Aye, it’s unusual but it can happen. Eamonn Magee was a welter as an amateur, lost out to Eddie Fisher in the Ulsters. He then went down to LW, won the Ulsters and stayed LW in the pros.

My good friend stayed 10st from schoolboy to retiring at 40 odd.
I know several traveller boxers who haven’t lied about their age.

And how many do you know who did lie about their age?
I met him 30 odd years ago at the schoolboy finals in Derby (I think his brother was boxing) and he looked old for someone in their late teens.
He won a lot of junior fights by fighting lads younger than he was - you only have to look at his pro record to see how he was managed and how it panned out

As a senior I was doing light welter, went down to light as a teenager for the pro's, still did 9'7 for a fight as a 35 year old

I think someone said on here before that he still lives near enough the Pinewood Starr gym, and the brothers have taken their sons down there, I guess they will all be turning pro soon!

Just watched Stretch v Eubank and it shows a clip of Collins getting knocked out by Stretch in the build up. Aside from that I’m 46 and just a few pounds heavier than when I was boxing in my 20s

Same here, one kid in our junior school had hairs all over his body. His nickname was caveman.
Some kids do look older than others and a mustache can add to the effect ('taches were fashionable back then). But staying at welterweight all those years - I mean, who's the same weight at 22 as when they were when they were 17?
Im a Traveller and was very mature for my age, from 11 years old people use to always say "He's got to be 14" I was very Hairy and strong putting them kids over and stopping most I fought. I won the Schoolboys at 54kg at the age of 15 and then 10 Years later I won the British Title at 53.5kg.
I remember The Schoolboy finals 92 the last year it was held at Darby, when seeing the doctor had to get 2 of the boys to have a shave before they fought, both Travellers.

Does the way some traveller families live help with their children being more mature and physically stronger, for example maybe getting involved in more manual labour type work from a young age? Sorry that isn’t meant to be offensive but I knew one traveller lad from school and he was a strong as an ox, his family ran a building firm and he often would get stuck in lifting and dragging stuff about which probably explained why he was so much stronger than the rest of us.

I never got why we had to shave, I remember being told when I was like 16 when I saw the doctor that I needed to shave. At that time I barely needed to shave, I asked him why and he said you are more likely to cut. He gave me a bic, I had to shave dry, I reckon that I was more likely to cut after shaving like that!

I was just chatting to Spencer Guainiere who fought George in the NABC semi final .he said George was strong rather than brilliant technically he said he fought he nicked their second fight but George was the golden boy and you had to chin him to get the win.
Ive not seen that account before, there weren't any internet account of boxing when I was busy back in the 90's, only the boxing news, shame really as I haven't got many photos, that fight poster is on my wall though!

Your fight record I meant, if you posted a request in tbe record queries section of the forum I’m sure one of the mods would upload a pic of yourself if you wanted
