, Fa has a game plan in mind with certain tactics that he intends to execute to secure the win.

"I just played the game smart and moved, because I know Joe is a big puncher and he can also take a punch, so there is no point in me standing there with him," Fa said. "I just moved around, stuck behind my jab, shifted around him for the whole fight.

"We're going into the finer details, making sure there is no grey area in the contract. We just want to make sure everything is airtight, so it's me versus him. I think the first time we fought was back in 2009. The last time we fought was in 2012, before the Olympic trials.

"COVID had different plans that put away a few fights that I had planned for this year to build myself up, but we're here now, I've got to make the best of it. I want to train as hard as I can and then give myself the best chance to beat Joseph Parker. I know a lot of eyes are on me. I've got to get down and do the work, and put on a great performance."

Joseph Parker v Junior Fa heavyweight clash officially on

There's been a major breakthrough in negotiations for a Kiwi heavyweight boxing showdown between Joseph Parker and Junior Fa.

The two camps have been engaged in talks for more than six months, with disagreements over respective fight purses and glove brands contributing to a lengthy negotiation period.

But late Monday, Parker's manager David Higgins told Newshub that terms have been agreed and the fight has officially been green lit.

"We've finally agreed terms for Joseph Parker to fight Junior Fa, so the fight is on," Higgins confirmed.

"This is the biggest boxing event in NZ history."

Newshub understands the bout will take place in Auckland in December.

"I'm so pleased to see Auckland is going to back to level 1 and it's so nice to confirm this great event can happen on he same day," Higgins added,

Higgins admitted that each party has compromised on certain areas in order to make the fight a reality.

"It's been a battle of attrition, with each side giving concessions either way, and then also the realisation there there are no other options on the way in the pandemic," he said.

"Common sense prevailed and we just contractually wrote up a detailed process around the gloves, so our side was happy and that their side was happy.

"So, we're finally there... Parker v Fa is on."

More details will be revealed at a media conference on Tuesday.

Fa and Parker split two wins apiece in amateur ranks, with the former winning the first and fourth encounters, but their professional careers have taken completely different routes, with Parker claiming a WBO world title and Fa's health issues stalling his progress.

Last month, Parker slipped down the WBO heavyweight rankings to third, while Fa sits sixth.

Parker last fought back in February, when he scored a technical knockout win against American Shawndell Winters in Texas.

Meanwhile, Fa earned a unanimous decision win over Devin Vargas in November to maintain his undefeated 19-0 record.

Press Release

Joseph Parker and Junior Fa will clash in the biggest fight in New Zealand boxing history, live on DAZN from Spark Arena, Auckland, on Friday December 11 (NZ time).

Former WBO World Heavyweight ruler Parker (27-2 21 KOs) is ranked #3 with the WBO and is plotting his return to World champion status having stopped Shawndell Winters in five rounds in his last outing in Dallas in February.

Unbeaten Fa (19-0 10 KOs) is hot on Parker’s heels in the WBO rankings at number six and the 30 year old will be determined to come out on top in the biggest fight of his life with huge stakes on the table. The South Auckland fighters are aiming for a shot at the WBO World title and the winner of this highly anticipated bout will put them on a trajectory for a huge 2021.

“This is going to be war,” said Eddie Hearn. “We’re looking forward to co-promoting our first event in New Zealand with David Higgins and Duco. There’s plenty of needle with the amateur rivalry and there’s national pride at stake. A win over Fa will catapult Joe back into World Title contention.”

“Given the challenges facing major sporting events around the globe right now, getting this fight over the line is absolutely huge, and we are grateful to our partners Matchroom for their backing to make this happen” said Parker’s manager and Duco’s founder and Director David Higgins. “With both boxers inside the WBO top 10 world rankings and in their prime, this is undeniably New Zealand’s fight of the century.”

The match-up will be a mouth-watering prospect for Kiwi boxing fans and for all sports fans starved of big events. The demand for a Heavyweight bout of this stature is enormous and the pay-per-view audience is expected to reflect that. With so much at stake for both fighters and the previous history of Parker and Fa winning two bouts each in their amateur days, commentators are already talking about the bout being an instant classic with fans standing firmly on both sides of the ring.

