Didn’t Sean O’Grady give up his wba title to start with some nonsense made up title his dad/manager/promoter created?

Boxers who give up their belts invariably do so because the promoter who owns them instructs them to. There are exceptions but not many. Professional boxing isn't a sport, it's a money making exercise and any event involving Josh Warrington at the moment is going to lose a promoter money. The best thing for Warrington's owners is for him to get 'injured' and knock this Lara job on the head and wait Covid-19 restrictions out.

Yeah the WAA title, lost it straight away to Andy Ganigan.

Fingers crossed Warrington will benefit from this but so far his relationship with Matchroom has born no fruit!

Honeyghan was in the ridiculous position of having to lose a belt because if he had chosen to fight Volbrecht he would have been stripped by the WBC for fighting a South African.
Michael Spinks relinquished his IBF heavyweight belt as he chose not to fight mandatory Tony Tucker.
Antonio Tarver (WBC) and Glen Johnson (IBF) effectively gave up their titles to fight each other rather than their mandatories (Paul Briggs (Tarver) and Rico Hoye (Johnson.)
Marco Antonio Barrera gave up his WBC super-featherweight belt. I can't recall why. Something to do with WBC dictates I believe.

A ton of fighters gave up their belts when moving up in weight (Robinson, Charles, Griffith, Duran, Chavez, Hearns, Spinks...). Alexis Arguello relinquished world titles at featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight prior to his classic encounter with Aaron Pryor in Miami in 1982.

Larry Holmes dumped his belt and fought Frazier.

I'm sure that someone gave up their title to fight Naz, I reckon Vasquez

Pat O'Grady ruined a great talent. His son gave Jim Watt a magnificent fight in Glasgow for the WBC lightweight title and proved it was no fluke when he licked Kronk's first world champion, the unbeaten Hilmer Kenty, for the WBA title a few months later in Atlantic City. Then Pat refused to let his son sign for a mandatory defence against Trinidad's Claude Noel - a man Sean would have destroyed - in a power game with promoter Bob Arum and cost his son the belt when the WBA promptly stripped him. Pat then came up with his laughable WAA title but nobody was laughing (apart from Arum) when the huge-punching Andy Ganigan destroyed Sean in two rounds and finished him as a top-flight fighter.

That South African kid, Bungu - he moved up in weight to fight Naz.

Thomas Hearns gave up his WBC light heavyweight belt without defending it to go back down to middleweight to fight for their WBC title against Juan Roldan.

Evander Holyfield gave up all his cruiserweight belts to go up to heavyweight.

Any champion who went up in weight would have probably had to give up the belt at their former weight...

I remember Bungu giving up his title to fight Naz after making a thousand and one defences and I thought he stood a chance... silly me as the fight turned out.

I was right, Vasquez had multiple WBA defences before dumping it to fight Hamed for decent money

Tyson fury before he got stripped

Paul Butler went up to Bantamweight and won the IBF off Stuart Hall, and gave it up to come back down in weight, before going back up in weight.....
