This might seem off-topic, but the following development is likely to determine DAZN's ability to meet their contractual obligations, such as Canelo's eleven-fight $365m deal, as well as resuming US-based boxing events:

"DAZN Group in $1bn funding push"

DAZN Group, the streaming service backed by billionaire Len Blavatnik, is looking to raise up to $1 billion.

It follows a period of heavy spending on sports rights.

Bloomberg reported DAZN to be in the early stages of an initial public offering, quoting “people with knowledge of the matter”. Other options are said to include a so-called special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, and the sale of its Japanese business.

A SPAC is company with no commercial operations that is formed with the sole purpose of raising capital through an initial public offering.

A previous plan to raise $500 million through an IPO was dropped at the start of the coronavirus.

DAZN's financial commitments to boxing alone, as per the terms of their deals with AJ, GGG, Canelo & Matchroom, must be approaching the $2 billion mark (at least).

And DAZN would have surely lost most of their customer base during the pandemic, with very few people resubscribing.

I'm not sure how DAZN can survive if their owners refrain from funding the business with their own cash or if their attempts to raise $1 billion fail.

Who is going to invest in a loss-making business like DAZN, especially considering the economic climate and the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic may resurface during Winter to scupper some sporting events?

Their end game has always been to win streaming rights to nfl sunday ticket. That contract comes up next year (i think)

Boxing was meant to get out their name, build some subscribers, and get some revenue flowing. But they thought there were 3.5mm boxing fans that would subscribe which is ludicrous and so stupid they deserve to fail

An interesting quote from Oscar De Lay Hoya that kind of scuppers theories about DAZN's ability to refuse to sanction the type of opposition Canelo faces:

"Canelo Alvarez's track record of fighting the best continues"

"When we signed the deal with DAZN, they were a little worried about what type of opponents Canelo would fight because it's not stated in the contract... We can pick anyone we want to fight, but Canelo is fighting for legacy." De La Hoya said.

So if Canelo wants to fight somebody and DAZN refuses to either pay him his $33½m guaranteed purse minimum or they refuse to sanction his opponent, then surely they must be in breach of contract?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Canelo never intended to face Yildrim, but he (or GBP) tried to use it to threaten DAZN, to compel them to pay the purse stipulated in his contract.

And I suspect DAZN will back down and meet his demands, with Canelo agreeing to meet halfway, by facing Saunders or Smith next.

The platform of streaming is great, especially where there are no adds. Netflix’s is great because of this, unfortunately the content is the issue. Movies on Netflix suck. Tv shows are generally great but once you’ve tapped that source there’s noT much value. Dazn was a great idea, unfortunately it wasn’t available worldwide and they spent too much on fighters (Jesse Vargas).

Whatever posturing from Canelo/golden boy... it won’t matter if Dazn don’t have the money. Canelo won’t get that money unless he has insurance and Dazn will end. Ironic if the person they enlisted to Birth Dazn, will be (potentially) the person who would end it...prematurely.

I watched that espn+ streaming....and man there are loads of adds....like i get it, you have lots of great stuff to watch on espn+ if you subscribe

What a shame. DAZN subscribers getting ripped.