“I’ve always believed that Junior Fa had the ability to become a World champion and, on December 11, he’ll have the opportunity to prove that against a former Heavyweight champion and amateur rival, in countryman Joseph Parker,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Not only is this matchup one of the biggest fights in New Zealand history, it has high significance on the Heavyweight landscape worldwide, with the winner closing in on a world title shot. With a win, Junior can become a New Zealand sports superstar and a worldwide boxing star in one night. I’m proud to co-promote this historic fight card with David Higgins’ Duco Events and Matchroom."

“Parker’s an Auckland born Samoan, Fa an Auckland born Tongan; the fight is taking place in the largest Polynesian city in the world; both fighters are close to and desperate for a title shot; they have a split history in amateur fights, and they are both members of the same Mormon Church. This fight already has everything,” said Higgins.

In a second huge announcement, Events company Duco Events, Spark Sport and media partner New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) today also announced a New Zealand first three-way partnership to finally get Parker and Fa in the ring.

“The Parker Fa match-up sits perfectly with Spark Sport’s purpose to deliver premium live and on-demand sports to a wide-reaching audience. The arrangement between Spark Sport, Duco Events, NZME and the support of presenting partner Stonewood Homes is a great example of not just sitting back and waiting for a sport to come to you, instead we’ve all got together and made it happen. This will be our second major pay-per-view event after we streamed the Whyte Povetkin bout back in August, so we’re excited to bring this Kiwi based event to New Zealand as the exclusive broadcaster,” said Head of Spark Sport, Jeff Latch.

Getting the Parker and Fa fight over the line has taken more than eight months of negotiations with the boxers, yet the innovative partnership between Duco Events, Spark Sport, NZME, with the support of presenting partner Stonewood Homes, was pulled together in less than eight weeks, demonstrating the enthusiasm to change the way sport is delivered and promoted in New Zealand, while also ensuring the event took place this year and on Kiwi soil.

“It’s been a tough year for New Zealand sports fans with so little in the way of world class live sporting events since Covid-19 hit. For NZME this event encapsulates why we are committed to delivering the very best content to our audiences and advertisers, keeping Kiwis in the know. We are proud to support a spectacle like this, alongside Spark Sport and Duco, to bring sport back to a big arena where it deserves to be,” said NZME Chief Revenue Officer Paul Hancox.

The Heavyweight boxing match-up also marks the return of large-scale marquee events, with 9,000 expected to fill-out Auckland’s Spark Arena for the December 11 event.

“Events companies have been absolutely smashed by the pandemic and we’re really proud that our collaboration with Spark Sport, NZME and the support of Stonewood Homes plus our global collaboration with Matchroom and Di Bella has given us the opportunity to let New Zealanders get back to experiencing the excitement, the drama and the fun that an event like this creates,” said Duco’s Higgins.

“We would really like to thank and acknowledge Stonewood Homes for their support of this event and their contribution to the re-build of not only the events industry but also the local economy who all benefit from an event which attracts visitors and locals to spend within the region,” said Higgins. “Without key sponsorship relationships, events such as Stonewood Homes, Joseph Parker v Junior Fa would not get off the ground.”

Stonewood Homes has built nearly 7,000 homes for Kiwi families since 1987. “We are proud to support world-class athletes Joseph Parker and Junior Fa, while helping rebuild New Zealand’s economy by getting events going again,” said Managing Director John Chow. Stonewood Homes Joseph Parker vs Junior Fa, Friday 11th December 2020 Spark Arena, Auckland New Zealand.

Tickets from $69 + fees at www.ticketmaster.co.nz. Corporate Hospitality available at www.ducoevents.com.

Pay-per-view will be priced on a tiered model with super early bird pricing of $39.99 available from today increasing to an early bird price of $49.99 on 27th October and then reverting to the final pay-per-view cost of $59.99 for viewers who purchase the day before or the same day as the fight (10th and 11th of December).

Joseph Parker on Junior Fa: This Fight is Make or Break For Me

Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is not taking any chances in his upcoming clash with undefeated New Zealand rival Junior Fa. (photo by photosport)

The two boxers will collide, with a lot on the line, on December 11 in Auckland.

After suffering back to back defeats to Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, Parker has been able to reclaim a top spot in the WBO rankings - at number three. And Fa is sitting at number six in the WBO's ranks.

The two rivals met four times in the amateur ranks, with each boxer securing two wins.

Their collision in the pro ranks will be the tiebreaker.

Should Fa win the bout, Parker's career will be in shambles.

“I think this fight is pretty much make or break for me,” Parker told Stuff.

