So which deserving contenders does that leave us with?

You should have taken my bet at the time, but you kept your mouth closed and ran from the boards.

I don't have that type of money now. I'm a big spender and a student and I'm not a good saver, but I'll take you on.

500 quid says Hatton doesn't fight Kostya this year. I say this year because eventually Warren is gonna have to take the diapers off Hatton.

This is my final offer and anyone else is welcome to take me on if don't call it a comeback gets "Hatton syndrome" and pussys out.

lirva33 puts his money where his mouth is!!!
Done.
Accepted!

We have a "verbal contract" and I have "secured" a bet for 500 quid. YOU ARE ALL WITNESSES!!!

TERMS:
1. Richard "The Hitman" Hatton MUST fight Kostantin Tszyu on/before 31st december 2005. If this fight has not taken place, "Don't call it a comeback" has LOST his bet and must pay up 500 quid.

2. The fight MUST take place. If it is announced, the bet is still running as Hatton could (and most likely WILL) pull out of the fight.

I, lirva33, agree to these terms.

The loser must pay the winner the full amount.

I accept paypal payments or you could post the cash when it's due.

Thank you... easiest 500 quid I ever made.
Oh dear. You do realise that a year is a long time Lirva, dont you? And with your history of betting...................

I really don't understand how there can be two such polar opposite arguments. Hatton is not the fraud, the pussy, the coward, or the other childish names that he's usually branded with. Nor has he shown a real, and believable desire to step in with the very best. He falls somewhere between the two points of view.

Hatton's career will not be over, regardless of whether or not he fights Tszyu, and regardless of how much some people would want it to be. He'll still be a draw in this country, despite the fact that some of the more hardcore boxing fans will probably turn their backs on him, should this one not happen (and if they haven't done so already). Earning a couple of hundred thousand pounds and fighting fringe top ten fighters, in a sold out arena, is a career. Perhaps not the most credible, but a career none-the-less.

With the negotiations for this fight progressing so far down the line, the timing of the original post seems somewhat ill-advised. There seems to be a distinct possibility that this one may go ahead. Granted, there is still a huge amount of time for it to fall through (and given Sports network's somewhat chequered past in that department, that is also a real possiblity), but at the time of writing this, it looks more likely to happen than it does to fall apart. So the question should really be; Where do the anti-Hatton brigade go from here? Are their careers over?

Not in boxing it isn't mate. That's why it always made me laugh when Audley Harrison talked of being world champ by 2005. Well guess what we're there already and he hasn't even faced a top 5 domestic opponent.

I think Hatton wants to fight Tzsyu.

I dont think Warren wants Hatton to fight Tzsyu.

But, if it happens, it will be one of the biggest British boxing nights in years.

Lets hope it happens.

If Warren pulls it of, he HAS to be given credit.

If it happens, in an explosive fight, Tszyu KO5 Hatton.

OK Fair enough maybee it should off read IF HATTON PULLS OUT HIS CARREER IS OVER.

And realisticly it will be , Ok to what level is debetable , Has far has hardcore boxing fans are concerned has far has the rest of the world are concerned , the man will be proven to be a well managed fraud , who ducked and dived anyone capable of hitting back , a boxing bully of the highest order, A man who has been managed well enough that he has made millions conning the boxing public and never having to test himself. bla ba bla everyone has heard it before.

Now I base this reasoning on the fact that, Hatton is bigger than his promoter , has much has Warren likes to think he's the star he ain't Ricky Hatton is.

Now Ricky wanted the fight , he's got it and if for whatever reason he allows Warren to weasle out of it , Then Ricky is to blame, simply because he has the clout to force the fight, without Hatton Warren is back to Calagzie another one who's carreer is all but finished.

Warren needs Hatton more than the other way round, so Hatton holds the ace card.

Failure to MAKE Warren go through with this fight would only conclude that Hatton has no ambition , Hatton is only interested in easy pocket filling fights, That from a fighters point of view Hatton is a lair , it would show that whilst fighters all over the world are jostling for just ONE CRACK AT A CHAMP HATTON HAS CHAMPS PUBLICLY CHALLENGING HIM

Now whilst I will concede that 15.000 thousand mancs would probably still show up to get pissed and sing blue moon , while he bashes lightweights and old men . Realisticly it would'nt be boxing it would be a circus .

On the other hand if he does take the fight , it will show him what level he is at, and if he was to lose which personally I think is inevitable, it would'nt do him ANY HARM , after all Zabs carreer is'nt finished there would still be big money fights for him , and who knows once Zoo has gone up in weight or retired he may well wina GENUINE TITLE, but wther he did or not he would win back some respect from around the world

He's made plenty of money now he should chase the belts.

What?! you mean chumps like Shamba Mitchell and Zab Judah both of whom wicky wouldn't fight even in his bedroom!.... what about the washed up 35+ mostly lightweights that wicky has fought for the best part of his career?.... Hatton is a fraud! what else can you call someone who has persistantly said that he wants to meet the best and would travel to do so but has as yet done neither!!!.....

Good point about FW needing Ricky more than Ricky needing FW.
I believe the fight will happen, it has to, and he cannot afford to step away from this, because if he does he is finished on the world scene.

There would be no need for the other big boys and the upcoming big boys to fight a dangerous opponent like Ricky, they could easily side step him and use the reason as `he’d just waste my time` and we’d believe them.

No, think about it, if Ricky wins then FW has got a bigger golden goose, and Ricky is grateful, after all FW delivered the big fight he wanted.

