Ritchie Woodhall started off really wooden, not helped by being paired with the awful Jim Neilly, but has turned out to be really good, always a knowledgable bloke but in recent years has really learnt to transmit it.

The likes of Watt, Darke, Rosenthal and McCrory are old hands and top quality.

McCrory as a pro had been everyone, a prospect, a contender, a champion, an opponent and a journeyman, he really could understand what different fighters were trying to do

McKenzie is bloody awful.

I’ll always have a soft spot for McKenzie after co-calling the Calzaghe-Lacy fight which I‘ve probably rewatched about 300 times. Don’t really remember how good he was outside of that one, but he added to the drama for me that night.

Punditry is definitely an art and I think Sky have had a go at a specific formula - you've got to look sharp as well as be articulate. For popularity there is no boxer more popular than Ricky Hatton - but I don't think he'll ever make a pundit.

I think Sky could afford a cull - there are two many part timers - not saying these but Smith (Paul), Crolla, Moore don't seem to be on a frequently and i think the continually roll out of a new face doesn't work. I prefered it in the days when there were 2 / 3 pundits top covering everything. I think it got a bit too cosy when it seemed to be just Johnny Nelson at one stage - but he ticks the boxes and I quite like him as a pundit.

If Sky could bring back Watt for PPV's, I'd be happy - make them feel special.

I'd love - Nelson and Jones for non PPVs and perhaps Watt, McCrory and McGuigan (what's his relationship with Matchroom like) for PPV's.

Even though the young guard are quite articulate, I don't know they feel a bit too young for me still.

As for Soccer Saturday - I think big mistake getting rid of Le Tissier and I'm far from convinced about Micah Richards - again just think he is too fresh from playing. I know they've got to start somewhere, even Alan Hansen was only 2-3 years retired when he first started - but he was pioneering, Richards' doesn't give me that impression. I feel it is only really now that the likes of Shearer are at the peak of the punditry.

Micah Richards is EXTREMELY annoying. You can tell Roy Keane just wants to knock him clean out.

Don’t watch much football but any time I’ve seen Richards in the studio he just seems to be doing some exaggerated laugh.

I think in terms of diversity, Andy Gray and Richard Keys could do a good job.Andy could throw a good right swing when he got his temper up and Keys can tell a good joke.

Why do they want exclusive deals anyway, is it just easier to work with 1 promoter and pound in their 'brand'? It would be great if they could show the best of all worlds, maybe it would inspire each of them to up their game for a spot that might go to someone else

All the broadcasters will be wanting to pay less unless it’s a sport valuable to them. Top Rank paid out less than £70k for one of those bubble shows.

You can almost predict with complete certainty now that any thread that contains even the mildest criticism of Eddie/matchroom/sky sports, will be met with James with his pom-poms out defending them akin to a teenage girl defending their favourite pop idol.


He'll then mention something about Frank W*rren, like it's not possible to be critical of how both guys/teams do things.

If DAZN had been a huge success it might well have led to Eddie jumping ship. Now his relationship with sky will continue to be important but will leave sky in a stronger negotiating position.

It will be very interesting couple of months / years. We were expecting DAZN UK in May - now its seems to be will DAZN even survive. And being brutally honest from what I have read, I'm not sure there would be a Matchroom US if it wasn't for DAZN US - not seeing Sky being the principle global broadcasters for some of these US shows we have had.