“People are saying there’s a lot of pressure and big risk, and they are right. I’ve had two losses and if I lose another one it will be very hard to climb back to the top. People will be saying, ‘why is he fighting, he has already had his time’.

“If Junior Fa loses, he can come back having just had one loss to a former champion. So there is a lot of risk from our side but in saying that I love pressure and I love the risk factor of boxing. There was no point sitting back waiting a year or even two years to get a big fight. I said to David (Higgins, manager) and Kevin (Barry, trainer) I’m hungry for a fight, I don’t care who it is. So everyone was on board and finally we’ve made it happen.”

While Parker is widely viewed as a big favorite to win the fight, he won't be overlooking Fa in any way.

“Even though my record shows my opponents have been a better class, you can’t take anything lightly. It’s the heavyweight game, anything can happen. Look at Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin recently. Povetkin was getting owned and then one punch took Dillian apart,” Parker said.

Kevin Barry on Parker-Fa showdown

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (27-2, 21 KOs) and WBO#6 Junior Fa (19-0, 10 KOs) clashed four times in the amateur ranks winning two each. Parker’s trainer Kevin Barry talks about their rubber match on December 11 at the Spark Arena, Auckland, New Zealand.

“Joe is a proven performer, he’s a big-time fighter and everyone has Joe in their top half dozen,” Barry told Stuff. “Look at the results against Takam, Dimitrenko, Ruiz, Hughie Fury, Joshua, Whyte … there are no names like that for Junior. But the thing that Junior has is history. He knows Joe, he’s watched Joe, he’s beaten Joe, I don’t think he will fear Joe. The stars have lined up for something special.”

Joseph Parker vs. Junior Fa Pushed Back To December 12

The New Zealand grudge match between Joseph Parker and Junior Fa has been rescheduled to December 12 at Auckland's Spark Arena. (photo by photosport)

The fight was set down for Friday, December 11 - but the organizers wanted to avoid a conflict with All Blacks' Rugby Championship fixture.

It took several months for a deal to get finalized, with both sides haggling over money and even the brand of gloves.

Parker and Fa collided four times in the amateurs, with each boxer securing two wins.

The fight will be carried by DAZN in the United States, while New Zealand will distribute the fight on pay-per-view.

Parker, a former WBO heavyweight champion, last fought in February, when he scored a TKO win over Shawndell Winters in Texas.

Fa, with an unbeaten 19-0 record, picked up a unanimous decision win over Devin Vargas in November of last year.

Both are ranked in the WBO's top ten.

Parker views the contest was a must-win situation - as a loss to the untested Fa would seriously damage his career.

"There are lots of reasons to shift this once-in-a-generation event from Friday to Saturday night," said Parker's promoter Dave Higgins to Newshub.

"We originally decided against Saturday, as there was a strong possibility that the show would conflict with an All Blacks test match. Knowing how keen all Kiwis will be to see these two great heavyweights sort our their long-standing rivalry, as well as support the All Blacks, a clash between two massive sport events was a scenario we were keen to avoid.

"This is the biggest heavyweight contest in New Zealand history and we think it has the chance to break the current New Zealand pay-per-view record."

Joseph Parker Aims For a Knockout of Junior Fa, Not a Decision

Down a long private driveway set among the rolling hills of semi-rural South Auckland I have come to catch up with Joseph Parker to discuss his upcoming December 11th bout against Junior Fa. It’s a clear cloudless afternoon and the house with its limitless views feels like a sanctuary, far away from all the global craziness that has defined 2020 as one of the strangest years on record. (photo by photosport)

Surrounded by family, his partner Laine and three daughters, Elizabeth, Shiloh, and Michaela, this is Joseph Parker in his element and it seems like he is finally found that perfect balance between professional athlete and family man. He wears it well. His daughters cluck around him and fatherhood, despite all the disruptions that fighting overseas the past few years has caused, is clearly something that Joseph relishes.

If one word were to sum up the mood at the Parker residence it would be ‘serenity’ with ‘balance’ being a close contender. In the past it would be fair to say Parker was living two lives, lives that were not always compatible. On one hand there was the fresh faced fighter moving up the rankings, operating under the strict regime that entails being a professional athlete, but equally there was also the young man wanting to live his life, experience the fun and freedom of socializing and partying with his friends. It’s something that Joseph acknowledges as part of the maturing process, ‘yeah I was trying to be an athlete but I was also a young guy out enjoying time with my friends’ he then laughs ruefully recounting a story about a fight early in his career where he indulged in a burger eating contest post weigh-in.

