If De La Hoya makes a return, it's gotta be against someone who's been retired like Kostya Tszyu, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez, Jermain Taylor, Jose Luis Castillo, Zab Judah, Cory Spinks, Carlos Baldomir, Antonio Margarito, Kelly Pavlik, Winky Wright, etc.

It is a given actually. It's a given that he wouldn't win a single round against any of those guys.

He'd have to be crazy to take on a challenge that steep. It would sell due to morbid curiosity, but no he'd have no chance at all of winning those fights.

I can see why he is doing it - for an, in my opinion, all time great fighter his problems with addiction, his "bizarre dress sense" has kind of diminished his in ring ability and achievements. He seems to be primarily remembered as "Oscar De La Hoya the guy who couldn't cope with retirement" as opposed to the once great boxer.

There have been all of these old guys coming back or considering making a comeback and of the clips I've seen, he does look arguably better than any of them (e.g. Tyson, Nigel Benn).... I hope he can get rid of the stuff in the basement and put on a decent performance and then enjoy retirement more on his terms. Maybe with a win or a close fought defeat (ala Ricky Hatton).

From what I have read he is 168 now and is looking to be fighting at 160 - Noticed that the 160 Mexican champion has a journeyman resume - I've never heard of him, but is someone in his mid 30s - might be a decent fight if DLH wants to try and end with a title (assume he is eligible to fight for the mexican title) unless he does want a side show and fight a retired fighter..... think it would be more winnable than a 42 Mayweather, who could probably still beat 80% of the fighters from 147-160 comfortably.

Just for the record, Mayweather turned 44 in February.

Kostya Tszyu had bleeding on his brain during his last fight. Carlos Baldomir is in jail. Zab Judah also suffered brain trauma during his last bout. Cory Spinks is someone that youd pay to not see fight, if I had a choice paying 20$ to someone or watching Cory in the ring for 12 rounds id pick losing the 20$.

Honestly, if you give oscar a 20 week camp.. Oscar vs mcgregor would be a fornicating fight... Both would make squillions.

I am middleweight Bryant "The Spartan" Pappas, 20-2-1, (20 kos), never stopped. - boxrec didn't count my last fight, a tko victory in 7 of an 8 rounder last October. Fight Fax has it listed, however. I have not had the toughest competition to say the least - but I did all this and hold down a full-time job as a Police Officer, and did develop cancer, and underwent 5 months of chemo and surgery after my service at Ground Zero after the Terror Attacks on 9-11-01. That is why I donate my purses to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC - I was diagnosed with incurable B Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma when I was 28 years old. I was told I had about 10 years to live in front of my parents and the young beautiful wife I had married months before. That was 20 years ago. I did 5 months of chemo in 2004 and turned from 3 months after chemo.

I'm a self admitted little guy in the sport that loves the sport that sometimes doesn't love me back. I had a guy you all know who is stepping up and about to fight a huge fight, work a fighter's corner I faced and I believe snuck in worn bag gloves to my opponent, resulting in my suffering horrific facial injuries, I went after the corrupt NYSAC and they had to change their gloving policy and fired the Director Of Boxing and a few others.

I trained at Gleason's Gym for years and learned a lot, even managing fighters now, all the while wondering when, if ever will I get a chance to provide for my family and a chance to really do something big in the sport, as well as Memorial Sloan Kettering, albeit as a huge underdog.

I would relish this opportunity and feel I have paid my dues to the sport and to my country and community. I realize that Jake Paul is a huge social media guy, and that's great, and these UFC guys are as well, but I am from the last of Generation X where we don't do our talking through a computer screen.

I know my boxrec people can probably make this happen for me !

I doubt that. Dana isn't just going to allow one of his guys to fight on triller and he and Dana don't get along. Maybe a former one.

The article doesn't say "current" UFC fighter.
It will obviously be someone Dana no longer controls.

Even then it's hard to think of a name to help sell a ppv and fill a football stadium. It's also the week before McGregor and that won't help the buyrate.