But if Ricky loses (and I think he will) then the tables are turned aren’t they.
Then Ricky needs FW, because if he can’t beat a 35yr old who’s been plagued by injuries then he obviously isn’t the superstar he’s been built up to be.

And we are back to the WBU, and the `Ricky road back`, you know the route which sees him fight old fighters who lost to world champions..3yrs previously, and European fighters with good records..at a lower weight.
And if FW really wanted he could make a quick buck and put him in with the other legit champs(they would be eager after seeing him exposed) who want the Hatton scalp, didn’t FW say he hasn’t got long left in the sport, then this could be his quick buck.

When do we start the whip around for `Lirva33`??

I`d call him unlucky...mis-managed, any would do...Listen Judah is more style than substance...ask the stiff breeze that consistantly knocks him down...and fornicating SharmbA mitchell...ive been saying for a while that Hatton would walk through him, ive actually heard Hatton on more than one occasion state that he would love to fight Mitchell but the fight never happend i guess that was Hattons fault...hold on a sec..that big fornicate off tidal wave...wasnt that Hatton`s fault...what about the holocoust...that was Hatton wasnt it???..Nagasaki,Hiroshima..Hatton aswell i guess.
If a fight doesnt Happen it riles me goodsyle that everyone gets on Hattons back...I`ll tell you one thing...I`d prefer to watch Hatton fight my own mother than watch another Junior Witter v some-fornicating-scmuck!!!

Judah would give Hatton a suvere beating and Mitchell would still be a 50-50 even after Tszyu beat him.

Hmm, and this is based on what? Judah looks good beating up on stiffs like Jaime Rangel, but against good operators like Corley, he gets extended the distance. Although Witter fought negatively, he was able to last the distance despite being inexperienced and underprepared. Tszyu went through him with ease.

Judah strikes me as a typical on top fighter, once he starts getting tagged hard, it all starts to unravel.

I think that Hatton would beat Mitchell and stop him, Mitchell wouldn't have time to be pulling his fancy dan moves as Hatton would be all over him like a rash.

Hatton is underrated by too many people. He's not a crude brawler, and he has very good footwork and handspeed for a pressure fighter.

Win or lose against Tszyu, Hatton is still a very good fighter.

Bottom line with Hatton is we just don't know how good he really is, because he's never faced a world class opponent who doesn't have an obvious weakness.

The lad can dish it out all night, that's been confirmed time and time again. Can he take it from the worlds best? NOBODY knows.

Yes, this is also true. I am going with my instincts when I say I believe he would be competitive with Judah and Mitchell.

some of you guys sell Judah way too short.... yes he got stopped by Tzsyu, but it wasnt easy for Kosta, the first round was all Zab as was the second until Kosta landed a picture perfect shot to end it... i dare say that shot would have knocked out most other LW's. No disgrace.

And he got dropped against a naturally bigger man, Spinks, and didnt fall apart he got back up and nearly knocked Spinks out in the last round....

yes the hype about Zab got a bit carried away by the amercian press pre Tzsyu but to suggest he is chinny and an on top fighter is a bit OTT

I'd probably now make Hatton favourite to outpoint Mitchell, who really is looking like a 50 fight+ veteran now. Whether Hatton could cope with the other half dozen guys out there who don't have obvious weaknesses is another matter entirely.

That's why I'd prefer to see Hatton fight Cotto than Tszyu. At least the Puerto Rican, for all his undoubted quality, has shown on more than one occasion that he likes to take his foot off the gas during long fights.

Posted: 13 Jan 2005, 10:57

(BTW I'm not highlighting Cotto easing off as an obvious weakness, just something that Hatton could possibly exploit).

Hatton has looked good against limited and faded opposition!.... if Mitchell and Zab would be such easy touches why has Ricky avoided both those fighters?..... why does he act as if Witter doesn't exist?.... Hatton claims to want to be recognised as the best in the world yet hasn't even proved himself the best in Britain yet!!.... the way he has avoided Witter is disgusting.... the mans a fraud!..... harsh words but the truth!... 8)

I don't know James but do u think he would survive that uppercut that Judah landed on Tszyu in the first round and who has he fought that has even close to the speed and power of Judah.
Judah is an awesome boxer and if he didn't fornicate around in the middle rounds would be 147 champ right now.

OK maybe i was wrong in saying Mitchell 50-50 but i don't think that Ricky would have it all his own way if Mitchell jabbed and moved it would be hard for him.
I think that Hatton is a good fighter but he has a bad defence and average power and against the top fighters it will surely be exposed.

What advantage does Ricky have over Judah.

Hand Speed Judah
Power Judah
footspeed Judah
chin ? maybe Hatton
Experience Judah
boxing skills Judah
Im not selling Hatton short but being realistic.

I think Ricky has better handspeed and movement that Tszyu, on every other front though Tszyu has the edge.

I agree about the intangibles with Hatton, but he took some huge uppercuts from Phillips and coped well, admittedly Phillips was past it, but he still had his punch.

I also think that Hatton's style makes it hard for guys to get leverage, because he is forcing them backward, of course, someone timing him with a cracking right as he comes in has a chance of really hurting him, but at his best Ricky doesn't come in in a straight line.

I also think Hatton has improved considerably since the magee fight, I think that was the fight which taught him to treat his opponents with a bit more respect. Magee was a fringe world class fighter too, so it's no disgrace.

fornicate it, I don't know, it's all guesswork, just want to see it happen.