2020 along with many other changes in the world has also seen a transformation in the way Joseph conducts his preparation, not only for his upcoming fight but also the way he lives and trains all year round. Gone are the boom/bust times of being in camp and fight night only to be followed by periods of no gym work at all.

Despite not being in camp since February, Parker has maintained a rigorous training schedule full of strength and conditioning work interspersed with various built-in recovery sessions. Weight-wise he looks to almost be in fighting shape with over 7 weeks out from his fight with Fa, it’s something he says has helped both with managing injuries while maintaining a better mental focus.

‘The biggest difference for me nowadays is that I’m finding staying in shape all year round much more enjoyable. I’m not getting those ongoing injuries that I used to have with the stop-start nature of being in the gym and then being totally out of the gym. Mentally I’m feeling very sharp and that’s where everything comes from. I feel a lot more confident and as soon as we announced the fight, I felt like bring it on.’

I mention to him that this reminds me of the Mike Tyson quote that the most dangerous fighter is the fighter who is happy in his work. It’s something Joseph readily agrees with, ‘I think that’s absolutely true, I’m very happy and with that my goal for this fight, and for future fights to come, is to take more risks.’

Having said that I then ask him how frustrating it must have been to watch Andy Ruiz’s first fight with Anthony Joshua and see how well Ruiz did moving forward and engaging Joshua in a fire fight. ‘The answer is yes it was very frustrating; I was saying to myself I beat the guy who then beat the guy that beat me! I learned a lesson watching that fight and I know moving forward I need to take more chances and go for it more.’

It’s an interesting point he makes, and as we discuss his career in its entirety to this point I put it to him that in his early years he was a lot more instinctual with his output, it was very much a case of ‘see punch, throw punch’ and if there is a knock on his recent fights it’s been a lack of letting those super fast hands go more often. He nods in agreement, ‘I definitely became too picky with my punches. I was at times too cautious; the reward comes when you take the risk. In some of my more recent fights I would get into position to throw a certain punch and then wait, thinking I might get a better opportunity later in the fight and then that opportunity would never come.’ He tells me this is something he plans on remedying in his next outing against Fa.

Being that Covid has made for a tough year for New Zealanders, as it has for most people around the world, and with a lack of high quality sport having starved a sports mad nation, Parker is keenly aware as to what this fight will mean to many New Zealanders. Already there is a hype and anticipation, as well as some ongoing needle between the two camps, that echoes much of the build-up to New Zealand’s last domestic super-fight, the David Tua and Shane Cameron clash, a fight which is still one of the highest watched pay-per-views per head of population anywhere in the world.

I ask Joseph if he remembers much about that fight, ‘I was watching it at my parent’s house, 2009 but then I actually ran over to Laine’s place before it started, to watch it with her dad. The atmosphere was electric we were all screaming and going crazy. The whole country stopped at that moment to watch two New Zealand fighters go at it.’

His clash with Fa hasn’t materialized without its problems, negotiations seem to have taken an eternity and according to Parker that has mostly come from the Fa camp and resulted in a career high payday for Parker’s unbeaten domestic rival.

‘The Joshua and Dillian Whyte fights which of course were both way bigger fights were much easier to negotiate than this one. Maybe they (Fa’s camp) thought, because of the past if they drag it on longer, I’ll stop training and get out of shape, which isn’t happening.’

As the heavy favorite this fight does present significant risk to Parker, it is the kind of fight he is expected to win and win well. Being that he’s given up a lot at the negotiating table in order to bring Junior Fa to the dance, failure of any variety isn’t really an option for Parker. For Fa there only seems upsides, losing to a former world champion, one that has beaten Andy Ruiz and gone the full 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua carries no shame and is a loss he can easily enough rebuild from with the right matchmaking.

Without predicting which round it happens in, Parker makes it clear that this is a fight he intends to win via knockout. ‘People think I’m the favorite, which I am due to what I’ve achieved and I do feel like people expect a lot from me so to be honest there is no point winning a decision, that’s not exciting. With heavyweight fights it’s knockouts that fans want. Part of my plan will be to go in there and let my hands go early and see how he reacts. He has a corner who can help him improve but can they really change him? I don’t think so but that’s what we’ll all see.’

I ask him what he rates about Fa, ‘he does have a decent reach and seems to use it fairly well, but has he fought any opponents at my level? No and I think if it gets later into the fight he will revert to type.’

