Re: Canelo Alvarez fight could be in jeopardy due to purse demands

Pfft, paying Jesse Vargas millions per fight was obviously a brilliant move in longevity and marketing
Dont know if GBP are in a position of trustworthiness confirm that. I dont know if its true or not but i would of thought every 300+million dollar contract would be detailed enough to have stipulations on opponents.... If not Canelo could fight me once a month for a year and make 365 million... seems implausible to me.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Sep 2020, 18:05 DAZN didn’t include stipulations in the contract with Canelo that provided them authority to refuse to sanction his opponents.
This was confirmed by GBP and not refuted by DAZN.
DAZN guaranteed Canelo a minimum of $365m over eleven bouts.
And after three fights, with DAZN running out of cash, to the point they’re selling branches of their company, as well as plans for a floatation to raise more than $1 billion in order to continue trading...
It now seems DAZN want to renege on their deal with Canelo.
DAZN made promises to Canelo and organisers for other sports that they can’t keep.
What’s next? Are DAZN going to break the terms of their $1 billion deal with Matchroom?
The situation is rather worrying.
I think we shouldn’t get distracted by the mere mention of Canelo’s name, because the real issue here is DAZN running out of cash, coupled with their inability to fulfil their contractual obligations.
I don’t know what to say. I guess it’s up to you whether you believe Oscar De La Hoya or not.gregregegg wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 04:47Dont know if GBP are in a position of trustworthiness confirm that. As i said i dont know the details, i dont know if those stipulations would be "board aproved", "Boss aproved" or purely of numerical ranking threshholds, but i think there would be something..
I will never believe a promoter just because they said something. Oscar said they dont have to approve, Eddie said they do. As for witch of them i trust more.... I like them, But they are slimey salesment right up there at Dana white levle, Very capable of lying.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 05:21I don’t know what to say. What we do know is that the media regularly speaks to the head honchos at DAZN and GBP’s claims haven’t been refuted.
According to the Mike Coppinger tweet above, DAZN are apparently disappointed about Golden Boy failing to fulfil “its contractual obligation to deliver one premier Canelo Alvarez event per year”.
This wouldn’t have happened if DAZN had the legal right to refuse to sanction his bouts.
And to be fair, DAZN are wrong, because I feel Canelo’s bouts against Jacobs and Kovalev were both “premier” in nature.
The only fight bigger than those would be a third bout against GGG, but the Kazakh, by his own admission doesn’t want to face Canelo straight away. Instead he wants to fight Kamil Szeremeta.
And let’s not forget that GGG also has a multi-fight $100m deal with DAZN.
If Jacobs and Kovalev weren't good enough for DAZN, what's Canelo supposed to do? Face GGG once per year until his DAZN contract is complete?
I feel that GBP will make another attempt to orchestrate bouts between Canelo and Smith or Saunders, but if both Brits reject the fight (assuming legitimate offers were made), then surely DAZN doesn’t have any legal right to force the Mexican to take a 50% pay cut.
Mike Coppinger stated the following:gregregegg wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 05:36Was there ever a claim that Jacobs and Kov wernt good enough? IF so that is ridiculous they were clearly great opponents. Iv only heard this "DAZN can refuse" narrative in relation to the rumoured Avni Yildirim fight. And i Agree with refusing to pay canelo 35 million for that fight (if its in there contract that they can)...

• DAZN feel “that Golden Boy hasn’t lived up to its contractual obligation to deliver one premier Canelo Alvarez event per year”
• “Yildirim was never presented to DAZN as an option. WBC nonsense”
Canelo’s last three bouts against Fielding, Jacobs and Kovalev were all covered by DAZN. And in my humble opinion, I suspect fight fans only disliked one of those opponents.
And like I said before, if Jacobs and Kovalev weren't good enough for DAZN, what's Canelo supposed to do? Face GGG once per year until his DAZN contract is complete?
Out of interest though, do you consider Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders as “premier” level opponents?gregregegg wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 06:04Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 05:54Mike Coppinger stated the following:gregregegg wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 05:36Was there ever a claim that Jacobs and Kov wernt good enough? Yea look interesting one. I dont think DAZN is claiming jacobs or kov isnt Good enough. they might but i doubt that. i think there more talking about the fact that its going to of been more than a year between canelo fights. however how they have worded it id still give canelo till NYE to deliver a premier opponent for the year.
Yea I would defiantly consider them premium and they should count. It is tricky though cause 90% of there following is in a country without dazn but both can be sold as live fights without a known outcome so should atoll do good numbers in the states. geeze I hope they are allowable opponents, they are 2 of the top 5 super middles in the world....Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 06:12Out of interest though, do you consider Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders as “premier” level opponents?gregregegg wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 06:04Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 05:54

They’re both decent fighters, but I personally don’t feel as though they’re global names.
Apart from a small minority of hardcore boxing aficionados, do people outside the UK even know who these guys are?
I guess the point I’m alluding to is... what determines whether a fighter is deemed as being a “premier” Canelo opponent or not? I don’t really know what that term means. And it seems very subjective in nature.
Neither fighter brings money to the table, neither are box office. That's what really counts.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 06:12Out of interest though, do you consider Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders as “premier” level opponents?gregregegg wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 06:04Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 05:54

Neither was Daniel Jacob's, he just bought a belt with him.. But he was classed as a high-rated middleweight.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑03 Sep 2020, 08:08Neither fighter brings money to the table, neither are box office.
