Well, that's a subjective opinion, i reckon Kovalev was possibly saved by the bell, Yarde had him absolutely rocking.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑23 Nov 2020, 18:36Respectable performance, sure, I wouldn’t contradict that (nor did I)
Come close to beating Kovalev, he didn’t

Re: Anthony Yarde vs. Lyndon Arthur - 5 December 2020
Yarde did come close to ending the fight in the 8th. Kovalev was in serious trouble. Of course, that was just one part of the fight that otherwise Kovalev proved too good for Yarde. Sergei also ended matters very emphatically.
In fact if you watch that 8th round and continue to watch just after the bells sounds, the look on the face of Kovalev's manager/promoter.....sheer relief !

I think we saw there that Yarde could possibly have won the fight if he'd prepared better. An inexperienced Tunde, who seemed pleased with the overall experience, was not the right trainer for the job. Tunde was saying afterward that he was surprised Yarde got tired because he's never seen Yarde get tired. Terrible stuff.THEBUTCH wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 10:12 Yarde did come close to ending the fight in the 8th. Kovalev was in serious trouble. Its possible yarde was tense, and got tired, or under the pressure of fighting a top flight opponent.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 11:17I think we saw there that Yarde could possibly have won the fight if he'd prepared better. Remarkable to think Yarde couldnt finish him off, and former welterweight Carmelo did, and emphatically.

Well Tunde did brilliantly to get an untested inexperienced Yarde to a place where he was just a few good punches from finishing off a P4P monster like Kov - in one of the most intimidating places you can go, that’s great going no matter how you cut it.
Yes his outside ego makes him very easy to dislike, and yes both their inexperience counted at the end, but that was a hell of an effort

Staying with Tunde and being a nearly man and getting KO'd or moving to a top experienced trainer and winning?MightyWarrior wrote: ↑24 Nov 2020, 12:49 Well Tunde did brilliantly to get an untested inexperienced Yarde to a place where he was just a few good punches from finishing off a P4P monster like Kov - in one of the most intimidating places you can go, that’s great going no matter how you cut it.

John David Jackson was available and I always thought Yarde should have sought him out for the fight. He was with Kovalev for years and had an acrimonious break up of their relationship. He himself had a very good career operating at world level and has good experience training. He should have been brought in and been the chief second. Tunde could still have been there. I think Yarde wins the fight if he has a training camp like that rather than all this lions in the camp stuff with Tunde.
Re: Anthony Yarde vs. Lyndon Arthur - 5 December 2020
I go along with MightyWarrior's take on matters.
It was an excellent effort from Tunde to get Yarde to the point of challenging Kovalev, especially with Yarde's serious lack of experience in world class i.e. none !
And it was a terrific effort from Yarde on the night. He was well beaten in the end, but Anthony deserves a lot of credit.
Surely the whole experience will put him in a great position to beat Arthur next month, who is a lot less of a daunting proposition than taking on Kovalez.

I expect Yarde to win but I will laugh my ass off if Arthur pulls it off. The look on fish eyes face this weekend after Dubois lost was priceless - he sort of looks like he's going to explode.
Would love to see that again!

The Hutchinson title fight is off the show. Hutchinson has a cold.
A good main event with a shite undercard.

Can’t believe the Board granted him a title shot at 12st in the first place.maverick23 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 13:11 The Hutchinson title fight is off the show. Hutchinson has a cold.

Really looking forward to this fight, probably fight of the weekend for me but i keep getting a nagging feeling thats it gonna be a stinker, both guys are a bit too patient at times but def have quality, Arthur has decent power but boxes a bit more conservatively than he did when coming through, he never unloaded on Spelman and looked like he was trying to force a KO, Yarde was passive against Spelman as well but shifted into gear just before the stoppage
I always fancy Yarde to get a KO whenever he fights especially when he looks for it, he might try to box Arthur but i think he might come from behind to get Arthur out of there in the later rounds

Yarde is already 29 years old..
Both same age..

I just can't see Arthur standing up to the bombs Yarde will be throwing. There's very little on Athur's record to suggest he can cope with Yarde's power and ability.
Arthur has to nullify Yarde and if he does manage that, it could be a damp affair, but I don't see him doing that for more than 8 rounds or so.

Yarde's such a likeable chap, i wish he wouldn't do all that silly lions in the camp nonsense.
I'm not a big fan of Rawling he's terribly dull, they need somebody capable of injecting a bit of life into proceedings.

Of all the British fighters it’s probably most obvious with Yarde that he’s on a long term performance enhancing drugs program. How much would people be willing to bet on here that he isn’t on some potent cocktail chasing his goal to be a world class light-heavyweight?

The rest of this card looks absolutely awful, can't see me watching until the mismatched main event.

Can se why some will call it miss-match, but both are up for it.. Rest of card is poor..

He's absolutely right. It's the worst undercard I've seen on a Wazza show and the main event is a mismatch. The only question is when does Yarde stop him but I'm sure we'll have to sit through Yarde pissing about and posing for a few rounds as he usually does with over-matched opposition.mickey1975 wrote: ↑05 Dec 2020, 11:56Ricky, why do you come on here? Re: Anthony Yarde vs. Lyndon Arthur - 5 December 2020
It's a shocking card. Firstly, there only 4 fights on the undercard, 1 of which is a debutant and the another in for his 2nd fight? The UFC put in 12 fight cards every week, is there a lack of fighters interested in televised slots on a Saturday night on BT? Or just crap promotional work.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Dec 2020, 12:30It is a decent fight on paper..mickey1975 wrote: ↑05 Dec 2020, 11:56Ricky, why do you come on here? It’s a decent trade fight. As for the 5 fights we do have, are they competitive?
The bookies don't think so... implied odds for the fights are as follows;
Yarde 86%
Bourke 78%
Dennis McCann 99%
Ali 99%
Itauma 97%
