I think Gary just lacked a little something for the top level, but he would of been a tough job for any champion as he had a good chin and could punch.
After the Lewis loss and subsequent eye issues Gary was out the ring for 3 years then had 2 fights in America. What was the reason he didn't stay on there?

I think he said in later interviews he felt very panicked and out of sorts against journeyman Martin Foster in his final fight. He pulled it out of the bag with a 3rd round win but knew he didn't have it anymore. Went briefly into arm wrestling and had an appearance of Gladiators I recall.

That's right, I remember there was one point of Gladiators where he absolutely hammered them.

Didn’t he give rugby league a bash too? I think he had a trial at the London Broncos.

I remember him starting up a pawn shop too, ended up doing hospital security in St Heliers hospital, apparently he always had time for a smile and a joke with everyone, nice guy

Estate agents across the UK have removed the description 'master bedroom' from their blurbs. Changed it to
'principle' or 'primary' bedroom. What a fookin world we've got to look forward to.

Loved Mason. Never heard him bad mouth an opponent and was always respectful to Lawless and Bruno despite
being down the pecking order in that stable. Full of life and was the original ducker'n'diver in life. Intelligent fella as well and came across well in interviews, including prime time chat shows.

Hard to fathom now, but he came into the Lewis fight as favourite which had the savvy punters beating the doors of the
high street bookies down. Ok, Lennox was only a dozen+ fights (Euro champ notwithstanding) in but the public still hadn't taken to him, and along with Mason being a popular TV fighter with a sluggers mentality the populist money was down on him, despite him going in with the huge retina issue. It was rumoured Duff spun*ed a decent wedge on the fight.

Gary was the first ever boxing pundit on Sky, and if i remember rightly was pretty decent at predicting the fight
outcome early on in a fight. Pity about him being flirted from that role but i read somewhere the swearing wasn't
the real reason. Being a rugby league fan i was keen to see how he got on when he started playing for London,
but that was short lived. I think Mason's words were "fVck that for a game of soldiers"

Looking at his record, he made his debut on the same night Michael Watson did at the Royal Albert Hall.

I can remember watching when he swore on the live Sky boxing show where he was the regular pundit. I think the blonde bloke (was it Steve Norman?) was hosting the show and the camera panned to Mason, who can't have been aware they were on air, he looked surprised and raised his hand to his throat area and said something like “F*ck! Where's my tie?”. Never seen him appear on the show again after that.