With a win over Fa and allowing himself a small peek into the future Parker seems comfortable with being in the Matchroom stable and trusts that Eddie Hearn will have a potential list of credible candidates ready to go once December is done and dusted. If there is one wrinkle in these plans it’s that Tyson Fury, the heavyweight we both agree currently sits at the top of the heap, has made it clear that he will never fight Joseph, claiming a kinship that he doesn’t want to broach by facing each other in the ring. Parker is sanguine about it, ‘well you never know, he says we’ll never fight but as you know, money talks……………..’

Outside of an obvious super-fight with Tyson Fury there is one opponent that Joseph Parker wants more than any other and that is a rematch with Dillian Whyte. ‘That was a fight which I felt I had had my best start in for the past few years and then the headbutt happened and everything changed. I’d love to have a redo of that fight, but other than that I’ll face anyone.’

As we wind down our chat, I touch on the fact that he once said he’d like to be out of boxing by age 30. I wonder if having had the freak spider bite in 2019 and now with a global pandemic in 2020 delaying potential big fights might this push his potential retirement out a little? ‘Not really, it still sits around the 30ish mark, early 30’s I’d say, I’ll be comfortable with that.’

Looking around his peaceful lifestyle block, full of child’s laughter and Joseph on daddy duties it’s easy to see why you’d prefer the quiet life rather than wanting to put yourself through too many more grueling training camps or walk-through-fire type fights. But equally, with the changes he has made in lifestyle, with the care and conditioning he now approaches his work with it is clear that the finish line remains a way off yet. Indeed, in the next few years we may see the best of Joseph Parker, as he relaunches post Covid, Joseph Parker 2.0, and it all starts with Junior Fa on December 11th.

I expect nothing short of a dominating and explosive performance, and so does Joseph, humming along with the quiet confidence of the happy fighter.

Fa looked terrible in his last fight against Devin Vargas. It was fun to watch, actually. Fa was slow and clumsy, couldn't use his size advantage at all. He struggled with Vargas way too much. Crafty and experienced journeyman Vargas was even having fun from time to time in the ring. If Vargas only was tougher and more hard-hitting, Fa could suffer an upset defeat. Fa is no match for Parker. If Parker doesn't knocks Fa out, it'll be a shame. Parker gotta stop Fa in 8-10 rounds.

Junior Fa Warns Joseph Parker To Avoid Brawling From The Jump

The two boxers will finally collide in Auckland on December 12.

They met four times in the amateur ranks, with each boxer picking up two victories.

Parker, a former WBO heavyweight champion, has made it clear that he can't afford to suffer a loss in this bout.

At the same time, he's very motivated to end the fight by knockout. Parker wants to get a statement win, with a twelve round decision not being enough of a verdict to send a message.

While Fa is the undefeated boxer on the rise, he is taking a serious step up in class when facing Parker.

“I expect him to come out of the gates firing, pretty much straight away. I think if it turns fiery quickly, we’ll probably see how good and how fast Joseph Parker really is because I’m a lot bigger than all the guys that he has faced,” Fa said to Stuff.

“But I think both of us are a bit too smart to get involved in a brawl too early. But you never know ... we’ll see. Training is coming along really well. Things are building hard like they’re supposed to, so this is a time I’m focusing more on my recovering, making sure that I get everything right. We are always monitoring the game plan, but we are pretty much set on what we plan to do.

“This is a huge opportunity for me. Fighting Joseph Parker brings on a lot of rewards if I win. So I’m making sure that I’m training my hardest because an opportunity like this possibly won't present itself twice. I’m making sure I grab it with both hands.”

Junior Fa to undergo surgery, fight with Joseph Parker pushed to 2021

It just never ends with these two, does it?

The all-Kiwi heavyweight showdown between rivals Joseph Parker and Junior Fa will not, in fact, take place on December 12th. Fa’s manager, Mark Keddell, tells the NZ Herald that his charge “will have an operation on Tuesday” after a “routine blood test” revealed something he’s not willing to disclose

“Junior’s essentially had an injury and he’s going to have a routine operation,” Keddell said, and, while the news was “devastating”, he didn’t see it affecting his fighter’s chances.

The new date “is expected to be in either late February or early March.” Parker (27-2, 21 KO) manager Dave Higgins claims that “all tables and ticketing remain valid” and that he’s working with Air New Zealand “to help those flying to the fight who have been affected.”
